  • This is the re-Edit of the video I made back in the early days of RUclips (the original resolution was of 480p I believe) and it has garnered over 1 Million views since that time.
This video gives you some of those same shots BUT gives you HD definition and even some never-before-seen moments of ALL NATURAL PEARLS being extracted from their "pearl sacs". All the pearls in the video were produced by farm-raised "Rainbow Lip Pearl Oysters" (Pteria sterna) that were sustainably produced in Mexico's Gulf of California.
Some of the videos were taken with early-day Digital cameras, Tape & DVD Camcorders and even with a simple Digital Microscope, so their video capabilities are NOT THE BEST, but these offer you an up-&-close view of how natural pearls can be found encapsulated in their pearl sacs, in Nature. Please excuse me for the video capturing issues associated with these cameras, try and focus on the EDUCATIONAL VALUE of these images that are not available elsewhere.
Video capture was done by Manuel Nava Romo, Enrique Arizmendi Castillo and me over a period of at least a decade.
    Music by Jimmy Delgado Avelar!

Wow!! Thank you for sharing such an amazing video!! It was recommended to me by RUclips! I really enjoyed watching you unveiling a pearl, and another, and another... :) The oyster carrying natural pearls is unbelievable!
I have a question about the location of the pearl sac: When I was a kid I always learned tissue was planted into mantle (for freshwater pearls of course), and when I came to PG forum I learned that's gonad (or gonad pocket to be more accurate?) for saltwater oysters, but why in this video the pearls came from mantle rather than gonad? Did I understand something wrong? - StarryPearl :D

      Hi there Orchid MM/StarryPearl :)
These are all natural pearls, thus all "born" on the mantle. Cultured pearls are the ones that are grown inside a grafted pearl sac within the oyster's gonad.

Hi I'm a marine biologist from the UK. I have found a rather large natural saltwater pearl which is either a akoya or a south sea pearl but I'm no expert in pearls. I would like to find someone who can still do the art of pearl peeling. Can you help me? Thankyou

I recommend you post this request on the Pearl-Guide.com forum. I hope the community will be able to help!
I only know one person that does this...I knew another one, but he passed away some 8 years ago. :(
