When one becomes a master of his craft, one knows every little mistake, making themselves feel unworthy

Dead Space's speedruns somehow highlight the series theme of futulity in perhaps even more eldritch proportions than the brethren moons ever could, and that's metal as hell.
The fact that the more runners learn, the worse the problem they sought to fix gets is so fitting for a series like Dead Space fr.
So does that mean rampancy is the marker of dead space speedrunning?

They actually may be able to get a good run. They completely redid the ADS mission and it’s much better now I think. I’d like to see some runs attempted

Nice video! It look me months to beat the world record in 2017, lots of failures but I did get it in the end. Haven't been able to get back into it recently, maybe I can redeem myself in the remake!
It seems like any problems with speedruns can easily be solved just by splitting them into more categories. Make a no-Rampancy leaderboard, everything's 100% competitive again

@@animalicon3535 Honestly just seems like he wanted the record, no matter if it kills the community for it or not. I remember some other speed run breakdown vids, the communities of runners that form around it all try their hardest, and it leads to cool skips and tricks being found, but maybe because this game is actually pretty solid, it just seems like one person going out of their way to make sure nobody else has fun.
Honestly, after going through this whole video, I feel like my main take away is, "This speedrun is dead, and it's Rampancy's fault."

I love Rampancy's attitude. It reminds me of Cartman jumping homeless people in south park. "I can jump 2 homeless people, maybe 3, but asking me to jump * this * many is asking me to risk my life"! and then Rampancy proceeds to jump all the homeless people.
The no hit speedruns are my favorite Dead Space runs!

What's really neat about speedrunning in general is that all it takes is 1 single previously unknown or rarely done glitch to break the whole scene for a game wide open
Can happen almost any time and it's always fun to see people lose their minds wondering if it can be further utilized
Except in this case, where the newest glitch skip just throws the game into its grave pretty much instantly
I always enjoy your breakdown videos of speedruns. It's not just "do this thing to skip", you've always done a great explanation of how and why it's done.
I know the rules for any% runs are pretty generous but I would think that modifying/deleting game files would be a no no.
Some allow things like that for various factors. For example, the downtime was extremely boring, so for both the viewer and speedrunner, it is better to allow deleting the Rig videos. Some other games also allow things to be done beforehand. If I remember correctly, Hitman 3 has an exploit you are allowed to do before you start the speedrun
The fact that the files being deleted are exclusively media (cutscene videos) I think makes it more palatable.
Plus, it doesn't require any special patching tools. Just browse to the game files with Explorer, open the cutscene directory, and drag them all to the recycle bin.

Dead Space has helped me with personal development. Every day I complete a serie of hard tasks, I imagine Isaac getting on the tram as "chapter complete" pops up.

25:23 I don't know much about Dead Space's physics engine but I suspect the reason for higher FPS giving a bigger boost is actually because it moves the gun out of the wall in a single frame (most physics engines work this way). The less time a single frame takes, the faster the player gets moved. For example at 30 fps one frame takes 33ms and if it has to move the player back 1 metre then the player has a velocity of 1 metre per 33ms, whereas if the fps is 60 then one frame takes 16ms and the velocity will be doubled. Just my 2c, good video! 🙂

I barely have free time to play games casually and do a hobby or two. I almost worry for the people who have time to do this kinda stuff.

To me this highlights why I personally prefer Glitchless speedruns, where it comes down to skill in playing the game, vs how well you can break it. They're just way more entertaining than watching a guy run into a wall, fly, run through the void, and not actually fight anything. I don't know if that's a popular opinion or not, but I have way more admiration for those that learn the game inside and out, where monsters spawn, the average drops ect, and turn the games strengths against it to come out on top.

Very well done sir. I’ve often wondered why DS was not a speedrun game. I’ve played a few times, but never contemplated the intricacies of the speedrun. It’s really cool I found this video shortly after my most recent run.

One time in an elevator I fell through the floor and ended up in some dark room with nothing to do inside, so I had to restart the game

It's probably there just on the off chance that it somehow happens unintentionally, just so that a normal player's immersion isn't broken if they do something by accident.
