Apologies for the iffy audio quality in this video. I tried something new with fixing up the sound, hoping that it would make my editing easier. Instead it made things much worse: I had to re-record no fewer than 37 different lines in this video, which is why you may notice some variation in tone from line to line at times. Sound is consistently one of my biggest problems when it comes to making these videos. I have been operating with a $100 headset microphone this whole time, which I then try to clean up in Audacity. But... I'm a hopeless amateur when it comes to everything sound. I've been planning to get a new microphone for some time, but when I'm not putting it off to instead work on the next video? I'm getting baffled by what exactly I might need along with the microphone itself. Different USB cords? Special adapter things to adjust the gain? The right microphone stand for my work area? My brain is well-built for writing and research, but far less so for these sorts of issues. x_x If anyone has any potential advice to give, I would welcome it. At the moment I'm thinking of getting something that can either be on a stand or attached to my desk: my desk isn't really big enough to have a microphone between me and my keyboard. I was looking at either the Blue Yeti or the Shure SM7B, though I am leaning towards the latter since I'll need a stand or attachment anyway.
no idea either but maybe try changing the environment to improve sound quality? I heard someplace it was kind of an overlooked thing that sometimes leads to pretty dramatic improvements edit: things like putting curtains up and etc
I would hazard a guess that the reason why Saber Astolfo is associated with bunnies is due to Japanese influence. The 'lunar rabbit' tradition is fairly strong over there so the leap in logic for the cute moon man to dress like a rabbit is actually rather sensible if you have a background in that culture.
I keep laughing at the fact that he also found his own sanity in the moon just Imagine going to the moon to get your friends sanity to only found out you yourself are insane this whole time
There's a conversation between him and charlemagne in Extella Link that implies Astolfo's crossdressing wasn't a thing when they were alive. Which means it was only a thing he started doing as a servant.
they really took the creative liberty to connect Astolfo with the moon rabbit because he went to the moon once. and in Japanese folklore the rabbit is making mochi on the moon so... that explains the valentine CE
Astolfo certainly is quite the goofball, but we still love him for it 😅 Ah next is Gawain, from one knight to another. He’s a good boy, and so is Gareth (she’s so cute)
Ah yes Astolfo, the single character that made an entire generation of anime fans have a "Wait a minute... Am I ga--? No? Surely not. HA! HA! HA! HA! *cough* Oh but seriously please don't look at my browsing history." moment.
Apparently, though I haven't read it myself, only heard this from other Fate fans Quevedo's Heroic Poem of the Follies and Follies of Orlando the Lover (the two Follies are different in original language it's the Poema heroico de las necedades y locuras de Orlando el enamorado), a later reworking of the tale is where the crossdressing comes in. He is described as very effeminate and cute (though I still don't think the scene about crossdressing to stop Roland happens)
Concerning the subpar accuracy of the individual classes of Astolfo. That's kind of the point lore wise. Many Servants are only qualify for one Class Container as far as we know. The ones that qualify for multiple classes are too large an existence for the ritual mechanics to summon in full. Imagine how much more broken Gilgamesh would be if all his Servant class incantations were actively expressed power-wise in one body. Counter Force and Gaia would be allied to kill him ASAP rather than tolerate such a complete resurrection of such a highly magical existence.
Don't know if anyone mentioned this but basically the reason astolfo has monster strength is because he was able to lasso a giant and put it through town.
I thought the cross-dressing was similar to Blackbeard where he embraces modern culture and he British and they are well know for crossdressing or at least a lot of English pop culture cross dressing show up often enough in comedy
I tend to avoid the darkest parts of the internet. But when I was looking for fan art of Astolfo to go with the post I made that his video was coming up? I came across quite a few.... spicy images before I found the one I wanted. x_x
Astolfo artwork and his character perception pre-FGO and pre-2020s is like night and day. Back then he was a good fella with no evil in his heart. I was even surprised that a few people honestly thought he and Jeanne would be a couple based off of some old 4chan posts and artwork. Then FGO and the Apocrypha anime exposed him to a much wider audience who never cared about his personality and history, just his looks. And I need not mention some other individuals -Ankoman and Kotomitako- who corrupted his very being into something unrecognizable.
astolfo is pretty much every gamer playing rpg´s. on his way to the main quest (supporting his king) he does every side quest he comes across and ending up going to every spot on the map other than than where he originally wanted to go hundreds of hours prior.
It is kinda crazy how much luck the character has despite not being that good in the game design wise, but he is a loveable goofball and thats enough for me.
About the bunny outfit, I think I can answer that but it also doesn’t have anything to do with Astolfo himself. It’s because of Yu Tu. The pet bunny of Chang’e who ascended to the moon. It really has no connection to Astolfo other than that he too flew to the moon but it’s pretty in keeping with this Astolfo’s personality to essentially cosplay Yu Tu.

extremely unrelated but I wonder if the game "To the Moon" was based on this narrative that everything that gets lost is found in the Moon. iirc the main guy and girl made a promise to each other as kids that if they ever get lost, they'll meet in the moon.
