  • Baptism seems to pop up out of nowhere in the New Testament. Where did it come from? And why do none of the Jews going out to John at the Jordan ask him what baptism is? In this video, Chad Bird answers those questions by exploring baptism's Old Testament pedigree. By tracing the connections between creation, the Flood, the crossing of the Red Sea, Jordan River, and various ceremonial washings, we learn that baptism is not some novel act but the pooling together of all these Old Testament stories into one. By approaching baptism from an Old Testament perspective, we deepen and enrich our understanding of this action of God.

This is the best presentation of baptism that I’ve ever seen. I am so satisfied and thankful to have seen this and have a much better understanding of everything. Thank you!

This is excellent! Thanks very much for it, I appreciate the Red Heifer reference as that one takes a lot of digging to get at. I wonder why you left out circumcision though (Col 2:11-12)? I know there's no water in circumcision but it definitely came about in the O.T. and it is also referenced as an analogue to baptism. Small quibble for a great study. God bless

I’m considering Lutheranism. Do all confessional Lutheran pastors wear funny garments?

Where can I find Lutheran books that give irrefutable biblical evidence for baptism?

The Romans came over and taught everyone how to take a bath.
