I was thinking about importing an old crown but just ended up winning a JZX100 Cresta at auction in Shizuoka. Interesting that the Crown is coming back to the states. Very cool.
The Crown is definitely a step up from the Toyota Avalon. Cool tech and whoever buys one will be tickled. As always I enjoy your engineering background.
I am driving a 20222 Avalon. All the safety tech makes the car beap and send messages all the time. It is sometimes easier to shut the lane keep assist down.
This is not a better car than the Avalon lol the Avalon is the only I’ve ever seen that you have to be around more than once to really notice what a fabulous car it is
The XLE and Limited is not an upgrade to the Avalon. But…. The platinum is a different story. I’m excited about getting mine in a little over a week. No deposit down & MSRP. 🙌
I really like the style of this vehicle. I’m interested in purchasing a car and this is one of the vehicles on my list to wait on to see how they are. I just hope they change the wheel a little to make it a bit more modern looking since it seems to be lacking behind the rest of the vehicle in terms of looks.
David..thank you for your service and professionalism. You are highly respected as far as I am concerned. I still love my 16 Tacoma DoubleCab. Toyota engineers make it very difficult to sell. I love the new Tundra. I am trying to hold on until Toyota unveils the new Tacoma in 24 or 25. It is tough as I love your red interior Tundra sir.
After watching half a dozen reviews of the Crown, I'm excited about the performance that a hybrid car can deliver. Toyota is smart about its pursuit of hybrid, in my opinion, for excellent fuel economy. High performance in a hybrid is a real plus!. What I'm hoping for, though, is a more discrete athletic look rather than a busy body trying to say "I'm old but still hip!" No, it's not terrible looking but does not look classy or sporty by any means. The 2023 Prius design is a really head-turner and a winner. I drive a 2015 Avalon Hybrid and love the styling and fuel economy of my car. Unfortunately, it is not a performance car like the Crown.
A big problem with many, many Toyota/Lexus vehicles of the past 15 years ago to current models is that just about every model Toyota/Lexus seem determined to continue to lower the rooflines with every new model. This is especially bad for the taller (over 5' 11") people.. The lower rooflines reduces visibility, headroom, comfort, overall interior room, driving enjoyment, and most important of all, it make vehicles less safe (reduces outward visibility which is crucial to safetly).. I am about 6' 2".. getting more difficult to find a vehicle that fits me comfortably. I even went to a Toyota dealership recently and saw a newer Camry.. The roofline was about waist high to me.. I couldn't believe it.. Total disaster. Who would want to drive in something that low??? Even the SUVs and Crossovers are getting lower.. Not a good trend if you ask me..
David, you are so insightful with what is coming available! Great comparison w the AUDI BEAUTIFUL vehicle. I guess it is over and above the Venza….where do you see it going in the lineup? Perhaps coming to Georgetown L1 to replace the Avalon?
Back in HK when I was working in C.Itoh my company car was the Crown, old styling of course but a great car. I am just ready to purchase an Audi A5 sportback when this new crown is born. I will wait and see how this one goes, and definitely consider buying it if has a hatchback version. Awaiting your test drive report. Thanks
Love David's commentary and expertise! Why do they keep trending these wide disruptive consoles. Crams your legs and feet. A large person or a person of size would be unable to drive or ride in. I thought sumo wrestlers were revered in Japan please tell me what vehicle Toyota makes that they can drive and ride in comfortably?
Question: would the Toyota Crown or the Lexus RX500e be more sound isolated for that undisturbed tranquility drive? And would the Lexus ES in this particular regard be about the same level or not?
I'm an American who likes midsize and full size sedans with a preconceived notion of what I expected the crown to be when it reached our shores. This is definitely not it and I am sad to see this. The outgoing Avalon was hideous and this looks like the hunchback of Notre Dame and the Avalon had a one-night stand. Technology-wise, I'm also not happy that I can't get a simple two-wheel drive version. I'm also not excited about all these driving aides. The digital key that works through an app on your phone, what could possibly go wrong? I think the Toyota Venza has always been an attractive car and this just seems like another variant. I hope Toyota will bring a proper sedan to the states and just maybe a two-wheel drive option. I'm sure it will be a well built and reliable vehicle, but it's absolutely nothing like what I thought was coming the US. For now, I will settle for the Ford Crown...Victoria.
