- I've rounded up 9 high-end hairsprays for this testing video😅 Find out if any of these are actually worth the higher price tag and how they compare with the old formula of Aussie Instant Freeze Hairspray. Let me know if there are any others that I need to add to my testing list!
***NOTE: There are two other high-end products that I tested and completely forgot to include....the Kenra 25 and 30 hairsprays. I'll talk about those in another video soon😘

Love IT. Have been using it for years. I have soft, fine hair and this product is all that works for me. Thank you for all the trials.
Extensive research, Sharalee! Your finished look is perfection and appears ready to stand up to the day. My long time faves are Kenra 25 (mainly for "working") and Kenra 26 and Tigi Bedhead Masterpiece for finishing. I also use the Tigi Maxxed Out (in a pump) for the final 3 spritzs but it has been discontinued and I am devastated 😫. I actually have a couple inches of product left that I have rationed for months to make it last. It was such a great non aerosol because it dries fast, isn't wet or heavy on my super fine hair, holds like a helmet without crunch, and smells amazing. WHY do phenomenal products get DISCONTINUED?!?🤔😥
Sharalee…. You are really trying a lot of hairsprays. I am liking the IT hairspray definitely holds my style in place I will keep your top 2 in mind though. thanks for all your hairspray trials. Have a good weekend 💕🌹🌷🌸💕
Helmet Head is a game changer! So glad you reviewed it!
I absolutely love the Calista products ❤. She does a great job with her styling tools as well 😊
Today I tried Calista spray for the first time...I love it. Thanks so much for the recommendation! I have Chi waiting in the wings for tomorrow to try that one. I can always depend on your recommendation...you never let us down. Thank you!
So appreciate all your videos! I was growing out my pixie but watching this makes me want to chop chop!
I love the 2 products you recommend last year for my short pixie. Aussie Root Boost & Kenra 3 day mousse.
Wow thank you for getting us on the right road!
I'm glad you're doing this. I've used Aussie for years and loveD it. Why in the world would they change the formula! And to top it off "WATER" is their first ingredient. I didn't think alcohol was that expensive. I know you'll find the replacement!
Hey Sharalee! I just love these reviews because I am always looking for that perfect hairspray too. I have looked at quite a few of them based off other reviews and hated them - L'Oreal Ellnet to name one - but also don't want to spend lots of money for something I hate (which has happened so often). I have looked at the Chi one so many times but again the price threw me off. Well I am now on the hunt for it at Marshall's for sure!! Thanks for taking one for the team sweet friend!! ♥
Hey Sharalee! God bless your sweet heart. You have spent so much time and money into finding the perfect hairspray. You know, you would think in 2023 there would be more and better options. Thank you so much for all your hard work and effort. Lange makes some wonderful shampoo. They have 50% off sales three or four times a year which is when I shop. Love ya sweet friend!❤
They are all a tax write off.
Thanks for the hairspray recommendations. I found the large size CHI Helmet Head at Marshalls for $9.99! Love you and your channel.💞
Thank you for continuing to do the footwork in finding the ultimate hairspray. I have to say, the Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine was awful in my hair. It made my scalp itch, it flaked and caused little pimples in my scalp. So, big "NO!", for me. So, I may have to give the Chi a try. I think the scent would also be a hit for me. Of course, I still love the IT hairspray. Thank you, Sharalee, for these videos. Love, KIMBER(Your Austin, Texas Sister)🥰🙏
Thank you so much Sharalee for testing. The amount of money I’ve spent on hairspray is astronomical! I think I will try the Calista based on your recommendation as well as sampling. THIS was A LOT of work on your part. MOST GRATEFUL…..❣️❣️❣️ 🙋🏼♀️💖🙏🏻❣️
You are so welcome!💕 Hopefully the Calista will work for you too...I know my wallet is getting light trying all of these hairsprays too😆😘
Me too 🥺🥺
i have been using the Kenra 25 and 30 for several years...love them.
Thanks so much for taking time for this project! As a pixie cut gal, who's relied on Aussie Freeze..I'm on the search for a replacement 😢. I'll be bringing a travel size of that CHI spray on vacation next week!! Appreciate your timing more than you know!! 🎉
Hi!!
I got 3 cans from Anazon and paid $15. I ordered BEFORE I saw the update regarding this brand. Boy was I mad and had planned on sending my order back, but was pleasantly surprised that the 3 cans were the old recipe. Now, I am all set and getting ready for my pixie cut!! God Bless!
Might try VAVOOM freeze spray.
I’ve tried so many many hairsprays …love the Paul Mitchell shaper plus!
