This is the kind of light that I suggest to people when they're going travelling. A keychain light and a victorinox can help out in many unplanned situations.
Omg, Nick! I have been watching your knife reviews forever and I was looking for a review on this light that I could trust and then I found your review! So glad you reviewed this one, thanks for being awesome!
I’ve had the TINI 2 for about 3 months. It’s a little pricey but it’s an outstanding light! It’s on my keychain, carry it every day and I’ve quit carrying a separate flashlight unless I’m leaving home in the dark or very select circumstances. Works great, good beam, lockout is simple and it’s SO small. It’s an exceptional light and I highly recommend it for every day practical use.
Ive had one now for about 6 months and I must say I can’t imagine wanting another keychain light. I hesitated for quite a while at the price but I now consider it a good value. When they periodically go on sale in the low $30’s they should be jumped on immediately
I've carried a v1 for almost 2 years now, and it's come in handy more times than I would have ever expected. It just lives in the coin pocked of my jeans, and is always there when I need it. I picked up a v2 for my brother for Christmas last year, and he seems to be digging it as well. Love these little flashlights, and if anything ever happens to mine, I'll definitely replace it with a v2!
I actually ordered a TINI 2 after watching your TIP SE review. It's been a fantastic backup to my "real" flashlight. Huge light output on my Keychain? Hell yes.
İt will also run whilst charging, so will work with a powerpack that most of us carry for our phones. Nitecore also do a rigid USB cable so that when connected to a powerpack it becomes a mobile desk/inspection light if mains power is not available.
I have a question about that. When you plug it into a power bank does the run time displayed on the oled increase ? Or is it constantly calculating the run time ?
Been carrying one on my keys ever since it came out. I don't feel the need to carry a full size light every day anymore unless I know I'm going to be working on something or going to be out in the dark for a long time.
I had the original Tini, but I've had a RovyVon Aurora for the last 3 year which also has uv/blue led and it's been excellent. It's small, powerful, and is perfect for my keychain.
I did the smart thing and waited until I got a 15% off Valentines discount, I applied that to buying the Tini 2 Titanium version, and I only paid 45 dollars, without discount I would have had to pay like 50 dollars for the titanium version. BTW, when I hear this guys voice, I can't help but to be reminded of, "Would you like the Ant Might, or the Ant Sight" "Oh how marvelous!" Those who've played the game, already know lol.
When you can get them around 35 bucks or so the value is out of this world. This light is superb and once you have it you won't understand how useful it is until you don't have it. I had no idea I would use a key light so much but it gets a crap ton of use. It's as part of my EDC as my P226 Legion 40sw. And my 226 is ALWAYS on my person.
I bought this light last week. There is one 'bug' to the electronics. The 'full lock-out, level 2' can not be unlocked in 'demo' mode, but it can in 'daily mode'. In demo mode, the only way to cancel the full lock-out is to plug in a charger; then when plugged in, you must press 'power button', which will finally cancel the lock-out, and reactivate the lamp.
This got me thinking... How about a TIP SE - TINI 2 hybrid? Same dimensions as the TIP SE but with the TINI 2 display and user interface? Personally I don't need more than max 500 lumens turbo and would rather have a longer runtime.
That looks sweet, but actually a little too small for my taste. I think the current TIP SE is the ideal size. If the TIP SE 2 has the new interface and a deep carry clip like the new TUP I will definitely pick one up.
Great review Nick, but you left out a imho, key feature, which is the “display mode”. I use this along with the lock out. Automatically turns the light off after 30 seconds. I’ve actually had one instance in the last 2 months where the lock out mode became unlocked in my pocket, and when I tried to use it, the battery was almost dead. I think the display mode limits the possibility of that happening again. Thanks!
Another entertaining and interesting review Nick! Over the years, I have had I'm my possession/rotation, several TIP variants, gen 1,2, etc, as well as the TiNi and no longer utilize any of them as part of my EDC kit anymore. Mostly in part of its 2 piece construction similar to an engine (head and block) that seems to fail over a short time, and not heavy use. I cannot tell you how many of my old TIP lights started shedding the rubber head gasket sandwiched between the top and bottom of the lights overall construction.. Plus the screws eventually fall out on their own. When I reached out to the manufacturer and made them aware of the screw issue as well as to ask for a replacement set, they informed me that since I didn't purchase the light directly from them, that they would and could not help me. That was unless I purchased something directly from them, then they would toss in a set.. I'm done with these northstar engine block reminiscent two piece lights, and went back to basics.. Check out the ASP Scribe, it's a real sleeper of an EDC light!
