Chris should win an award for this series. The amount of creativity, the entertainment value, the sights and sounds of Japan that were so perfectly brought right to our screens is really like a magic. I love the whole "travel guide while doing a cycling challenge" concept, the variety of having several interesting personalities join as guests, the comedic interactions between friends, the daily challenges that kept me on the edge to see how things would pan out for the day, and of course the birth of Dr Jelly Commercials. Even the things that seemed like "mishaps" like the rain, the bike breaking, things not working out as planned during your journey made it more real and engaging on hindsight (although I can empathise with how frustrating and painful it might have been at that time, but just hope to say that these seemingly darker parts make Journey across Japan as authentic and outstanding as it is, because we all know that life isn't perfect and being too perfect would just look scripted.) I'm just really thankful for this series and I've even watched a few of the videos more than once (that shows it's rewatch potential). Although I'm a bit late to the party (these videos were filmed in 2018), but I feel that there's no better time I could have watched them as I really miss travelling to Japan because I can't due to the pandemic and these videos are helping me tide through those feelings. Thank you so much !

That being said, I laughed my head off when you stated you were doing this with no prep or experience and I felt sorry for you when I realised you were editing every video despite having a team with you. 4 hours sleep and cycling 50km should only be done during wartime emergencies.
The product was great and would love to see more but whilst you maintain a good level of health and sleep. It may have reduced the f words and sarcasm levels. But I low key enjoyed it but realised that major sponsors would have swerved you because of it.

Rewatching this made me realize this was the series that truly made me fall in love with Japan and sparked my interest to learn more about it. It's kind of sad that that you feel the release schedule put a cloud over the project. I loved Journey Across Japan. It was one of the best web-series I've ever seen. I was excited for every episode, and if I had to wait a long time for an episode to come out, that just made me anticipate it more. I would stop whatever I was doing an play the episodes on my TV whenever they were uploaded. I'd much prefer to wait a long time for something and have it be good than have a consistent schedule and it's mediocre. Nobody was disappointed by what you produced, and any disappointed that resulted from production delays was more than made up for when we got the episodes.
And I didn't get the sense that it didn't know what it wanted to be. It firmly felt like a travel show, with the cycling being a twist that made it unique.
I hope you'd consider doing a redux for the east coast next year. Now that you have the experience, you could safely film all of it and not worry about editing until the trip is entirely over, at which point you can put the videos out daily, or weekly or whatever. Also, now that you've established a format, it would be easier to hire an editor or assistant editor. Schedule in some days off of filming on the way and you've got a bulletproof plan.
Whatever you end up doing next though, I'm sure it's gonna be great!

Just watched the original Journey Across Japan again nearly 5 years later, and it’s just as good as it was the first time.
Good on you for losing weight, Chris. I’ve been on my own weight loss journey since September 2022 and lost nearly 60 pounds. The kicker? I’ve barely exercised this whole time 😂 the biggest part of weight loss is what you actually eat as I’m sure you figured out with Journey Across Japan.
Please go back to Matsuyama and see Kazu again! I love her personality. She reminds me a lot of Natsuki.
And show us more of Hiroyuki from Niigata City. I detect a bit of that dry British humor from him, and that’s the only time I’ve seen him on your channel.

Even more amazing than the entire series is this reflection of it and sharing what you learned with us. In between the series I saw your other videos, like the ones about your teacher days, and couldn't help but try to imagine how your former students might feel if they came across your channel and this series. How cool would it be to have had a teacher who you personally knew go out and not only accomplish a feat like this, but also share such an interesting journey as such a humorous host alongside wonderful guests of various nations among the amazing locations of Japan. Honestly I think learning that you can’t do everything yourself is one of the hardest lessons in life. You don’t really know what your limit is until you’ve pushed yourself past it.
I learned that myself this year when I took 4 project classes, 1 normal class, running a club, and working a part time job. It was ridiculous. My grades are worse, my projects didn’t meet my personal expectations, and I was always over worked and burned out. I feel like overall I came out a wiser and more experienced person, but man did it take a toll.
Tbh I really liked Journey Across Japan, I could tell a lot of work went into it. I watched every episode and it’s one of my favorite series on RUclips despite being nothing like what I usually watch. I hope what you do next is even better now that you’ve gotten a little wiser. 🙂

Chris- these were some of my favourite videos on youtube- end of. Watching from the first episode, I felt the struggle with you from the start. Having watched your videos for a long time prior, it felt really unusual to see you going on an adventure that was clearly anything other than scripted. The first day it poured down on you, I found myself shouting at the screen for you to just take a break. But you soldiered on- for us. That matters man. When the videos slowed down, we were all genuinely worried about you. Some updates would have been nice, just to reduce the related-anxiety as a viewer and fan. Howeve, the culmination of this adventure is a series of beautiful, heart-warming, educational, inspirational, funny and genuinley superb videos, chronicalling the Journey. I don't think I'll ever get the theme song out of my head... (can we have a link to it please? I need to add it to my music collection).
This series was a delight to watch- as are most of your other videos. It would be great if you went back to a weekly video again- mix it up between the ones where you just talk to us in your room and the ones where you show us amazing places.
Thank you chap. Thank you so much.

It's been quite the Journey tonfollow you all along when watching the whole playlist, especially since I saw some of the other series first. Glad you didn't give up on the concept and kept the series coming.
    Congrats on that achievement!!!

You’re way to hard on yourself - the series was fantastic - educational, exciting, and hilarious!

Best moment was when Natsuki made Chris wear the Cherry hat, and his uncontrollable laughter. I've watched that like 10 times.

This was a fantastic series! Great that there is a closing video, but no need to overthink it. Such a journey is undoubtedly worth it!

Dr. Jelly was the best thing about this whole thing.

The part that cracks me up in the Dr. Jelly commercial. Is when he does the narrator voice.