As always, thanks for sharing and giving us some great tips! I've, hugs and blessings from Texas! ❤
You are so welcome! Love & blessings to you too, sweet lady♥️
we are fortunate to have a small 2nd home/apt.. and guess what i found there the other day....the old aussie formula! would gladly send to you for all the joy u bring and all the work u are doing on this hairspray challenge!
Awww, that is so sweet of you!😍 If you are sure you want to part with it, email me (sharaleesboxofchocolates@gmail.com) and I'll give you shipping details💕
Thank you so much for helping us make good choices with hair spray!🥰👏
Thank you for another review.😊
I love Sebastian Super Shaper Plus and also Aquage Hairspray!
I do like the Helmet Head alot. My go to is the Kenra 25. Thank you so much for the trials. I watched your previous video and looking for a cheaper option than the Kenra 25, the IT worked pretty well for my baby fine hair. The one thing I will say is don't let it get wet! Lol. That wasn't fun. Ran to the car in the rain and it was crispy! Other than that great option, I did have to hold it about 12 inches away or was too much. I'm finding though I really don't need much spray with the IT gold can you demoed. Love all the great ideas!
Thanks for your reviews.. good job!
I agree since aussie came out with the extreme freeze, there has not been anything in comparison out there. Sad that they discontinued it!!
I love Keune High Impact Hairspray. It's expensive, but the smell is great, and it holds VERY well!
THANKS SO MUCH for doing this it is so helpful your the BEST!!!
I read thru all the comments the night before last and no one ever mentioned the recall of ALL 32 hairsprays/dry shampoos.
That recall was due to the fact they all contained Benzene which supposedly causes cancer. (?)
Surely, the "new and improved" versions of all the sprays that USED to work and no longer do, has to have something due to that recall.
I never heard anything about it until my Aussie went to water bubbles and it was in 2021 when the recall came out which I wish I had heard of!!
I'm assuming it took this long to go into effect.
What does Benzene do to hairspray to have been added in the 1st place has not yet been an answer I can find on Google yet.
Thankfully, I have 6 small cans left and I pray, by the time they're gone, I'll have found a replacement as NOTHING holds my incredibly thin hair like Aussie Instant Freeze.
Thank you SO much for doing the work for us! I wish your top 3 choices were priced Aussie price as I have about as much money as I do hair. Lol!
I’ve never tried the Chi one but I have used other products of theirs and I get good results so I’ll have to try it!
Thank you for trying the Matrix Vavoom Freezing Spray! Thats their new look but I think the formula has changed. When I suggested it, I was using the old formula. I love how the Chi helmet head works but the fragrance is too much for me. I believe I will try the Calista based on your review. Thank you for testing all the hairsprays for us!!!
I love your hair. ❤ I’m cutting short this week.
So glad to hear you say that about Trois Chic Lange and the 3rd dial. Mine shot out 3 FEET. And the 1/2 dial were not much better. I have fine hair and there was no way I could use that in my hair. Fire hose was right. The biggest disappointment was they do NOT take product back or exchange, if it was not useable in the first place. I was lucky enough to get a LITTLE $$ back after much complaining.
Looks gorgeous ❤
Oh I will have to try this! Love the enjoy wax!
I also found and tried Kenra 25 and love it!
The best in my opinion is the ION freezing spray!! Nothing else compares!
My latest hair spray test is the It Original Freeze. So far so good. The smell is pretty good..hold is good so far. Haven't tested it in a rain storm as of yet...a little scared to try that.
My philosophy is that a good product is cheaper than a hair procedure or appointment. If it works, I’ll usually buy it. Thanks for your research and pleasant presentation. 🌸
You are so right! Glad you found this helpful!😍
I have longer hair but my favorites are kenra. I start with 9 while blow drying then add 25 and 30 to style
Great videos!!!😊
With my fine hair I will be trying a few of these out for myself
Thank you !! Aussie freeze spray was my best asset for my thin fine hair. I couldn't believe how the formula change to make my hair more limp!! I decided to spend the bucks on the Bed Head spray you tried and it works great, even better than the old Aussie . On Amazon Bed Head is priced not too badly. It actually takes less spray to achieve my style.
Wonderful!! I'm so glad you are enjoying the Bed Head too!💖
I went back to Aveda Pure Abundance. I use it on my bob length hair for back combing. That or their witch hazel spray are my favorites.
Sharalee, I use Pureology hair products. They do have a Style & Protect Soft Finish Hairspray; travel size is $11 and 11 oz. regular size is $31. Ulta and Amazon carry this, as well as some hair salons.
'Frozen Stiff' by Beyond the Zone, 10 oz can for $10.99 at Sally's. They also sell a travel size I believe. It was my go to when I wore a faux hawk.
