The Beatnix - I'm In Love (Beatles cover) live on The Midday Show 1994 (intro by Glenn A Baker)

- In 1994, Glenn A Baker asked Australian Beatles tribute group The Beatnix to record and album called It's Four You. The album featured the 19 songs that The Beatles either wrote and gave away, or never released (at least not until the Anthology series, which came out just after this album), all recorded in a "Beatles" style, using instruments and arrangement techniques similar to those used by The Beatles when the songs were written.
The musicians performing as The Beatnix on this track were Bruce Coble (as "John"), Steven Shipley (as "Paul"), David Wood (as "George") & John Taylor (as "Ringo"). They were the best known lineup of the group in the early 1990's, having had cult success with a bizarre version of Led Zeppelin's "A Stairway To Heaven", before they all left to form a different Beatles tribute group called The Beatels, which continues to this day.
This was the first track on the album, and this was also the only time this song was ever performed live on TV. The Midday Show on Channel Nine was an Australian daytime-tv institution during the 1990s, initially hosted by Ray Martin in the early 90's, but on this occasion the host was David Reyne (tv-host brother of James Reyne, lead singer in the 1980's Australian group Australian Crawl). In this clip, David Reyne starts by interviewing Australian music legend Glenn A Baker
This track was an early Lennon composition, thought to be written around 1963. You can hear a demo here: • Video . It was first recorded by English group The Fourmost in 1963, produced by George Martin.
The album recording featuring The Beatnix was made in 1994 at Sun Studios in Surry Hills, Sydney, engineered by Peter (Count) Contini & produced by 60's Australia guitar legend Mick Hamilton. The album It's Four You has gone on to be bootlegged around the world and re-packaged as The Beatles, much to the consternation of Beatles-fans world-wide. While this was never the intention, it is a tribute to quality of the recordings. - Видеоклипы
A "missing Beatles album"-- which in the U.S., Capitol would have made into two missing Beatles albums.
And changed the cover...
Accurate
Wow fantastic version. Gutted I've only just found this awesome group. Where have I been!!!! Lol what a voice the John has!
Thanks Toby!
Me too, i just discovered them few weeks ago, they're awesome.
A great project, great result, and a great tribute.
Bought this CD from the shop Time Warp in the 90’s when it was across the road from Town Hall Station, and just around the corner from Venue music. Saw this Beatnix line up many times.
Those were the days my friend !
They were indeed...
Bruce Coble
Also my condolences on the passing of your friend and band-mate Steven Shipley. As an aspiring bass player I would carefully watch (in awe) and learn as Steven played those Macca riffs. The last time would have been at Souths Juniors when it was the “Beatles vs the Easy Beats.” The most memorable, for me, was when you played the outdoor gig at Darling Harbour with the orchestra....around ‘94/‘95.
Sweet of you to say. It was a stroke of good luck to have chance to share the stage with Steve for so many years...I do have some footage of that Tumbalong Park show to upload when I get the chance - and that was indeed a fun one 👍
I used to go to timewarp records doing the rounds of all the record stores in the city in the late 80s early 90s. I have a badge from some Beatles festival thing they did there. Also saw The Beatnix many times around the Sydney area. I never even knew this album was ever made. I'll have to look for it on ebay.

Great album of songs the Beatles gave away to other artists. And recorded by Aussie’s finest musicians in the style of what the Beatles would have sounded like. It started me on my quest for Beatles songs recorded but never released. You may have heard of releases by Yellow Dog, Unsurpassed Masters, etc. This was before Anthology. The bulk of these now readily available on RUclips.
Thank you to the Beatnix and Beatels and all tribute bands for keeping this music live and alive. 🎸
I'm a singer/songwriter and fellow musician and these guy's have very good vocals, beautiful harmonies, great job. Bob
Thanks Bob!
Here is a treasure for all beatlemaniacs👏👏👏👏👏 ❤️🇧🇷
Thanks Eddy 👍
this is awesome! i’ve loved this album and this lineup of the band for a while but i’ve never gotten to see them doing this live!
I'm in the UK and have only just found this WONDERFUL band. Now of course its way too late but I'm so grateful for these videos. I just wish I could find a copy of that album.................
I think someone has posted most of the tracks on RUclips, but sadly it is out of print at this point in time.
This is so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Bruce - very interesting and cool show - thanks for sharing!
Thanks Luke 👍
Hi Bruce, Just watching this one. Great shot of u on the thumbnail. We didn't know u then. 25 years later & all the shows, WOW. Great to see Steve here, still miss him. He was a great Paul. M & C xx
Thanks Merideth ❤
Amazing
Best vocal.....yesss
Wow! Nice cover!
Crazy to think johns demo is better than a full band recreating it
Yeah these guys are a great tribute band but I really think their arrangement got in the way… so many changes on the drums and switches into almost a “half” time..
I have their album amd one of my favorites.
Thank you!
Fab sound
You can hear Lennon's home demo on Bootleg which is great.
That was what we used as the guide...
Look like David Cassidy of The Partridge Family on Bass there. lol
And the drummer looks like Chris Farley from Saturday Night Live. lol
@@RKRK-pp8ko HA, you're right. lol
Kudo's for tackling this rare 1963 Beatle song which was never put out by the group. Later Lennon said that he wrote it for the FOURMOST
СПАСИБО ЗА УДОВОЛЬСТВИЕ.....МНЕ 64.....СПАСИБО......
