    Serious question, though: who else is already psyched for Solo?!?!!
    Also I'm not sure what is going on with RUclips's player. If you're still seeing the video at 360p max, try again in a couple of hours. I uploaded it hours ago so it should have processed, but good ol' YT's been buggy lately.

      So I’ve been thinking about getting a diamond hailfire but couldn’t find an honest review on a diamond guitar do you think you would review one. I know your honest about the guitars you review so it would be awesome

      I loved the Solo trailer, I think it looks like a super dope Sci-Fi adventure. Homeboy may not look or sound like Han, but his charm may win me over. Trailer is dope though.

      Kaelan Saunders The problem is that there is a Star Wars movie coming out every year now and that makes it harder to get hype. Doesn't help that the The Last Jedi split the fan base.

    • @rydoggsc2

      Last Jedi was garbage for me so my hype for any Star Wars is at an all time low. I don't care for the direction that Disney has taken the franchise.

    Yes! Thank you! This is the kind of creativity and tone and rhythm I kept saying you need. You have the right amount of gallop for djent and a soul seeking breakdown with a rhythm track other than just straight down picking and palm muting. You have my like 😍

    • @finnancahill2644
      @finnancahill2644 6 лет назад +23

      Steve Broussard I don't think anybody is stupid enough to say that only Gibson has qc issues. Every company has qc issues. The problem is that Gibson charges a lot more than other companies for what are inferior guitars. I have a Gibson explorer and I love it, but when I got it the gloss finish on the neck was uneven and would feel like shit to play, and the fret board was significantly smaller than the neck which can become frequently irritating

    Brother Fish!!! Long follower of your Channel and had been looking for my first 7 string for a long time. It’s a lot different from what I was originally looking for. Was eyeing an Ibanez RGIR37 for a long time but didn’t want the emg’s. Came accross this on Sweetwater and saw mixed reviews. Trusting you so much I was about to bail on it. Couldn’t find anything else that caught my eye and bought this guitar. Turned out so good. I didn’t have any problems that you mentioned. I don’t like trem bridges but it’s fine. The guitar is beautiful and the pickups are insanely good. I don’t regret buying it. Love it so far

I understanding being this straightforward makes it more difficult to work with some companies, so it is respected you stay honest anyway. Btw demo track was badass!

    Discovered your channel only recently and it has become my favorite gear testing channels. No senseless show off shredding, interesting look on details, good demo tracks and i think the part with your roommate is not only funny, but also informative as he sees things through non-musician eyes and maybe sees things that we guitar players are blind for.
    Regarding this Ibanez: i don‘t like them, the necks are too thin for me, but honestly with this guitar it was just bad luck, never held an Ibanez of bad quality in my hands.

    My jbm27 also came with the backplate screwed al the way against the cavity and the fine tuner all the way down. The strings also sucked and it was tuned to drop G ish. The pickups were also very low. So I lifted the bridge pickup wich started to wiggle wich I solved with putting some foam in between. The neck pickup was really stuck. I couldn't lift it. I had to unscrew it a bit and pull on it. And again put some foam in between. Then I changed the strings for a ernie ball .09-.42 set with a .62 for the low string and tuned it to drop A. I had to adjust neck relief and re intonated it. So I got the guitar at 2 pm and was playing it at 4 pm. But once I did all that it played and sounded awesome. Like I get you, the QC control is non existent. But after a proper setup. It rocks

    So about a year ago I bought an RGDIX7MPB ($1,000). It came with a WOEFUL setup. The action on the treble side was so high I couldn’t even play those notes on the guitar without slowing my picking hand to accommodate the space between the fret and the string. After much tinkering with the neck and bridge, I was unsuccessful in getting the thing to play right. Even brought it to local GC and they couldn’t do anything about it. After calling an Ibanez specialist I was told about neck shims. Installed one on my guitar and it now plays fantastic. Basically, what I’m saying is it’s a bummer you can’t expect a great playing instrument right from the seller, but once you get it right it’s hard to beat, especially the iron label series.

