I like how this Javert actually reacts to Valjean in the courtroom scene. In a lot of productions, Javert just stands there impassively for most or all of the scene, but if he's so convinced that he's already got Valjean, it should be a major shock to learn that *his boss* is the guy he's been chasing for ten years.
come to me (fantine's death) will always remain one of the most powerful moments on stage in my opinion. its so beautiful and so moving. i cry everytime i hear it and see it
I have to pause. brb I gotta see the doc to make sure my right ear's not deaf. But thank you for the vid else I won't have the privilege of seeing LM on broadway.
I think in the book, this was Champmathieu's first arrest (so he wouldn't have a brand), but then another prisoner misidentified the poor guy as Valjean. Maybe Javert (2:52) means, "Since I recognize this guy, my testimony should make him confess, but if not, we can check for the brand." But the brand would be *the* irrefutable evidence, so I don't know why the police haven't checked for it already. I think you're right--I think the musical writers just messed up.
@TuggersTeazer it is never really given a name in the book but it is very strongly hinted that Fantine dies of consumption. In the book she attacks the man because he put snow down her only dress. She never recovers from that
FYI I did like the come to me version with Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. Although some of the lyrics were changed, but I had to keep an open mind and say this is the movie not the stage musical. :-)
I think a lot of it just doesn't translate well onto the stage (and also time contraints). Also the show began as a French concept album, IIRC, so it was further limited by not having any visual medium in the beginning.
I've always wondered why they arested Champmathieu and were going to sentence him without to even look if he had the numbers 24601 branded in his skin... It made much more sense in the book.
Last I heard Sierra B. was Fantine on the WE but she just recently transferred to B'way for POTO so I have no idea who's the current Fantine. What cast is it, may I ask? Is it touring? West End?
I think it's more of entertaining the audience. But honestly, I'd rather if they made it less dramatic and more... real (like the book). But I thought Valjean died of old age...

"tell cosette I love her, and i'll see her when I wake" is always so heartbreaking to me
I love "Come to Me." So heartbreaking.
love J. Mark McVey. great singer
10 years on the run and no ones caught him? wow! impressive! xx

talk about irony, this Javert's voice reminds me of Dudley Do-Right!

Look out! It's a runaway cart!

Javert's the only one who really gives a shit.
that 24601..was sooo sad :(
@blueberryicedtea in the novel Champanthieu is a released convict and actually does have the brand

oh.. yup.. left ear drum is now popped. -_-
Haha And this is a 11 years old production.. Talking about irony on the 10 years run lol
her death is warm and fuzzy compared to the book.
hallucinating
What's the final note in "Who Am I?" The sheet I have has it as a top B flat, but Valjean only goes up to top A. ???
Have you seen it? Did you like it?
Last I heard Sierra B. was Fantine on the WE but she just recently transferred to B'way for POTO so I have no idea who's the current Fantine. What cast is it, may I ask? Is it touring? West End?
Is she hallucinating that she sees cosette in come to me? Or just singing to her from afar?
I've always been confused... what exactly does Fantine die from? I never read the book, so I don't know....
tuberculosis
sorry im 8 years late
Tuberculosis it’s a lung disease
@whistlingninja11 in the book, Javert suspects that the mayor is Valjean
@xxkewldudexx It may be a different key, that happens alot
@kkamink Mine too!
sorry i that i put the same comment on there twice
@missfox76
He's supposed to be in disguise.

But I thought Valjean died of old age...
