Today I'm tackling my biggest challenge - landscapes AND photoshop! I'll share some tips I've learnt through experimenting with painting landscapes and buildings as a total beginner.

DRAWING YOUR OCs is the ongoing series where you guys enter in your OCs (Original Characters) on Instagram (using the hashtag #jennadrawmyoc) and I pick two entries to draw. Characters are picked based on both backstory and appearance, so make sure your characters are interesting and unique! :)
If you don't have instagram, email your character to me (including reference picture and backstory). My email is jenna.draw2014@gmail.com
Today I'm tackling landscapes AND painting in photoshop - two things completely out of my comfort zone!!! XD I'm sharing some tips I have for you guys, so I hope you enjoy!!

Jenna Drawing nice drawing but I think you should add a bit more texture on the grass and stones, it seems a bit idk flat? But overall it's amazing

This looks AWESOME! One thing I think you could add is maybe like an overlay texture of bark on the trees. Just an idea because they don't look that textured, like an actual tree. It still looks amazing tho! I love your art!!

Hi, Jenna. Just someone from the game industry poppin in. I wanted to add in that associate concept artists (at least for games) usually start off drawing very small and unglamorous things like environment props (barrels, weapons, small scene stuff) and rarely do characters or full landscapes right off the bat. Those are more senior things. Looking up junior concept artists on Artstation or wherever and peeking their portfolios is something that might help.

Try photo texturing with "soft light" blending mode. Or "overlay" on krita... or soft light on krita. Either way, they both render good results. Remember to bring back the painting after that.

Try painting in Krita. If you need your file to be PSD. Save it as a JPEG put it in Photoshop. And save it as a PSD

How do you learn to... come up with scenery compositions? Like ideas for scenery?
I can do a character, and draw a building with a lot of character etc... but I'm never sure about coming up with ideas for full comps, or where to start

Hey Jenna, I know your are trying to decide which path you want to take in art school and I just wanted to tell you you about my art teacher. She went to art school and her true passion was painting, she loved it and one of her professors saw this insisted she continued painting. Being young and stubborn she decided to focus on animating in school because she was convinced there was more career options in animating. Years later she can saw that not following her passion was one of her biggest regrets. I think that you should do whatever makes you happy in art school.

i came here for an art tutorial and stayed bc i heard “stay” in the bg. taste
4:49 its not that easy when you have friends who can draw anything better than you in a minute than something you draw in hours, and you can never ever draw anything as you want, and you never improve and always draw like shit. I haven’t drawn for a month because I felt shitty about my “art” and finally I gave up on drawing