  • @saltyshrimppasta

    I’ve had 2 Ibanez basses and 1 Ibanez 6 string, and I have no major complaints with their products, other than the tone sounding universally the same across their production models. I am a fan of their Iron Label guitars because they seem more sturdy

      Lolol. I mean I don't hate it. It's not like the guitar as a concept is flawed like the Firebird Zero. The pickups are awesome, but I was so frustrated with it. I'd heard such good things about Ibanez quality and I got a lemon. I had a riff in my head I wanted to lay down with it, but the damn thing fought me every step of the way

      Agufish you are one heck of a nice guy. You nicely pointed out some major errors that I’ve never seen happen on a guitar just purchased (except from aliexpress or craigslist).
      However, knowing you like LTD. I did get a lemon from them and their tech support was a nightmare who didn’t do a single thing to help me out. My LTD came with one pickup that didn’t work and the guitar would not stay in tune to save its life.

    Man, I only play Ibanez electrics. I got my first one back in 93, a RG470. The guitar still plays like new. I got a RGIB21 back in May and I love it too. Now, it does have a thicker neck than the RG470. The baritone also has active EMG pickups which I am looking to change to DiMarzio Titan 2's (bridge and Neck).

    I'm gonna say both Ibanez and Sam Ash are at fault. It's unusual for Ibanez to be this bad, but also Sam Ash really shouldn't be sending this to customers in this state. A lot of other retailers set up all guitars before going out. I'm sure with a proper setup this thing is probably godly.
    Anyway, still a really awesome guitar! Thanks for finally doing an Ibanez Hunter!

      Luke Kramer I was gonna say the same thing, how does a retailer get something from a guitar company, and not QC it themselves and at least give it a basic set-up, this video really helped me out by staying away from Sam Ash honestly.

    • @LukeDKramer
      @LukeDKramer 6 лет назад

      Full disclosure, I'm in the Ibanez fanboy category but I legitimately think this was just a lemon that somehow got through QC, and since Sam Ash doesn't set up the instruments, it was sent out that way.

    • @agufish
      @agufish  6 лет назад +9

      IMO it should have never even have gotten to Sam Ash (or any other retailer). This is a problem that should have been caught at the factory, since it's very clear from the attempted adjustments that there was something very wrong with this particular one. The fact this was allowed to slide and make it to retailers speaks volumes about what's allowed to come out of that factory, unfortunately :/

    Always good and honest information from you, man. Always enjoy your playing and thoughts on new gear. You are honestly one of the best to do videos like this. You obviously know what you are talking about and most importantly, give honest reviews instead of just raving about all the new gear you demo. 👍🏻
    Have you considered trying the new Schecter Blackjack SLS Elite? Preferably the hardtail with Hipshot instead of the Floyd models, I feel the sustainiac and whammy takes away from what the guitar paired with the new Fishman pickups will do on its own. I mean, I would have that model and I like both features, but for the sake of the demo I think the 6 or 7 hardtail would be an excellent review. And, no one has a solid review of it yet. Be the first!

    Thannnnk you for doing an in-depth on this guitar. I've been hot to get one of these for a while. The all black with cream-yellow pickups and gold tuners....shiiiii. It's sexy asf. The 7th string adds a cool range to the instrument that I want to explore terribly! Like ya said, it was a single unit of that model with issues. Grabbing one in-store vs. through the mail kinda thing? Super informative video, great shots/angles of the instrument, thank you again!

    I have owned some Ibanez Artists and currently own two Sabers. The japan (Fujigen) made S is an incredible metal macine. I haven't had it from new and I don't know if has had minor work done, other than being bought as a box of bits and made to play with some reassembly and replacement of the missing electronics. My 2014 Iron Label S needed the nut significantly lowering and the frets overhung the slight bevel on the neck binding. My 2009ish ART needed a fret polish of all things but the 1998 (i think) gio was absolutely spot on for playability despite cheap hardware and pickups that went straight in the spares box.
    You can stop trem springs ringing reliably by inserting sillicone tube inside them, sometimes sold as catapult tube, it's squishy enough to not impede the motion of the trem and doesn't degrade like the elastic in hair bobbles.

