  • In this video series I am goin to test out 2 new cold air intakes to see if they make a difference. First I need to see how much power the 5.7 Hemi in the Ram Rebel actually makes.

During the dyno runs and the discussion in their shop, the only thing I could hear is air spewing from an air hose or something and yelling in the background. I didn’t understand a word anyone said.
If you test the cold air intakes on a different day the differences in air density or temperatures will make a bigger difference on performance than the different air intakes. The results will be unreliable unless tested under the same air density.

I did forget to mention, Reno NV is at about 4,500 feet in elevation. So that will have an effect on the numbers we get. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

You need way more air for those big performance engines. First air filter that you showed is absolutely crap, trapping all heat from engine, no "cold" air there and second one is no different from stock one, same pipe pattern like stock air filter. You need short air intake, the shorter pipe is, better power. Power doesn't like heat. Second, from safety perspective, that's factory tune, manufacturer will never give you maximum power of engine, pickup is heavy vehicle you need a lot of stopping power to brake, that's why no maximum power of engine, they don't want you to kill someone. If you have tune for E85 try that with only short air intake, you will see completely different story, Ethanol already has molecule of oxygen in formula, and that, compering to gas which doesn't have oxygen in his formula at all. Plus ethanol has cooling effect on engine, and that what you need for this big engines. My factory flex fuel V6 ram 1500 on E85 produce same power as your gas hemi, and I didn't pay extra for parts and tune for E85.

My two cents. This is a cold air "ram" induction. Surely there is more air being pushed into the engine at say 55mph with the hood closed than sitting stationary on a dyno with the hood up. Is my thinking flawed?

Major problem I ran into is that my 5th GEN has the sport hood... it doesnt fit the hood, the rear 2/3 doesnt seal against the bottom of the hood. So so much for me getting this one.

@KingMrBigE Thats a bummer. You gonna have to switch hoods I guess. 😀

This or any other hi flow air system will not make a difference in HP or Torque. Todays modern engines are controlled by a computer, cold air intakes do absolutely nothing, The only the air the computer mapp is asking for will be used. no more and no less, same with the fuel. The only positives is the filter can be washed and reused, and it looks cool, (no pun intended) you might also get a little sound increase. so go ahead and spend 750.00 plus shipping on this hunk of hype.

You're right, it would work a little more if they did a custom tune by a professional tuner, but just installing for the sake of installing is a waste of money
