  • From 1977 until around 1990 Japan ruled the world of guitar effects, but during that time there were 2 rival companies duking it out for supremacy; Boss and Ibanez. Both companies innovated and created effects that we now know as standard effects. Boss produced theirs in house, while Maxon designed and manufactured for Ibanez. The question is, were they copying each other or were they inspired by each other?

Nah, you can’t be afraid to dime the tone on a TS808. It sounds magnificent.

OD-1 is the clear winner to me: most open, dynamic (least compressed) and gritty in a good way. The bass cut/upper-mid boost was for a reason. They were conceived for boosting/punching leads through a band mix.

Very Cool, Thankyou. So many awesome sounds. I have a Boss BD-2 and Boss DS-1, they work well together giving a wide range of Drive tones, but I really want an SD-1 ...... just because, lol. Cheers

TS9 is the warmest and smoothest !!
    SD1 is thinner and harsher.

I've been using a TS-9 for long while now. I have a love and hate relationship with the compression over the decades especially when I use humbuckers. I think the tone control ramps up the treble at around 3 o'clock.

Do you use it as your primary overdrive or as a boost?

@@JasonAyalaSpare I use it to boost a Catalinbread DLS, for solos

I LOVE these 4 pedals. But I was surprised how GOOD the OD1 sounds. I have never tried that pedal and I own a TS9. Yes the TSs sounds a bit more compressed but you can't deny that midrange increase that helps cut through the mix. The OD and SD on the other hand is not compressed as much as the TS but they sound clear and fat. I would love to have any of these 4 on my pedalboard. They all just sounds so good!
That being said, I enjoy the clean sound the most here! It sounds so clear and crystalline clean. I felt the urge to play some Ventures records hehehehe.....

I've been messing with my single rectifier series 2 lately. The clean tone is awesome really. The gain channels aren't what I want. Bought a boss ds1 awhile back as a boost but not very happy with it. Thinking of getting a boss od1 or a Ibanez ts9. Any recommendations for a single rectifier, anyone? Using a Mesa 2x12 horizontal cab btw. Also have a dsl20 head with a Marshall mx2x12 vertical cab.

Personally, I like using a Blues Breaker with my rectifier. It doesn't add much extra gain, but it brings out your pick attack.

Hej! BOSS låter absolut bättre än Ibanez. Jag har en SD-1 som är en favorit och nu blir jag ju sugen på att köpa en OD också. Tack för att du gjorde denna video så man kan jämföra. Ha en trevlig helg!