    At first I thought Hunter isn't very good at setting up a floating trem. ( I am wrong. He knows what he is doing) You usually have to change the strings pretty soon after buying the guitar no matter what. And usually the string tension isn't the same. So you end up farting around with set up for a day or two to get it right.
    But that is a disaster with the screws and spring claw! I have never seen that on any guitar. That would be a nightmare to deal with. If you don't have extra springs. Your stuck with a guitar for a few days you can't even play! And that is assuming you are reasonably proficient at setting up a locking tremolo.
    If this is on Ibanez they should say something.
    Demo track was very good on this! Great job.

    I bought this guitar around a year ago and even though I had no complaints about the set-up, the ringing made it unplayable. Especially considering that Periphery features a lot of staccato playing, having that obnoxious ringing whenever you mute the strings makes it unusable unless you use a tight noise gate (which I know is pretty standard for "djent" but seriously, a $1400 guitar should not have an issue like this. I also don't want to rely on a noise gate to get my guitar to be usable). The ringing wouldn't stop no matter how much I dampened the springs so I returned after three weeks or so. The sound (other than the ringing) was fantastic, so was the playability (I like fast and thin necks), but seeing how you had problems like this it might be a more serious issue not related to single guitars but maybe the whole line. I can't say that I would recommend this guitar for anyone which is a shame because I love Periphery and really wanted to like this guitar.
    I got the Schecter Km-7 MK II instead and it is everything I wanted this guitar to be and I think it's a bit cheaper even. For anyone interested in a 7 string guitar with a 26.5' scale, Keith Merrow has some amazing options.

    I got a sterling 7 string from Indonesia and it was setup better than my american PRSi right out of the box, so it is possible that they can do better, but consistency is not something to expect from factories over there. Id say your experience is closer to the rule and mine is the exception.

    It might be because I bought mine used, but I did not have any of the problems with the bridge you described. It left quite the opposite impression on me, like you could bend all day and drop it down a flight of stairs and it's still perfect pitch. Mine had room for ajustment everywhere, so I'm a bit confused by that, but still great video though!

  • @creeperkilla83

    QC is one of the biggest thing for a guitar company should keep checking all the time. I got my Epiphone couple of years ago, and have little issues to have. But the guitar can still be play

    Just curious. When you have great tone coming from your pedals and amp, do you think the guitar really effects the sound that much? I get playability is different on every guitar. But it seems the tone sounds pretty much the same in most of your videos and your able to achieve it with basically every guitar

    i just got an Ibanez rgaix6fm last week and I'm just now noticing some flaws that I shouldn't see on a $899 guitar. First off the frets are bumpy, not sharp but just... bumpy. The g string goes out of tune more than id like. I get that its common for that to happen but if I've got locking tuners on a straight angle headstock, why does that happen? There is a bit of fret buzz on the treble strings You cannot adjust the pickup height so in my case, I like my action lower and I can't do that because If I did, the strings would be too close to the magnets and so I had the raise the action so it was not comfortable to play. There is tons of ringing whenever I use the coil tap switch. My guitar squeaks whenever I have my favorite leather strap on, I assume that's because of the finish. Other than those problems, it's pretty good, it looks badass and it sounds great but I cant get past those issues. This maybe the first time I return a guitar because I think with $1,000 I can get a lot better. (yes $1,000 because it didn't come with a hard case) I must say I have wanted a proper Ibanez for years because some of my favorite guitarists use Ibanez (head and monkey from korn, Mick Thomson from slipknot, Daron Malakain from SOAD, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Wes Borland ETC) and after scraping together the money after 4 months of working, I am very disappointed. I'm starting to think I should look elsewhere.

