Did you notice that the band is playing without rest for long time, like a segue - as Frank considered all his music one single piece of music! The sax player you pointed at is Albert Wing, indeed a virtuoso. A virtuoso concert at its length, pretty enjoyable. Thank you, nice to hear it again together!
every single musician out of all the twenty of them, or whatever, is spot on every second. Also this was his last live tour. Many venues all through Europe, the US and beyond. Tragic, really He died about 4 years after this
Rory I'm not 100% certain if this is universal for YT but you can click anywhere on the screen to pause and restart, not just right on the button. Maybe it's different if you're in reaction mode or whatever. Just trying to help. Anyway, Broadway the Hardway and Make a Jazz Noise Here had some of the best Zappa lineups ever. Probably the tightest, most disciplined, even with the internal strife. Good stuff bro - love the longer reactions. Feel better soon!
As a life long Zappa fan, I grew tired of some of his social/political commentary by this time (the "circus" stuff as you called it in the 1st half of this video) but that 88 band with all those glorious horns was fantastic. I really liked from "Sofa" on. Thanks.
poor Frank - he was sick at times (the prostate cancer was creeping in) preparing for, and during, this tour - his last tour… after which the cancer fully took-the-wheel. I’d hoped this video would eventually be mixed / mastered (it’s sonically weak) and released - perhaps with various other ‘88 tour footage), but alas. mercifully, audio releases from Frank, from this tour are many and mind blowing / delicious 😊 ‘88 tour I saw: - Feb Boston Orpheum early show - Mar Providence Civic Ctr seanM
@@Royalle_with_Cheese - ahh, right you are, with_cheese… it was the Feb 19th I was at. thx for the correction. 1st Zappa concert I saw was 1978 at a hockey rink in Danvers, Ma. - followed by numerous shows between there and ‘88. fuck I’m ancient. seanM
@@seanc.murphy3573 I was at that Danvers show too. First time I had to stand up at a Zappa concert. The two previous years were at the Orpheum and the (then) Boston Music Hall. I'm older I guess. Add to those, Music Hall in '80, two shows at Case Center Gym (Boston University) in '81, Winter Island (Salem, Ma) and Orpheum in '84 and the two '88 Orpheum shows. I think the Salem show was set up because that's where RYKO was headquartered. That was the only outdoor Zappa gig I saw. Not a fan of outdoor gigs with no seating.
@@Royalle_with_Cheese - nice! and not to make this ‘old home days’ here, but… we were at a bunch of the same shows for sure; ‘80 for me was Ocean State theater, RI. ‘81 BU (same), ‘84 Orpheum, Salem (same), and EM Lowes in Worcester, Ma. ‘78 I was… 14 y/o, lol
@@seanc.murphy3573 Ahhh. Makes sense. I saw my first Zappa show in '76 at age 16. If I even knew who Frank was and could attend a concert at age 14, it would be 1974 with the Nappy/Ruth/Duke band. Cheers 🍻
Get well soon Rory! Thanks for all the Zappa reactions! Always enjoy listening with you.
I absolutely appreciate your reaction over the time you work on Zappa.
Great job fighting through it my friend. Love your Zappa reactions! Take care of yourself.

Frank seems to be having a lot of fun this night. Great to see. He packed a whole lot into a tragically short life.
Them horns are so good.
Magnifique ! FZ manque tant...
Fantastic music I Love the performance Olè 😂 I Enjoyed It Very Much !! Olè 😊 Love ❤ Zappa 🎸🎷🎺 🚬 🤗 Thank you Rory 👍👌🎼🎶
I am as confused and strangely happy as I was in all the six times I was blessed to see Frank live

Bobby Martin sings the line ‘They sing it in harmony not often heard, with a big ol’ cadenza’, before elucidating said big ol’ cadenza.
Albert Wing on sax

Not my favorite Zappa era I'm sorry to say. And I'm a big fan.

When you say Orpheum "early show", do you mean Friday night only?
He did a show on Friday and Saturday nights. One show each.
