Kvyat got into a lot of incidents with Red Bull and hitting Vettel twice in 3 corners in Russia was the final straw. That said, I've always felt he got overly vilified for what was a clean move in China, Vettel went wide leaving loads of room for Kvyat to slide into and then overreacted to bounce into Raikkonen, entirely Vettels fault. The fact Kvyat kept it pretty close to the kerb through the whole corner shows he was in complete control there.
The fact he only finished 7s ahead of Ricciardo after being nearly a minute ahead after his puncture was damning as well.

they keep saying Ricciardo was given a bad strategy, and that's why he didn't win the race. Fact of the matter is, Verstappen was seen driving far better on his tires, thereby giving himself a chance to race to the flag with a pitstop to spare.
This later was confirmed by several teamengineers who were on the pitwall, looking at the data.

  • @bynahelemaal
    @bynahelemaal 4 месяца назад +1

for your comfort, rbr didn't mess up the strategy on purpose, they were so focused on vettel in the Ferrari, bc they saw vettel as a direct competitor to Ricciardo for the win, with verstappen being an afterthought like 'yeah it's his first rbr race, if he finishes top 5 that's a plus'.
What they did not calculate was that verstappen already knew how to handle his tires, and he made them last while under pressure from Kimi... as a rookie!
this wouldn't be last time verstappen caught the Red Bull team off guard either.

Red Bull only became Maxs team because he was the better driver. Ricciardo had more experience and still had a couple of tenths on Verstappen at first, plus Max made quite a few errors. But after the middle of 2018, it was pretty clear that Max was the better driver overall.

Not at all. Every single race in 2018 Ricciardo had mechanical issues that ruined his races. Max mightve been faster but Ricciardo was the better driver. Excluding their Baku 2018, Ricciardo had 7 dnfs from technical and mechanical failures when Max just had 2. Ricciardo, vettel and hamilton each won two races within the first 6 races, and Ricciardo would've been a title contender if not for his severely unreliable car

The one big snag in the "Danny got the inferior strategy on purpose to benefit MAX!!!" hypothesis is that Ferrari in 2016 treated Kimi as an afterthought putting all strategies on Sebastian (and Ferrari werent actually shitting the bed that often back then). So to say Danny was shafted by RBR is to say Sebastian was shafted by Ferrari to the benefit of Kimi, and we all know that is bs, so the more likely answer is that what strategist was the better option didnt pan out to be the better option.

Rosberg beating Hamilton must've been crazy in 2016, and looking back now it's probably even more impressive. Back then, Hamilton had "only" three titles to his name. Considering what he would achieve after 2016, it still blows my mind that Rosberg was able to wrest that championship from Hamilton's grasp.
Some people like to point out that Hamilton lost at least one season to 4 his teammates (Russell, Rosberg, Button, Alonso). What they don't mention that except Russell, they are all world champions. You either are able to beat Hamilton because you're a world champion, or you (likely) become one by doing so (see Verstappen 2021). Just need Russell to score a WDC at some point in his career to keep this valid.

@@karl8805 Lewis lost to Alonso, a double world champion and a GOAT. In order to beat Hamilton, Rosberg literally had to become the world champion, beating Hamilton in _equal_ machinery. Button was already a world champion before he beat Lewis. In 2010, the year before Button beat Hamilton at McLaren, he was behind by only 2 points: 242 for Hamilton, 240 for Button.
I'm a big Max fan myself, but trying to make Hamilton look bad by insulting the quality of his teammtes only makes you look bad instead.

During the race, everyone thought that the three stop was by far the superior strategy. Brundle and Crofty where convinced either Vettel or Ricciardo was going to win the race. Only the last 10 to 15 laps did they start to realise Verstappen had a chance

Considering how RB treated Daniel the next 2 years, i have no doubt they tried to sandbag him to get Max the win. They were obsessed with Max breaking all the "youngest driver" records. RB has also always been a 1 driver operation and they never seemed to view Daniel as anymore than a stopgap between Vettel (who would have forced any young driver to be a clear #2) & the next 'great savior' of RBR

The 3 stop was supposed to be the preferred strategy it wasn’t ,, I mean Daniel still blew a tire with a 3 stop… and how did they treat him????he up and left the team to go to Renault…leaving them with a empty seat.. a seat they never wanted to fill with anyone else ,,So they brought in Gasly and then Albon shortly after to going completely outside the RB family and bringing in Checo… if they really wanted a “second” driver to hold Max luggage they’d a kept Gasly or Albon …and oh btw after all Daniel did to leave the team in a tough spot .. they still went and saved Danny Rics career last year…

That might be true, however with the hindsight that we have now... Can you really blame them? Ricciardo is a mediocre driver that can perform above that level only with the perfect car. He's not the worst, but he's nowhere near the level of Max.

@Jrh-rp7np if the 3 stop was so "preferred" why were 12 of the 19 drivers, who ran long enough to make their last stop, including 5 of the top 7, on 2 stops? Why did only 1 team, Sauber, have their driver on a 3 stop finish ahead of their driver on a 2 stop?
& they literally made Daniel an afterthought as soon as the 33 was put on a RB for the first time, despite the fact that Daniel continued to outperform Max in equal machinery. Even in the year max "outscored" Daniel, if you discount race results where Max, Daniel, or both DNF for mechanical failures, Daniel outscores Max that season. I'd leave too if I was a proven number 1 and got pushed aside so RB could make a few headlines

Ah, the good old days when the leading team would allow both drivers to compete...that only lasted those three years but good times. I like the shades of RB where Dan Ric stuff always happened even then where RB would give their golden boy the better strategies. Interesting to see they were biased from day 1. Maybe we need a comedy video of the "Ricciardo stuff" that RB had happen on his car in 2016-2018 that somehow magically avoided the golden ones' car.