    I got the JBM27 2 months ago and my trem setup was near perfect (playable out the box). There was also room for the screws on the back for me to readjust to standard B tuning. It's really unfortunate you got that unit !!! They should give you a replacement :( It's a great guitar (that spring-a-ring though)

    I'm going to buy this guitar asap, but it was a great guide before buying.
    Once I bought an Ibanez STM3 Iceman and that came out from the Ibanez factory with a little 3 way switch problem. :D that was connected reversed to the pickups.. Neck position - Bridge Pickup/ Bridge position - Neck pickup.. That was quite annoying when I was playing that and if I touch the wiring I lose the warranty. :D

    Any thoughts on the Alpha/Omega pickups vs the Titan set?

  • @matthewhale9831
    @matthewhale9831 3 года назад +7

    Personally, i think Mark has the best signature out of the 3 because it’s different and very elegant, but you can achieve the heaviest of tones with it as well as amazing cleans, i think the choice of the Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega’s is perfect, at some point i might try some Killswitch Engage Fluence’s, but I’m definitely keeping the Duncans if i do because they are amazing pickups, but I’ve been wanting to try some Fishman Pickups for a while, that’s the only reason I’m tempted to do a pickup swap, if you have $1,100 to drop, GET ONE. (7 String is better in my opinion)

    the trem spring ringing is because of the extra low string, so thats kinda obvious so dont compare to a 6 string first off, just a simple foam bar in the back eliminates that

      The PRS felt like the best quality one out of the three, but I enjoyed the Jackson the most. I didn't completely get along with the incredibly flat 20" radius fingerboard and high-end heavy Alpha/Omega set

    Usually when an Ibanez has quality issues it's to do with the frets this is the first one I have heard of with a messed up Trem style Bridge or at least one that couldn't be fixed because they didn't include the proper tools.
    That being said I prefer fixed bridges myself and I have an Indonesian built Ibanez that has no issues.

  • @TheAir97

    I feel like your frustration toward Ibanez is very well justified, but I think you should give them a chance to redeem themselves. It's one guitar from an entire company, I'm sure there's at least one guitar for you.
    Also, I'm personally not the biggest Ibanez guy myself, but I have an old RG220B from '99 that I love. After doing a little bit of work to it (new paint job, new pickups, proper setup, etc), it's a great guitar

    • @Mr.Goldbar

      Douglas Bell I didn't say it's not a strat, but I wonder to myself why everyone compares the AZ to the Pacifica

    • @dpb22
      @dpb22 6 лет назад +1

      Because Yamaha and Ibanez are both Japanese. It's an easier leap to make. Keep in mine, Agufish doesn't bother with Ibanez because their specs don't suit him. He only did this review to appease his fans.

    • @Mr.Goldbar
      @Mr.Goldbar 6 лет назад

      Douglas Bell but it's pointless to compare a beginner level instrument (the Pacifica) to mid end and professional level instruments (the Ibanez AZ series)

  • @magnuskiemer7930

    For some obscure reason I find ibanez mid priced guitars that are around the £300 mark are really good like the RGA42FM. I got that and it's made in Indonesia I think or Korea and i haven't had to do anything to it. I slapped on some 11-50 guage strings on,tuned to drop C and its been my main recording and live guitar ever since.
    I don't the the Jake Bowen Sig should be that expensive, I can't see the justification behind it besides it having someone's name on it. I'd only pay 800 for that at the absolute max.

      Magnus Kiemer Magnus Kiemer I watched your demo of the RGA42FM, and I have to admit, the pickups sound very good, and have that chuggy metal tone that I like a lot, which is surprising for in-house pickups.

    I agree the intro song is awesome, and the guitar sounds really nice. Sad you seem to have gotten a lemon. I think this is one of the best looking ibanez. I have had many basses from them and all were pretty nice instruments.
