Watching you boys give your heart, soul and guts in this video and talking so openly about it makes me feel deeply proud to be British. You did it for yourselves and this land that we should ALL love. Gods speed boys 💪
I always come back to this video. There are lots of sports where you won't see the same level of determination that these guys showed. Group effort - totally emptied the gas tank when they had expended all of their remaining fuel. Epic dogfight to the very end, the Canadians should not be overlooked, they were the most miniscule length away from gold.
What an amazing race! Still has the hairs on the back of my neck stand up even after all these years! Too bad Steve wasn't still in the team for that one. Amazing. Good luck for our boys on London 2012....
Great video. Disappointing result (for Canadians!) but this race was incredible. All the teams showed such drive and determination, the Brit's really did what they do best. Just too bad the results didn't favor Canada
@paintball254 Bravo for being a good sport Mr Paintball254 and expressing international unity! I understand what you mean, but as Mr SRALtwt4Seat said, commentators rightly honour their country of origin. Also, perhaps it's the same in Canada and the U.S., but here in the UK the commentators are all ex oarsmen themselves, so you can expect some of those old feelings of rivalry and reverence for other specific countries to come through in what they say. It's not such a big deal really.
Very true. And also have such a high level of constant applied power, endurance, technique and perfected teamwork, utilising all of the major muscle groups.
Something I never noticed before.. in the closing 250m, the Canadian in the 3 seat is out of sync with Barney Williams at stroke, beating him up the slide and taking his crewmates at 2 and bow with him. His shins also go past the vertical at front-stops, unlike the rest of the crew. Obviously the crew as a whole was still pretty darn fast despite this. But could they have been faster?
Now that is more difficult. Certainly, this was a much better race than 2000, the GB boat then had the lead all the way from start to finish, so not very exciting in that regard. However, the circumstances surrounding Redgrave going for his 5th gold make it so much more important. I still think this race is more epic since Pinsent also had gold medal #4 on the line.
the end of the 2000 race was still a nailbiter though. italy was gaining on them with every stroke in the last 100 (watch the last 10 strokes of the race); if they had another 20m italy probably would have edged ahead (not to discredit GB at all of course, amazing performance)
Tim Villabona but they didn't have another 20m They both trained for 2000m. If the race was 2020m great Britain would of trained for that and still won.
@tiaguinho619 Yeah Matthew exudes supreme confidence in his/their abilities. If you watch one of the Gold Fever episodes I uploaded he's talking to Steve about how much they're going to win by!!
@oneworldfamily Just spotted this comment again (Yes, I do come back to watch this video that often. It's one of my favorite recorded racesof all time.) after some time. Canada, USA, Australia, and Britian are four of the biggest forces in rowing and over the course of the last several Olympics they have done the best in the sweeping events, but lots of other countries get recgoniztion for sculling events, such as France in this video which I highly reccomend you watch /watch?v=a3b8eZyVPdA
@paintball254 Every country is going to have biase for their country. Would you be happy if (I am not sure if you're American or not, but I will assume you are for right now.) a US announcer paid little to no attention to the US simply because they were focusing on the MANY other nations? No. The country is going to support their athletes. That's just how it is.
'good start, good start' .. only rowers will understand exactly what this means!
I was sitting in stands at 100m to go. Was a privilege to see it live.
Incredible, an experience I'm sure you'll cherish forever!
Sporting endeavour doesn't really get much better than this. Well done, boys!
Watching you boys give your heart, soul and guts in this video and talking so openly about it makes me feel deeply proud to be British. You did it for yourselves and this land that we should ALL love.
Gods speed boys 💪
I have watched this video at least 10 times in the past few days. so inspiring and motivating
Music starting at 0:55 is Jenkins Palladio - 1. Allegretto

Worth watching alongside the Gold Fever documentary series.
I still get nervous, even though I know the result. Epic race, and alway worth re-watching!
the best rowing race of all time
Nice video Nick. I thought it was going to be the fours win in Sydney, but this is on a par and closer!
Adrian
I'd put this on the same level as the 2003 Oxford Cambridge Boat race. 4 and a quarter miles, the verdict was a foot
NZ pair against GB pair 2010 World championships is up there too
Watch the Men’s Double race in 2012 Olympics, it’s insane
Lol says this then the 2016 singles race happens
This is great!!! Thank you for such a great race and how you retold it!!!!
Xeno

"I'm not embarrassed about it, there are very few people who know what that feels like". - Pinsent.
I am responsible for probably a quarter of the views on this video.
This, together with the Kelly Holmes double victory and the mens relay made this olympics for me! Amazing feeling!
"There are very few people who know what that feels like"
I got an emotional surge just watching this video so I can only wonder how those guys felt!! EPIC
Brilliant - thanks for posting
The song around 4mins is Adagio for Strings by Barber.

Sólo superada por la final 4 sin ligero en Londres..en emoción. ¡ que batalla!
Totally awesome
Pinsent is an absolute physiological beast, HUGE lung capacity!
Epic moment is sport.
@Lippmaniac No idea I'm afraid. I assumed it was some incidental music from the BBC. It sounds like it might be good 2k erg test music!
There are so few sports where people get asked to empty the tank time after time after time after time
Very true. And also have such a high level of constant applied power, endurance, technique and perfected teamwork, utilising all of the major muscle groups.
@@oneworldfamily Just noticed you are up in Sheffield..I went to Uni there (tv's were still black and white then).

good start :D
@chrisfrags what was your 500m time?
This or the 2003 Boat Race. Which one do you think more epic?
This. It's the Olympics! Nothing matches that type of stage.
+CoDWiiPS3Gameplay Okay then... this... and Sydney 2000 same event.. Which one?

whats the song at 4:38?
it's some remix of Adagio for Strings. look around for remixes that sound similar because there's so many, to be honest.
Adagio for strings from the movie platoon
im another 1/4 at least! i know it word for word!
6:09 in the boat is the face of rowing

@SRALtwt4Seat Well said!
Date of destiny
музыкальное сопровождение:танго смерти...
An extra like 10m and Canada would have pulled ahead
@JimmyIsTheBest1 Ohh yeaah!!