Has this product been discontinued too? I was told about this spray from my bff, and we couldn’t find it anywhere; not even online. It sounded like it might have been like the old Aussie Instant Freeze; but it seems I may never know! 🙈😩
Love chi products!!
I love Kenra #25 and #30! Also Nick Chavez hairsprays are wonderful!
When my hair was short and I wore it spiked up, I used Kenra #25 or 30. My niece buys at a discount and I'd buy from her, She's used for years and years. My hair is very long now and I don't use hairspray at all and am thrilled about that. But I remember the days of my fave hair products being discontinued. Thanks for taking the time for these tests.
@@michelle7352 I have a cosmetology license so I can get Kenra at cost!
Hi Sheralee,
Calista is sold on QVC. You can usually get a better deal there, like 2 bottles for 35.00.
Great video. Thanks!!
Thanks for the tip! That's a much better deal!😍
Yes, QVC is usually the best price for Calsita. I tried the Enjoy product & just didn't work for me. My hair is a different texture than yours. Thanks for your recommendations ❤
Thanks for the review
I use Lange and never paid more than 12$ for it 😊
Wow thanks for the video. Because it’s safer for the environment, I’m going with the Paul Mitchell pump! It’s hard to find non-aerosolized sprays.
I love the CHI scent❤
Hi ! Thank you for the video, it really helped. Can i ask if the Chi helmet will look stiff for the long fine hair ? Thank you again.
P.S. I also use and love the Got to Be hair powder for volume on top, and the Garnier texture spray for volume texture…they the enjoy hair wax for piecing. A lot of product I know…lol…but I do wash my hair every day. I think with the IT hairspray…the combination is working! Just FYI!!
I found 16 cans of the old formula at Ollie’s for $1.99 each! I was so excited!
Thank you for posting that comment! I went to Ollie's after seeing your post and I found 15 cans!
@@VickyRenee Awesome!! So glad you did!
Try Paul Mitchell Invisible Undone texture hairspray. I think that you will like it. Some of the first ingredients are the same. I love your hair videos. Thanks
I really appreciate this! Can I hear it for Aqua Rock!?! 😂
Try Kenra voluminizing #25 spray…I love it
I think the Calista provided some good shine! I didn't care for the IT Mega Freeze spray-it's a no for me. Made my hair feel dirty. My current stylist is now going to be out for 9 months so I am hyperventilating. Do you know what number your undercut is? Great style you ended up with here!
I like John Frieda's Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Hard Hold, for a dupe for Aussie. Switched years ago already. Give that one a try and see how it works for you? Trial sz is inexpensive too. 4-5$ range.
I do use chi also… like it but a bit stiff and hard but does the job 😂
Aqu net spray would hold anything!! I don’t know who makes it but amazon has it for 9.00 thought it used to be under 2.00 a can
Calista has an entire line of products and hair tools. They're all also sold on QVC by the founder Maria McCool. She does a lot of RUclips demos. I've been using the spray for quite a while..
Good to know! Thanks for sharing😍
@@SharaleesBoxOfChocolates It's sold in a duo/2 pack for $35 on QVC!
QVC has two 10 oz cans for $35 + 3.50 shipping (19.25 ea.) & flex pay if you need it.
Hi Sharalee, could I ask where you got the looks like blue top with what I call dots? So pretty. You are holding the It hairspray can
Have you tried Helium Hair Fibre Flex? It’s really good for adding lift to your hairstyle!
I swear by Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine. Great hold and scent.
Sharee what eye shadow brand/colors are you wearing....just beautiful ❤
Hawaiian White Ginger is a heavenly aroma!!! It makes me think of Paradise not ginger cookies! Think Hawaiian Lei fragrance!🎉
The Calista Embellish Spray can be bought at QVC. I use this and I love it. I have very fine hair, and when I spray it on my roots it gives me so much fullness.
That's so wonderful to hear!!😍
Have you ever used any version of the *Calista Perfector* or any competitor)? Easier for me than flat iron or curling iron?
I lucked out and found some original Aussi at Discount Drug Mart and plus they were on sale...cleaned out the shelf.
hello my friend, thank you for this video💗💗💗
Thanks for trying all of these!
I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of Kenra 25 vs. 26 vs. 30?
It’s such a balance of what spray works with what pomade too … lol, a science.
I totally forgot to include the Kenra 25 and 30 in this video!🤪 I like the idea of a "battle of Kenra hairsprays"...😘
I’d love to see your review … I’m delighted you like the idea! ❤
I purchase the dupe for Kenra Volume 25 at Sally. It works just as good for less money.
