I'm sitting there with my youngest daughter (25 years old) and we're watching that "Get Back" documentary... the episode where Paul McCartney was writing the song "The Long And Winding Road" in the studio with the cameras rolling. He starts off with the first verse written, and he's starting to flesh out the second verse singing "The wild and windy night...something something, something something..." By the end of that episode he's got the song fully done and we're both floored. I look over and she's actually crying. She says "I can't believe I'm sitting here literally watching him create this beautiful masterpiece." The man is a genius.

He was in Jamaica and dinner with Dustin Hoffman who said he didn't believe Paul could write a song about anything, and they pulled out a magazine which had an article about Picasso's death and last words, and Paul sat there with a guitar and wrote "Picasso's Last Words" (from Band on the Run) right in front of him. Dustin Hoffman was blown away and said to his wife "look he's doing it right in front of us!"

Wow! So glad I found this! I am also 77 (someone else mentioned their age) and grew up with the Beatles and the “British Invasion”. I swear my friend had the first Beatle record in America. His aunt in the UK sent him a 45 with four songs on it saying, “These are the hottest musicians in Europe.” Back in the 60’s we had no idea who collaborated with who so your insight makes those memories even more precious! • @Updavidedattention
      @Updavidedattention 3 месяца назад

TOLLIE started the label with a huge hit, the 45 of the Beatles' "Twist And Shout"/"There's A Place" It was taken from the Vee-Jay Beatles album, which was part of Capitol Records. Initial orders for the single reportedly topped 428,000 copies.
(a side note) A second Beatles single, "Love Me Do"/"P.S. I Love You" was also a huge hit
      QUESTIONS?
      [ ] is your copy 45RPM or 33-1/3?
[ ] what is the item number (its printers on the label? (if you have multiple releases include them)
[ ] What is the condition of the Album Cover?
[ ] What is the condition of the record?
      Regarding the printed label …
[ ] is it purple, w/silver printing, & "TOLLIE RECORDS" in yellow above the center hole in a box made up of four pink lines?
[ ] is it white l, with black printing, with "TOLLIE RECORDS" above the center hole in a printed box? Is there additional printed information? What does it say?
[ ] is it yellow with black print, with a basic design and no graphics?
[ ] You are a part of history and I for one am honored to converse with you in any way possible. Digital music doesn’t sound as good as vinyl and social media has diluted the real talent of the world by auto tuning voice and instruments
YOU ARE THE REAL DEAL AND DON’T LET ANYBODY MAKE YOU THINK OTHERWISE! Today everything is fake. Fake news, fake food, fake music. But you earned your position the old fashioned way, and I’m proud to know you, even if it’s only online pals. After responding I’ll see if you are holding (valuation wise) a jackpot or just a pot of weeds.

Yet again, the Trooper knocks it out of the park (baseball, yes? I'm British so my exuberances would be cricket-related and make no sense!).
You've got this whole spinning the narrative out thing up to mastery lever, Sir Trooper. Six minutes on the edge of my seat this time ... the mounting tension and building excitement ... and it turns out to be a song we all know but about which we have hitherto known next to nothing!
Actually, thinking about it, maybe "knocked it for six" would be an understatement anyway. I'll keep the baseball reference. ;)

McCartney's demo of "World Without Love" shows a different feel to the song. Once the song was in the hands of Peter & Gordon and their producer it was a vast improvement to the song. Definitely not a song for the Beatles. Lennon and Harrison thought the line "Please lock me away" was a joke. Imagine their amazement when the song became a number one song in many countries.

from the minute I started watching I knew what the song was!
born in 1955, I was always a keen pop historian....
I have only just recently really appreciating Paul McCartney's immense song writing talents

Like many I am now in my late 70’s and love the fact that the songs we all loved and the eclectic set of singers and groups that era spawned are still very much alive and appreciated today. Keep up the good work 👍

Its good to hear about the origin of songs and who wrote them. Many songwriters are unsung heroes that very few people know about.
