Excellent interview. Great guitar player. But I've always felt that I were in a situation with Richie, and he tried to mess with me, I would have a go with him and it would be quite a tussle. He intimidated a lot of people with his attitude.

Grew up listening to Ritchie Blackmore, today I am 51 years old and he still remains my all time fav guitarist. I loved every minute of this interview, he is what he is.....honest, hard working and always followed his instinct.
Gillan amazed me. How hard they worked in those days, thrashing his voice w/ everything he had every other night. Its toll was apparent in most, but gillan, it never seemed to affect him. Definitely among the most indestructible rock vocalists ever.

Good to see that Ritchie values his early classical music lessons. He says they only lasted a year but gave him a good basics in music and obviously influenced his style for the rest of his life. After the lessons he says he practised 8 hours a day because he loved the guitar so much. That's the sort of committent you need to get good. And if you've got a sprinkle of star dust you become great.

Ritchie is an exceptionally talented musician with a music courrier spanning several decades. His dedication to the instrument is phenomenal and his ability to switch between rock ,classical and folk is rare . Ritchie has been an inspiration to millions of guitarists here in India as well ,who along with his virtuoso playing style also try to emulate his grumpy ,eccentric and irratic behavior. Ritchie is surely one of those rare irreplaceable stars who will live forever.
There's an interview with Glenn Hughes he says Blackmore was unbearable mostly because he was too serious and focused on the music and all the other boys in Purple, except Lord and Paice, were also trying to have as much fun as possible at the same time...there are interviews with Paice and Lord confirming that...an extremely focused musician clashing with other extremely talented guys who were sometimes losing it because of too much drinking, partying and drugs...he actually never had that sex, drugs and Rock'n'Roll mindset and would get mad at the other guys

We rushed the. Stage in Jacksonville fl.I guess it was around 1971 and I was right in front of Ritchie’s amp I could not hear for a few days but I would do it all over. Gosh he was just so fast and melodic. Definitely top five best guitarist. Wish he would have stayed in the band.
I have never heard Blackmore speak, other that reading an interview . Those slide melodies he has in Rainbow are amazing. They say Yngwie sounds like Blackmore, maybe in Rhythm guitar, but i have never heard Yngwie play slide.
For me, Ritchie is number one from the 70s, I love his style and sound enormously. He was sincere in this interview, and perhaps few are like that! Perhaps it is precisely this mysterious, difficult fluctuating character that a little bit sincerely resembles me that personally made him in my eyes the greatest of all and perhaps ever! It is my opinion, I had the pleasure of seeing only two concerts of him in Italy, they were both fantastic .... Ritchie Blackmore is simply a great artist ..... thanks for posting this interview.

Bonnett is one of the greatest hard rock singers ever (which is odd bc that's not what he does but then Ritchie hired him)! GREAT VOICE. GREAT PIPES. (Most rock singers and metal singers are AWFUL, and have shrieking voices or whiny voices like Vince Neal and the rest.) I think it was solely IMAGE that pushed GB out, cuz some fans were shocked by his LOOK.

I don't think Ritchie ever knew exactly what he was as a Guitarist or Musician. He's a wonderful Guitarist, one of the best. But he never had the success Jimmy Page had. Page knew what he was and what he wanted (as did Led Zeppelin).
I was in an aw when I heard him for the first time. It seemed that he was always ahead of any other guitarist at that time. One of his most brilliant solos is the one on Kentucky Woman. If you don´t know it, you should. Additionally his guitar sound still is exceptional, especially when he plays bluesy stuff. I once heard him with Rainbow. It was way too loud and not really good. But then he suddenly played a blues tune and that was worth listening to the whole damn show.
I met him once. I blew off organic chem lab, went to the local watering hole and he happened to walk in (seriously. Turns out he was at the time dating a local gal). Went up to him, offered to buy him a beer. He said sure, have a seat. We spoke for over an hour talking about gear, Baroque music (he knows a lot, very knowledgeable). This was 76, the Rising tour. I mentioned that I was looking forward to seeing the band next week. He then went to a pay phone (yes, I'm old), made a call. Got me backstage pass. Went to the concert - great f*cking concert. Went backstage. Met Ritchie again. He remembered me and thanked me for coming. Met the other lads in Rainbow. Great bunch of guys. Goddam, Cozy was funny as hell. Hit it off with Tony Carey (I'm also a keyboardist). He gave me suggestions on Moog synth settings. I found Ritchie to be a really nice guy, not at all like the image he cultivated for himself, down to earth, soft spoken, highly intelligent. And of course, he is the GOAT!!

. I heard him say one time on an interview that he did not like fireball. W t f. I thought that was a great album. "No no no." "No one came." And especially the Title song .... FIREBALL !!! You don't get any more rocker than that!

Fantastic video. There is so much half baked information about him but this was as clear as it gets. Thank you so much. I don't understand why he didn't continue with graham Bonett and Tony Carey though I think I understand to an extent.
Bonnett is one of the greatest hard rock singers ever (which is odd bc that's not what he does but then Ritchie hired him)!
GREAT VOICE. GREAT PIPES. (Most rock singers and metal singers are AWFUL, and have shrieking voices or whiny voices like Vince Neal and the rest.)
I think it was solely IMAGE that pushed GB out, cuz some fans were shocked by his LOOK.

I don't think Ritchie ever knew exactly what he was as a Guitarist or Musician. He's a wonderful Guitarist, one of the best. But he never had the success Jimmy Page had. Page knew what he was and what he wanted (as did Led Zeppelin).
I was in an aw when I heard him for the first time. It seemed that he was always ahead of any other guitarist at that time. One of his most brilliant solos is the one on Kentucky Woman. If you don´t know it, you should. Additionally his guitar sound still is exceptional, especially when he plays bluesy stuff. I once heard him with Rainbow. It was way too loud and not really good. But then he suddenly played a blues tune and that was worth listening to the whole damn show.

despite everything i heard about him, he's seems like a very decent, straight, talking bloke here.
I met him once. I blew off organic chem lab, went to the local watering hole and he happened to walk in (seriously. Turns out he was at the time dating a local gal). Went up to him, offered to buy him a beer. He said sure, have a seat. We spoke for over an hour talking about gear, Baroque music (he knows a lot, very knowledgeable). This was 76, the Rising tour. I mentioned that I was looking forward to seeing the band next week. He then went to a pay phone (yes, I'm old), made a call. Got me backstage pass. Went to the concert - great f*cking concert. Went backstage. Met Ritchie again. He remembered me and thanked me for coming. Met the other lads in Rainbow. Great bunch of guys. Goddam, Cozy was funny as hell. Hit it off with Tony Carey (I'm also a keyboardist). He gave me suggestions on Moog synth settings.
I found Ritchie to be a really nice guy, not at all like the image he cultivated for himself, down to earth, soft spoken, highly intelligent. And of course, he is the GOAT!!
Now that was a GREAT story, thank you for sharing...
