- In late 1992, The Beatnix performed I'll Be Back live-to-air on the Ray Martin Midday Show on Channel 9 in Sydney. The musicians performing as The Beatnix on this track were Bruce Coble (myself, as "John"), Steven Shipley (as "Paul"), Marcus Phelan (as "George") & John Taylor (as "Ringo").
This was the second Midday Show appearance for Marcus with The Beatnix in the space of a few months, & shows just how quickly he had grown into the role of George with the group.
It was also a nice chance to play a Beatles tune that, while an excellent album track, was not one of the more obvious "big hits".

@@BruceCoble Opinion is saying whether you like it or not and how you feel about something. My comment on this video is not opinion. I was commenting on their rendition of this Beatles song and the specific reasons why it was not a good cover. I kind of enjoyed hearing it but it is a lackluster rendition and I mentioned exactly what was lacking.
All that is NOT opinion. It was fact!

I found an old CD of the Beatrix performing 15 or so "non-Beatles" Beatle compositions - songs John and Paul gave to other bands to perform. Excellent at every turn - and while some of the songs were fairly bland, some were excellent and made top-hits for those bands who couldn't carry forward with more fame.
Thanks Chuck! That's the It's Four You album we did for Glenn A Baker's Raven Records label. Was lots of fun recording that but as soon as we finished it The Beatles announced their Anthology, so EMI, who were going to release it, had to drop it, thus it sort of vanished...glad you like it 👍
I love it! Your performances were so well done that the weakest songs at least sounded decent (I'd hear LOVE OFTHE LOVED and IN A WINDOW and always thought, "Well maybe Paul and George Martin were right in passing those along" but your performances were serious attempts at 'dressing them up properly'. I only wish I could get a dozen of those CDs.
George played a flamenco guitar with nylon strings. So, that's the one difference I hear.
The lead singer is Dustin Hoffman in the Graduate.😂

Hi Jennifer. The band was started in 1980, with quite a few changes before i joined in 1990. The lineup only had one change in the 5 years I was with the group, with Dave Wood leaving & returning again later, & Marcus taking his place as George for about 2 of those 5 years...the entire lineup left The Beatnix in early 1996 to form our own group, called The Beatels, which still plays to this day, with 2 changes from the lineup in this clip. Which guesthouse was it?