I've been using Instant Freeze for years and loved it, I just tried the new formula and it's HORRIBLE, we MUST find something else just as good as the old Aussie😳😳
Redken changed their formula too. 😢 thanks for your research. Btw they deny they changed it but the ingredients label disagrees as well as the results.
Good morning!! I’m also a short hair girl, and I had told so many about the Aussie Insta Freeze and when I saw you used it I was so excited!lol. So equally as disappointed when they changed the formula. I have settled (for the most part) on the IT Freeze (drugstore). The extreme freeze is the better one. I find it is not quite as good…but still has the hold I’m needing and actually does not feel as stiff.ha. It’s gonna have to do for now until you find us another!lol
Your just amazing
Can you recommend for the UK something similar to Enjoy Dry Wax, I have such fine hair. Thank you, Barbara
I love your hair videos! I have a pixie cut too and I love it! Can you recommend a good flat iron? I don’t think the one you use is available.
So glad you are enjoying my videos! I love my CHI flatiron but you are right, my exact model was limited edition. However, I'll link one here that seems similar:
go.magik.ly/ml/1sc3q/
Hello, I see sooooo many different options of the CHI. Different options, different holds. What is your choices' actual name? I want to try it.
Calista products are on QVC. She is their hair stylist. I have ordered some of her products from QVC.
Helmet head is also sold at Walmart
Thanks for all the work you’ve doing. I just adore your hair. How often to you get it cut?
Hopefully all of these reviews are helpful😍 I usually get my haircut about every 4 weeks.
@@SharaleesBoxOfChocolates Thank you. That’s how often I go too
Makes it easier on our stylists, I think😘 If I go any longer, it's like I have a whole new style😂
@@SharaleesBoxOfChocolates Yup mine starts to look sloppy. My neck grows in so fast
I go between Chi, Kenra and Joico
Calista hairspray(QVC) and Chi hairspray can be bought at (T J MAX).
Have you tried Redkin #25? High end definitely
What dry pomade do you use to style your hair?
What curling/straightening iron are you using? Thanks
If I'm not mistaken I think the Calista is a QVC brand. I've seen it on there. I just use a cheap hair spray and very little of it.
Yes, I think you are right! You are fortunate not to need much hairspray😘
I always Return to Sebastian hairspray. They have regular and max hold.
I’ve been using Bed Head Hard Head. It’s very dry hairspray and I love the hold. I’m a big hair girl, and I was so upset when I found out Aussie changed their formula. 😢
I LOVE Bed Head Hard Head, the only downside is that each and every time I use it the spray nozzle clogs and sends hair spray at the wall or ceiling. Is it just this particular can I bought or do you find the same issue.
@@jeankintzler6340 I wipe off the nozzle after every use and it helps to prevent this i believe. I love it too.
@@jeankintzler6340 Take nozzle off can put in hot water clean with toothbrush. As a hairstylist this happens with many spray products.
@@jeankintzler6340 Unfortunately that's why companies change the good formulas to crap! Too many people returning the product I suppose.
Tried the Freezit with shine. It's great, but makes my head itch darn it.
Beyond the Zone "Flipped Out" best for my fine, flat hair. I have tried them all.
Is this like the old BTZ Frozen Stiff? Or the replacement for it?
@@AJ.943 Had never tried the Frozen Stiff. The BTZ Flipped Out does not leave my hair stiff or tacky.
How does the Bed Head Hard Head smell? I'm looking for something that works great and smells great. That's hard to find.
I am an Aussie woman too.
I purchased Hard Head a few weeks ago and loved it, then bought to more cans and they are not the same! They dried out my hair, made it droop and just does not hold the same. Was this one reformulated, too?
Google the list of the 32 recalled hairsprays/dry shampoos and see if it's listed. (I'd find and send the link but there are so many of them!)
You need to try Garnier sprays for drugstore. Also smells very nice. I like the green can, but there are stronger levels of hold. Do you remember final net hairspray, products and Rave from the 80s? My teen years!
I use the Garnier hairspray but not much hold. The spray does smell nice though
Have you ever tried the Bedhead Hard Head Hairspray? I was thinking about trying it.
Oh yes!! I talk about that at the end of this video😘 It's still the closest one to Aussie and I love it.
Something that helps my short hair is to not use conditioner or very, very little of it, otherwise it gets too soft and hairspray won't work as well!!!
I have baby fine hair & naturally curly. I found out years ago if I used conditioner my hair would go flat.
@@tammyg2631 With my dry skin, I always use conditioner and leave it in as long as I can in the shower. I guess you could do a small quick wash at the end to remove as much as possible, but the root booster does the work for me, so no flat hair.
