@@bjo889 I was 5-man in an undefeated Penn frosh nat'l champ boat; 4-man was a Harriton oar...went on to be my room-mate later at Penn, my Best Man and an Air Force flight sugeon...
unbelievable, my friend Savino Rebek in the first seconds of the video in the 1x final, in Castelgandolfo where I won my first national race, medalled on this same pontoon!! O__O
there's a midloaded W4+ in the moscow olympics, you should check it out @3:25 (ruclips.net/video/JcHwAgEYR-o/видео.html). I recommend watching the whole video, though
@@NosleNremix Sorry I had a typo. It should be a "false" start. Watch the boat second from the bottom. They start rowing before the actual call to start.there is a pause before the "start" call (in Italian I am guessing). No other boat starts at that time. Even in that boat, stern pair start and 6 seat seems surprised by it because he is not moving with the stern pair. It's almost like they discussed jumping the start and 6 seat forgot.
@@busterchops aah yes i saw it now ! At least i don't think that the results would have been so much different.. (maybe for The midfield) The Germans were clearly on top ! Do you know one of these athletes ? (I don't think your interest for this race is random)
@@NosleNremix My interest in this is not random but based on my love for the sport. It is something I have done for more than 40 years and coached for around 30. I also find the history of the sport fascinating so I love watching these old clips. However, it is funny you ask if I know anyone in the boat and the answer is... I did not think so until I just now looked up who was on the crew. I do know a couple of the members but only tangentially. As in, I have met them (but did not know they were on this crew), but they would have no idea who I am :). Thanks for asking though, I would not have known that otherwise.
@@busterchops 😃 Happy to have contributed unwittingly hahah ! My father (Jean Marie Lemaire) was on double scull for the Belgian delegation and finished 6th with Gérard Higny 🙂 I still have some documents, press articles, Olympic ID card, parade uniform,.. a real historical treasure tbh and even more for me. But i didn't know there were videos of this particular race ! This is really amazing 🙂🥲
A huge thanks to you for this document ! My father represented the Belgium 🙂
What a wonderful course. Fantastic footage thanks
Qué daría por estar allí y poder competir, claro que teniendo ppr lo menos 35 años menos.
My college rowing coach, Ted A. Nash, was the 2-man in the US gold medal straight-four that day. Simply the fiercest competitor I have ever known...
I rowed against his son in high school. Straight pair competition. We won. Ted chewed is son out on the dock for losing.
@@bjo889 Did Ted's sons go to Kent School?
@@whipple1062 no he went to Harriton HS, I went to Lower Merion

This footage is not at the normal speed right??
The german 8 stroke rate is incredible
2:32 "Etes Vous Prets" Wonderful.
@Maraetaisculler It's given its name to the Albano buoying system which was used here for the first time
Imágenes muy bien conservadas. Lástima muy breve la toma a Ivanov

The judge at the start seemed to have been asleep for that eights race
its funny to think that big names like vespoli and resolute wouldn't be invented for some time
Brasil ?
their stroke rate is really high??
Simply because of the shape of the spoon and how the gearing was rigged at that time.
Lindo lindo!
Pretty sure that was a fault start for the eights.
Why ?

German hymn was forbidden...
I don't think I'd ever refer to a coxed pair as a diamond on glass.
