0:14 wait for the last layer to dry
1:15 use thicker mix for the next layer
    2:10 use fewer strokes
    2:56 build multiple layers
    4:37 check colour opacity

Demonstrating what NOT to do is just as important as showing what to do correctly. Thank you for a thorough and detailed explanation.

My paintings always looked like that "how not to" painting that you did. Now i know why! I'm just so impatient, i want to finish it as quickly as possible and you cannot do that with layering.. Anyways, thanks for this simple explanation!! Much appreciated!!

Thank you so much for this video! I've been watching so many "gouache for beginners" videos lately and a lot of them go over basic knowledge most artists who don't practice gouache should already know (such as color relations and the such). Your video is MASSIVELY informative on gouache specifically as a medium!

Huh, I've been wanting to get into gouache from acrylics and I'm pleasantly surprised that, apart from the water, it's similar to how I already paint! Gouache is so beautiful! At first, I thought it was all digital art.

  • @atelier_nona

Thank you so much for this! Most artists only show the process of layering on a small rectangle swatch - if at all. So your video was ACTUALLY helpful, as others have said. I struggle a lot with layers myself, so I tend to work on a single one, ala prima style. You made me excited to try gouache again, since I work with Acryla Gouache where I don't have to worry about reactivating previous layers and can just mess around.

Hey wow interesting to see another digital - to traditional artist! I was also doing digital only for the past 15 years and now I'm getting into traditional, it's so freeing and refreshing, takes me back to my roots. I always hand drew my sketches for digital art anyway so it just feels more natural to me.

honestly this is intresting! lol im the opposite of you a traditionalist trying to go through digital art and honestly its the same fro me :""D but its kinda nice though hearing from this perspective! as someone who did traditional alot painting on digital with layers confuse me so i just try to paint on one layer :""DDD
anyways the options of colors that traditional doesnt offer (since it takes so much money s;dkjfnsdjak;fn) its really nice!!
anyways it was nice hearing form this! :DDD im glad digital artists are doing traditional B)

i would love a video on brush stroke technique as well! related to this - i managed to reproduce the small leaf strokes myself using round brush number 3 from the reeves brand (im not an expert painter so idk how this translates into other brands) i just got my gouache to the right consistency and then painted short strokes at a slight angle and the bristles created the effect naturally! hope that helps you a little :)
