    Oh my god, this is PERFECT!!! My younger sister has been watching your channel for a few weeks and today she said that she wanted to be a painter. I told her I'd show her how to use Krita, which has been my drawing software since around July of last year. I asked her why she wanted to start painting and she said because she watched this channel. I decided "hmm, maybe i should practice painting today", and I've been going at it for a few hours now. I haven't liked the results so I started looking around for speedpaints to see how they do it and I started looking here. Then I saw that you had a painting tutorial yourself, and it's for KRITA of all things! Thank you so much for this, your art is beautiful and for you to share your workflow is just so nice. Sorry for the rambling! :p

    well reason ppl don't like Krita is (for newbies, for pros idk) hard to find good tutorials, thanks to you or David Revoy im diggin into this soft. For ex. i want to setup my pencil like real one- presure thicker line, angle - wider line(working in cohesion). Spent like 3h on tutorials - and no answer. Then study all dependence betwean option in brush engine for another 3h, so i spent like 6h just for 1setup before even drawing. High level of entry for me...

I think the only thing going for it for me is for lining, but even then it frustrated me quite a bit (I use a lot of hatching in my art).
      I think I'll be switching back to my trusty Gimp 2.6 lol. I might use FireAlpaca just for the cleaner linearts, but everything else probably not.

      Phandom Is A Potato's Life She has Krita on the computer and the tablet Jenna's talked about is a drawing tablet . On a drawing tablet you get a pen-like thing which you use . I'm awful at explaining so just Google 'drawing tablet' it will probably come up with something.

      I have advice for this! Pick out the features that will make this character distinct (maybe their eyes are more slanted than average or they have this unique hairstyle) Then practice drawing the character. Make a reference sheet of what they look like at different angles and with different expressions. Draw them over and over.
      It can get tedious, but trust me, it's worth it.

      Jeleli SAME IDK SOMEONE PLS EXPLAIN THE TYPES OF LAYERS

    • @BigStrath
      @BigStrath 5 лет назад +1

      @@theminiatureromantic I only have experience in Photoshop but it has the same layer options. Multiply takes information that is already on your canvas and multiplies the value so it is good for shaddows as you keep the underlying drawing. The overlay layer is good for highlights. I find it's difficult to get an exact color using these modes so I tend to manually paint in my shaddows but this method is pretty common and gets you good results. Check out Aaron blaise's channel. He is an animator and artist and he uses multiply and overlay in his drawings.

      I don't have any lags (never did) but I'm using Linux, not Windows. That might make a difference as Krita is natively developed on Linux by KDE and then ported to Windows.

    Thanks alot for this video it helps alot. There doesn't seem to be that many beginner tutorials for krita but this is perfect. I've always been interested in drawing but Ive never been very good at it but i really want to learn digital painting for making concept art.
    This is a great place to start if I know how to actually use my program of choice then it helps me to focus on learning how to draw rather than how to draw in this program. So thanks again.

      @@atlantisexo1738 As far as I know, canvas size mainly affects shape (aspect ratio) and quality. If you want to keep file size down, you can choose a lower canvas size, but try to make sure that your image is no less than the size and aspect ratio in which you intend for it to be viewed. Ex. Instagram (1:1): 1080 x 1080 - 2160 x 2160.

    As someone who learned photoshop in school and who's school account ran out of time for use i guess, trying krita is somewhat overwhelming. Using the pain brush creates a weird layer mask and the layer becomes see through and stuff.

    Drawing noob but tech wiz here, great video first of all! When it comes to your solution to lag, my bet is that when you uncheck OpenGL, Krita switches to using DirectX, which on Windows is sure to benefit its performance. Cheers!

But, at the same time i want to try out other programs and i heard good things about krita.

    Good tutorial. One thing tho: if you have a proper dedicated GPU, any of the midrange ones will do really, the openGL filters won't really cause a lag. The lag is caused by integrated GPUs trying to run filters alongside the CPU running the program. If your computer can run any modern 3D games e.g. it should run Krita without lag with openGL enabled (within reasonable document resolutions of course).

I bought a Deco 03 graphics tablet off XP-Pen and started watching RUclips videos on how to use Krita and Synfig. I was really happy to find this lag solution. I tried Krita 3.3.0 recently and it had actually 3 options - OpenGL, D3D and none. Plus I have 2 graphic cards in my laptop, so technically I have 6 options to choose from. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to work with Lenovo's Active Pen 2 in this program - the strokes don't lag, they just won't make a whole line (just dots or blobs now and then), or the program just crashes, depending on the setting I choose. I can imagine I won't be having these problems with my Intuos. But for the consistency's sake, I'll better dig into Paint Tool Sai 2 for this time being. Big thanks anyway!
