I really miss seeing Chong Wei on the court. He is a hero and a living legend to Malaysians.
The way he always kiss the Malaysian flag on his jersey whenever he wins a game will always be touching to me.
Lee Chong Wei, uniting Malaysians the way our politicians can only dream to do.
We miss you. May you be blessed with a great health and a happy life.

In team sports, you can be excused for not winning "the big one" for obvious reasons. There's no way around it for individual athletes. Their place in the GOAT conversation will depend on how many major titles they've won - in the case of badminton, Olympic and World Championship gold medals. It must be said though that winning the big one in badminton is much more difficult than in tennis because of the lack of opportunities. I can't believe LCW would have zero major titles if there were 4 "majors" per year instead of one.

LCW has won more international titles than any other player. He was the world number one for probably more than 400 weeks, in spite of being banned for some time for negligence. No one could beat that and no one will for a long time. The world ranking is arguably a more complete and balanced metric in measuring a badminton player's greatness. I know LD has a higher head-to-head winning, but hey, just look at their records against Axelsen. LCW:VA=11:3. LD:VA=3:4. So I guess it is merely a matter of perspective with regard to who the real G.O.A.T. is.

This was one of the best match I've had the chance to watch in a long time. Two very talented player playing in top shape (despite LCW old age). It was almost 2AM in the morning when I watched this live and the whole time I was quietly rooting for LCW. The only other time I felt the thrill of a match like this one was when LCW played LD way back at the 2012 Olympic game.
The whole time I thought I was watching an anime brawl-out (think Prince of Tennis). Momota resemble the typical antagonist with the pimple under his right eyelid, and the thirst for a good game. And Lee Chong Wei being the main character everyone knows and love, playing at his country home at the age of 35, in front of all his fans, kids and wife. If you ask me, it would have been the perfect retirement match!
Ps. Sorry, I watched too much anime.

This ought to be the only epic battle of the two for Lee became ill shortly after winning this tournament. I would say that he was playing his best here, probably at his peak as he might have felt his health conditions would eventually disappoint him. How lucky we can see a final like this.