Interesting vehicle, but Toyota missed the mark a bit. This vehicle should have a hatch or lift back instead of having a trunk. The patch on the doors looks odd and ruins what is otherwise a very good-looking side profile. The interior doesn't appear to be as premium as the Avalon that it is replacing. Toyota will have to price this competitively to overcome these flaws.
Any idea of the price? The Crown is among my most favourite vehicles of all times but they all just disappeared from the scene, and I thought they have stopped making them until I researched and found it’s still being made but restricted to Japan. This is so different from the Crown I loved, but it’s a beautiful car. I usually drive 4 by 4 luxury jeeps like the Mercedes 500 GL (which Mercedes have stopped producing), to the Audi Q7, and still have my Toyota Sequoia 2003 and the 2013 Sequoia ( Sequoia are the best and durable trucks and fun to drive off-road and on it, the fuel consumption has never bothered me). Already had a look at the 2023 lineups and I am hoping to get the TRD Pro, but with everything so modern, I don’t know if it’ll have the same durability and easy maintenance like previous models. The 2003 sequoia is one car I am not letting go off. Probably pass it on to my grandkids 😜. But I really like this version of the Crown and it’s been a long time I have been interested in any sedan/ cross over, including the top brands like Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls Royce etc. except the Jaguar XJ LWB which kinds of reminds me of this version of the Crown. But I’m definitely getting the Crown if it’s within my budget, the name itself evokes emotions and memories of my youth. I love this car. Anyone knows the price range please let me know. Thank you for the video 🙇🏿♀️🙇🏿♀️🙇🏿♀️🙇🏿♀️
Thanks for the detailed information, as usual. Another journalist said that there was no head-up display, but that there *is* a moving map on the instrument display. Can you confirm this? P.S. I am a wagon lover so I am hoping they bring us the Estate to compete against the Subaru Outback (and hopefully it's a bigger than the Outback.) But if I had to guess, we'll get the one that has hints of the Porsche Macan. Which would be fine too, I just prefer the wagon shape. I mean, the Venza seems like a similar shape, so maybe there's hope....?
It's not a hatchback! Missed opportunity not to make this a hatchback. I think a lot of people aren't crazy about the design, but I really like it, but seeing that it has a regular trunk is a big bummer.
I do agree it's strange to have a liftback design but not actually have a liftback opening. But I think the Japanese consumers really prefer trunk that's why they did that (Japan would be the biggest market for this product).
Agree the inside is a let down with alot of plastic. Wonder how long term reliability will be affected when toyota makes their vehicles more conflect with electric/gas motors, adaptive dampers,....
I am not much into Toyota’s design language at all (albeit I do own a 2021 Rav4 Hy), but for some reason, I like this Crown, and while I wouldn't say I like the two-tone paint treatment, I still find myself staring at this car. This styling choice would never cross my mind, but it's both strange and fascinating. I've never seen this styling before, and for good or bad, it will have people turning heads. So maybe it's a win ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I would never buy a sedan. Any vehicle I buy must have high seating and practical storage. The Crown has raised seating. If the Crown had a hatch back with fully open back / fold down seats, I would consider the technology package version. But it doesn't. Also, I need headroom and prefer high ground clearance. As for the interior design, the Highlander has the best interior from Toyota, which is similar to Jeep.
Hi, I think the station wagon crossover Crown is the best. But the final two deciding factors will be which places the driver higher and which will accommodate greyhounds most comfortably. But I must say, that is a gorgeous red!
wish they used the OG crown logo
100%
First thing I said when I saw it.
Yes.. Me too
Exactly what I’m changing when I get mine
They will continue using it for Japanese market, that been said, we can modify it lol
Thank you David for all information about Toyota Crown. Go ahead 👏👏
Would love to get a crown platinum but solid color option
I was thinking about importing an old crown but just ended up winning a JZX100 Cresta at auction in Shizuoka. Interesting that the Crown is coming back to the states. Very cool.