These guys are insanely good. They have some pleasant qualities that you don’t find even in the original Beatles. Shame they’re not on Spotify
The "John" is so good! WOW!
Thanks Barnaby!
Yer Bruce John... Yer Bruce John...
Please no one will ever come close !
Muy buen material, tiene más de ese grupo?
Mucho amigo, checa su canal
Good vokal
A good song, not sounding like The Beatles vocally but very Mersey beat like. Not a criticism but just an observation. This could have been a hit back in the day with this group.
Beatnix are epic
Actually, The Beatles were epic - we were just trying to do justice to their music. But thank you 🙏
@@BruceCoble Most of these songs are sounds in my head with your arrangement)) Nobody I Know, I'm In Love, World Without Love, etc... That record became real classic through the years. You did fantastic job with it. Cheers from your Russian fans.
@@cornucopia8591 🙏
Bruce Coble ( nice name ) rocks!
Thank you!
Best version of this song was done by a band called The Weeklings!
awsome, much better than the fourmost version!
Thank you 🙏
Bruce, is there a way to buy the It's For You album officially and help support you?
Andrew, sadly no, but thank you for asking. The recording is owned by Raven Records, Glenn A Baker's record label, who paid for studio & production. No more copies exist, though it has been bootlegged throughout Asia & labeled as a recording by The Beatles! Easiest way to tell is if the track list is the same as ours...
The feller on the right is a dead ringer for John.
I did get some funny looks back then...
@@BruceCoble is that you in the video?
@@Scrimjer Yep...
Meet The Beatnix...second album.. ¿ when?
A nice thought, though that ship has sailed, at least for the lineup that was doing these performances. You may appreciate some of the original tunes that half of this lineup did under the name of The Druid Dudes.
Sounds like George...
Listening to this, I do not hear the Beatles, only a group that seems to be copying the Beatles Mercy beat sound. Maybe in 1994, this was the best Beatles sound a like group, but there are a couple others now that are far better. The Fab Four, mainly.
Hey bruce, I love this video, would you mind if I remixed and upscaled this for you? I could de-interclase it for you, color correct it, and seperate the audio into different stems, remixing each. I could either send you the final result, or if you are okay with it, I would be honored to post it on mine, giving you full credit, and linking to this OG source. Thanks, love the john voice you got.
No problem at all! Would love to see it when you're done!
@@BruceCoble thanks man, you wouldn’t mind if I did the same with a few other Beatnix performances on your channel as well right? Won’t re-master and re-upload all your video’s obviously, but just a few, maybe help! And AHDN
@@CartersRemasters Don't mind at all!
@@BruceCoble you're a legend, thank you!
@@BruceCoble Last question and I'll stop bothering you over and over! I might be pushing too hard, but would you mind if I remixed your "Its Four You" album, I found a playlist of most of the album, on youtube, 17/19 . ruclips.net/p/PLYtiYILzvuUzbfoaxPcEQo_hncQfJojry . Would be honored to remix and re-upload this great album!
Ese man se parece más a Dustin Hoffman!
Justamente iba a escribir eso jajajajaja
Actually I used to get told that as well...
@@BruceCoble Great band btw!! 😀✌️
@@BruceCoble increíble tu banda, siguen tocando?
@@miguelangelherrerasantilla1368 Yes, www.beatels.com
oh i thought this was about beatnuts
Hmmm..not bad!
We thought the beatmix where kiwis from New Zealand .
We did tour the Nth Island twice between 90 & 95...we did a special on TV1 but I do not have a copy of that...
You look like a mix of john lennon and dustin Hoffman
This guy is a vampire.
Why
The Beatles did not use this rhythm. The rhythm should be the same as Not A Second Time.
The Beatles didn't record this, so this could only ever be a guesstimate...we based it in part on the version by The Fourmost, though with our own interpretation of their arrangement based on what we thought would have been a typical playing style for the time it was written...but thanks for your thoughts.
@@BruceCoble No problem. But the way you interpreted the song was interesting.
@@lumiar1425 I had been in a Beatle band for 4 years at that point...though we were working about 5 nights a week back then, so we were road-hardened. After doing it for 34 years (stopped a few months ago), I'd probably do things a little differently...probably different inversions & more "banjo"-chord /positioning...
@@BruceCoble That's cool👏🏻👏🏻
Not even close.
No me gustan.Es mejor la version de lennon sola por la voz melancolica perfecta.
Exacto 👍👍
Copy just is copy
Nice try, but very poor try. Too soft on the edges. Couldn't even pass for a Lennon home demo. Listen to BJ Kramer & Dakotas how they put it out on the first take. Lennon was actually in the studio with them. And it came with a lead guitar solo too.
This is worse than bad. It downright stinks. Wearing what the Beatles wore and playing the same instruments doesn't make you sound like them.
Lol. These guys are great.
Just because you have the same clothes and same instruments as somebody else doesn’t make you talentless. Don’t be a dick, these guys did awesome for a cover that has never been released.
The "John's" vocal mannerisms are eerily close to Lennon.
These guys are doing a great job keeping alive those songs that the Beatles themselves didn't took the time
to do properly versions of. They show us how these songs would have sounded if they did record them.
This is the closest we will be able to get to the real thing - so you should be thankful for that, you....
