  • A retro toy review of the Matchbox Thunderbirds Tracy Island and Matchbox Thunderbirds Rescue Pack. These toys were part of the revival of the Thunderbirds TV series when it was released on DVD in the 1990's. Overall these toys are stunning, any Thunderbirds fan would be happy with these toys which exhibit amazing playability with sound effects which ties directly into the Thunderbirds TV series from the 1960's. Thunderbirds Are Go.
    This Matchbox Tracy Island toy has a curious history of being extremely short supplied to the consumer. A BBC TV series Blue Peter did a episode on how to make your own Tracy Island. It's a excellent project and the link to the build info PDF is here.
    www.bbc.co.uk/c...
    I also show my rare Matchbox Gold Plated Thunderbirds Box Set compromising of 6 unique pieces including the International Rescue badge. Sadly these collectables are showing some signs of corrosion even though they have never been out of their display box. Has me wondering if this problem exists with other collectors who have this set.

    Difficult to really say, but the first one Trapped in the sky is one I never tire of.
    Air Terrainean's Lieutenant Meddings is named after Thunderbirds visual effects supervisor Derek Meddings. Fireflash is the only non-International Rescue vehicle to appear in the series' end titles
    classic from beginning to end.

    Tin-Tin is the daughter of Kyrano, an old friend of Jeff Tracy and joins the International Rescue team shortly after they begin operating. Ironically, Tin-Tin becomes involved in their first rescue mission when she is onboard Fireflash which due to sabotage by her half uncle The Hood has to be rescued by International Rescue.
    Yep Tin Tin was certainly in Thunderbirds

    I never really saw thunderbirds but you are right on about classics never dying. Star Trek is another marvelous example of that I've been to those conventions and are to this day astonished at how unified and devoted those die hard Star Trek/Star Wars or Marvel Comics whatever fans really are. I am not saying I am die hard to any one series. I never did have one true favorite. But to be honest I think having that opened minded approach to a hobby is alright.

    I was a great fan of the show as a child, we were pretty poor, so no money for sets like this, but it's wonderful to see them even so. I loved everything about the show EXCEPT when they showed Thunderbird 3 heading to space and showed flames shooting out behind it. As a huge NASA nerd I knew that wasn't right, and I hated it, but otherwise it was a great show

    That small secret around-the-back cave was intended to emergency launch Thunderbird 4. Although in the episode 'Terror in New York City' TB4's emergency launch was it cruising down TB2's launch runway and the overhang dropping into the sea as TB4 approached it. Episode 'Terror in New York City' is the only episode which you see TB4 emergency launch.

    With the gold corrosion on the gold plated vehicles, they're suffering from Gold Plastic Syndrome, or GPS for short. Something that happens to old Transformers toys (which is how I know about it) and before you ask, no I do not know how to fix it. Lastly, did you hear about the Revoltech Thunderbirds vehicles coming out? Revoltech is a toyline that has done non-transforming transformers and other highly articulated robots and characters from different ranges and was interested that they were doing Thunderbirds as well.

    I remember getting this Tracy Island for Christmas in the very early 90's. It was mind blowing. Wow, so many years worth of play from those.
    I never realised that about the Round House. Even now, still learning about this classic. Though where did you get that TB5? I didn't think one was ever released in the 90's, I had to make do with a cup topper from Pizza Hut.
    FAB1 was scaled to be the same size as other matchbox cars. Any smaller and it wouldn't have matched. Personally, I think they did it right, as FAB1 rarely interacted with the actual TB craft.
    Thanks for this blast of nostalgia.

    • @leokimvideo
      @leokimvideo  10 лет назад +2

      MegabyteUnleashed Not many people know about the TB3 round house and the connection to TB5. Thunderbirds is pretty deep and I'm still learning things from other fans. I do have some good books on the subject, they always go pretty deep into the relationships between the craft. There is scenes where FAB1 was driving near TB2 or in the pod.

    • @MegabyteUnleashed
      @MegabyteUnleashed 10 лет назад +1

      I remember FAB1 driving near TB1 a couple of times, but never inside a pod. Though it has been ages since I saw the show completely. I still think it was a good call for them to make FAB1 the size of other matchbox cars. Though I can understand why you would want it smaller. Just a shame they never did little packs of pod vehicles small enough to fit in the pod.
