    This was at the time Momota just came back after a year ban. He came back super strong with long winning streak. No one knows the answer to defeat him.
    Then in Malaysia Open, LCW's home turf. It was interesting how LCW could defend his home turf with some class! It was as if he showed Momota he is not yet invincible :P.
    In one of his rallies, I reflected how much LCW exerts some extra efforts which is quite strange. He doesn't play as ferocious as normal, looks a little bit tired, but was able to remain calm and composure. His whole game relies on accuracy, counter defense, and the ability to match Momota's netplay to open Momota's court.
    Later on after this ended, news reached us that LCW is suffering from cancer.
    That explains why he had to use that kind of strategy, and it is still quite amazing that he wins the title against the currently very strong opponent in the world, while being sick, and still manages to win. Wow.
    Maybe he don't want Momota to win in home soil and choose to endure and play in Malaysia Open to defend his home turf.
    Incredible.

    No hate but Momota and Axelsen are truly lucky to be born later. Maybe their only competitions today are Jonathan Christie and Ginting. Back in the day LCW had to compete with tougher opponents like Lin Dan, Taufik, and Gade. Prime Momota got beaten by old LCW, surely Momota and Axelsen couldn't ever hope to beat prime Lin Dan and LCW.

    • @hommelwijf
      @hommelwijf 5 лет назад +11

      Its 1 match, in which LCW was performing great on home soil and Momota was tired from his endless streak. You just cant draw a conclusion like that, LCW and Lin Dan also lost some matches to older players in their prime, that doesn't make them worse.

    • @peterchui1964
      @peterchui1964 5 лет назад +28

      I agree with your logic, but i dont think it's that simple. While lcw in this match does not have the same stamina and pace he did in his prime, he has learned to be more patient at times and his net play and smashes have not decreased even slightly. And as we see against ginting momota can handle both fast-pace badminton and is not lacking in stamina either.
      I still think prime lin dan, lee chong wei are favoured against everyone in the scene at the moment, but momota gives me hope that the difference is not so obvious.

Lee Chong Legend Wei is 172cm, has this springy but light build being 68kg. He has managed to shoot 417kph smash at game. I didnt realise this was going to be the final Match LCW was going to play when I watched it on TV that night. The world lost the most respected Player in Badminton since he retired in 2019. At an old age 36 and with no longer the amount of high stamina level as he was compared to the young Momota , he still managed to beat prime Momota who is so much younger than him and he did it in 2 sets....which will be a feat never again to be seen in a long time by the world.
    Momota knew LCW will still be a painful thorn and a constant threat to him after this final match in the other tournaments even though LCW is so much older. He is surely relieved that LCW retired....cos no other player is able to make life hard for him. WHo else can threaten Momota now that LCW retired? Sigh....sadly....no one at the moment....and this is not good for the sport.
    To Malaysia's greatest hero LCW....Rest well our beloved Hero. You have made Malaysia and Malaysians proud of you with your insane skills and fighting spirit. We love you LCW!