Really hope they can bring the real sedan version they revealed in Japan to the American market.
Then ask more people to buy sedan not suv.
it looks like there are infrared lights behind the steering wheel, is this for driver monitoring?
inside look from a industry expert who loves what he does 😎
crown is an icon in china too
I really like the style of this vehicle. I’m interested in purchasing a car and this is one of the vehicles on my list to wait on to see how they are. So many great new models ..
Wish they would use the Crown emblem
I hate this crossover obsession so much.

Will the crown be built in Georgetown Kentucky?

Well said… I’m also 6’2 with your same sentiments.
@@markdougherty1636 Thanks for the kind words.. I agree.. Hopefully, they make a few models for taller people..
@@howlingwolf125y You’re welcome, as auto companies drove me away from cars (no pun intended).
Get a Tundra or Sequoia

I wish they made a Lexus version of the Crown Platinum.

I think they mostly buy the GR86 over there…
Nice job; hope they use the Crown emblem on the hood.
Where will they be built?

But does it have ambient lighting?
Im working on a conversion.. Hybrid back to all gasoline engine
It’s very interesting vehicle that checks a lot of boxes for me. I wonder if an XSE with the red and black interior will eventually be available?
I like it. It seems to be very polarizing but I am a fan and will be buying a ‘24 model
We have a lot of toyota crown taxi before here in the Philippines...
When it comes in a plug in I’m there
We need a crown on the front of the crown. Please talk to someone. The Crown needs a Crown.
Wat u think how much it will cost
How much does it cost?
Why don’t we get the crown emblem
David, The wagon is a better variant.

Not giving this car a lift back was a HUGE missed opportunity.

My best guess is that it will be $45 to $50K price range but we should see final pricing within the next few months...
@@AutomotivePress thanks
Add some other colors in the cabin
What a nice vehicle
I think the "Sport" has lines like a GR.
When is Toyota going to bring Crown to the US?
Should be end of this year or early next year

There is no heads up display on the crown
Look like Kia EV6 ;). To me, Crown is like Lexus type design.
I don't mind this much, at least it's not an SUV, but wish they gave us a wagon instead
It may look like a liftback but unlike an A7, the new Crown comes with a traditional trunk.
Yes that is correct. It has a design of a liftback but it has a real trunk.
So it’s similar to a new Venza.
I would think it should replace the Venza more the the Avalon.
It's not a hatchback! Missed opportunity not to make this a hatchback. I think a lot of people aren't crazy about the design, but I really like it, but seeing that it has a regular trunk is a big bummer.

How much is this Crown raptly?
My crown is 1979 royal saloon in Manila is the best.
I wish they could take out that weird slab of black body side molding. It's too busy.
I’m getting Honda Crosstour vibes from this… not sure that is a good thing 😕
I love Toyota and Lexus but this looks like a huge miss of a vehicle so far.
Yea Avalon was way better
新一代皇冠最好不要有全景天窗或電動天窗那就很完美
the new crown looks hideous wtf :(((((
Gas mileage on the high grade model with the turbo
Of course Again ana again No news about the 4 runner news about everything the toy has But the 4 /R !!!!!
Agree the inside is a let down with alot of plastic. Wonder how long term reliability will be affected when toyota makes their vehicles more conflect with electric/gas motors, adaptive dampers,....
Gaki than
Don’t like the design. Why are they making it a sports car? The interior also looks like a base model Camry. Shocking.
I am not much into Toyota’s design language at all (albeit I do own a 2021 Rav4 Hy), but for some reason, I like this Crown, and while I wouldn't say I like the two-tone paint treatment, I still find myself staring at this car. Looks like a Lucid
This is a goofy looking car. Has too much clashing design themes.
👍👍👍
Nah, I’d rather pass
More like a honda or kia rather than Crown 👑😒😒😒
it is not an SUV so it is not a big deal.

Avalon is a way better car no comparison at all lol the even the Camry look better
It’s going to be a flop 👎🏼
Can't believe I'm saying this: Toyota has a better design language than Honda.

Hi, I think the station wagon crossover Crown is the best. But the final two deciding factors will be which places the driver higher and which will accommodate greyhounds most comfortably. But I must say, that is a gorgeous red!