I have been carrying a Rovyvon light for this use case but this one seems like it upgrades a bunch of the nitpicks I had with the Rovyvon. Do you know if the regulation is a PWM?
I have the rovyvon that’s about the size of a AA battery. The first generation was pretty good. I decided to try the “upgraded” red version 2 years ago and bought a couple more for gifts as well. Terrible idea. None of them hold a charge more than a few weeks. Biggest waste of $100 in my life and they won’t address the problem or do anything for me after multiple emails. They returned one email with no remedy and then went totally silent. I consider the company a criminal enterprise.
I love my rovyvon A2x. Their warranty and customer service is great. My first one stopped working after 3-4 recharges, I just sent them an email, and they replaced it. But then the same thing happened with the new one. Emailed them again, and they replaced it. Turns out that the ones I had were from the first production run, and they had problems. They sent me a newer version and I have had no problems at all. I don’t carry it on my keychain, just put it in my watch pocket for edc.
@@ericbaxter2174 i have one bronze A3 that is fine. I have two of the “upgraded” A3 red versions. They both are worthless and the company does nothing about it. I have nothing but negative things to say about them.
@@jagpilotohio that sucks. I may just be lucky then. I think mine is and A8? So far so good. I like the upgrades on this TINI 2. USB C, battery display, separate buttons for on/off and levels and metal build. The lack of a clip is a bit of a bummer though. I like to clip the Rovyvon to my glasses or a hat for hands free use.
@@bwunger a clip for this is both a good and bad idea. Removing it from the keychain and clipping to the brim of a hat could be nice occasionally but it also adds bulk. The entire point if this is to be tiny. If it were any bigger or bulkier it would lose its appeal to me. It’s nice there are lots of choices.
For me, the TIP se wins because it's $10 less, only a little bigger (I don't put such things on my keys), and has a bit more juice. Still though, great light!
Cant go wrong getting any flashlight from a reputable company nowadays. My AAA keychain thrunite light has lasted me 4 years now and works everytime i need it unless the battery has failed. In my opinion, nothing that goes on your keychain should cost more than 20 bucks cause it will get scratched to heck by the keys.
should check out the MecArmy SGN3 or whatever the model model number is... it's a better built, more compact light with the same form factor. it also has UV (or maybe it's just a small moonlight mode led i forget) and a red light with constant or beacon. Although i dont think they have updated it to USB c yet.
The UV is pretty much useless, the red is nice though. Also, it is a bit outdated. But the best thing about the Tiny is that it runs while charging, so you can hook it up to your powerbank if you need more runtime.
@@etherealicer the one thats supposed to be UV on mine, is more like a moonlight super low lumen light so maybe i got a different model, i dont remember it was years ago... @@squirts1 I use my light almost more to be seen than to see. Recently, I used the TINI2 as a bike light after mine failed. Angled it at the rear-reflector and hooked it up to a power bank. Safe cycling with a broken backlight.
@@etherealicer i mean, good for you... i guess? you use what you like... I'm just saying the mec army is another option to look at and i like it's shape/size/build quality better. I really could not care less about the UV light so you can let it go already.
I was hoping it was like the Tube, which had infinitely variable brightness levels or whatever it's called rather than preset outputs. That's really the only thing that's putting me off this light.
The tube is great… $10 and a little over half the size of this light. Output is a big step down, but enough for 95% of what you need a keychain light for.
Its ok but battery life should be better for the price, mine runs down much quicker than the timer suggests my rovyvon a3 pro is a much better torch for the same money
To be honest, if I'm going to carry something that size, I'd go with Olight SR1 Baton 2 or 3. Keychain lights should be smaller and more lightweight than this Nitecore TINI 2 in my opinion.

The best keychain light that I've ever had. Thanks Nick, for the review and the light.
Just got one for my birthday. Lowdrag high speed. Philosophy of use. Edc light. Solid little offering. I’m digging it.

Didn't know this exists until a couple of month ago... now I would not buy an EDC light without it anymore. Top feature.
Perfect keychain light! will be picking this one up soon.
I have a Nitecore Thumb and it's been great for me. I don't need a lot of throw so it's great. Probably not for everyone, but I love it.
The thing that sold me is that this light can be used while charging. Hook it up to a power bank & this little light's runtime is as long as you want.
