Valuable advices! Just one thing - you might want to pick a first kingdom tradition early, as it is cost effective. Traditions are the key to victory in this game and their bonuses really stack and pay off. Kings are the best way to learn traditions, as they learn a skill in 3rd lvl for only 200 books. Personally I pick a merchant king as first and Writing as my first tradition.
One important thing nobody seems to mention is also cultural might, which can help you make enemy provinces around you loyal to you so you can then buy them from other countries or way easier conquer them.

I never played the original but ive played about 5 hours of this so far and its a good game. The trade/diplomacy/knight and building chain are all well implemented mechanics. The map is also pretty good. The only two downsides for me so far is the fact that you cant turn your camera or zoom in/out further, its the same in battles where you have a top down view which just seems limiting. And the battles are pretty underwhelming because the units take a lot of damage quickly and run off.
Can confirm...sooner or later you'll find your self begging your foes to not make you take their land. You have to navigate religion based politics, and a web of relations. Fun stuff tbh

man, what I hated the most in KoH 1 was the limited number of knights and I wished they'd get rid of that, but it seems that number has shrunk now... damn...
It's the same number of knights as before, except that your king is always in a slot of your court now. (Which was usually ideal anyway, since previously they cost no upkeep). There are some significant improvements here, though. Merchants can govern a town, trade with someone (and expand that trade to be worth more than a typical route), as well as import up to 3 goods at a time. Previously, this would take 5 separate merchants. Besides the improved efficiency in space, (other knights can govern and do other tasks as well), the choices for knights is streamlined. So, no need for builders or landlords, you can have merchants that give books, not just clerics, and all types can be educated with specialized skills. (And any skill that's a part of a tradition is available to all knights to learn). I think they made massive improvements to the royal court system. (Knights also have way more to do, and the diplomat type is extremely useful). Prisoners not taking up a slot is huge as well.
The only thing I put as a negative on y steam review was I'm waiting for a historic start option. A historic AI behaviour is not a demand, but it would be nice too... Two things almost every other similar historic title with a global map has (Especially Paradox games).

sadly AI cheats and the building upgrade system locks you to choices you might not want, once you upgrade building if you want to build another building of that type you are unable to built the un-upgrade version but the fully upgraded version costs a ton hence you are block when you are under pressure, devs claim this is depth - to me it makes the game more shallow and takes away player choice
At least you can upgrade while building and no one said you can't only build and not fight in the early game For example i had a run with east flanders (a province run not a kingdom one) and allied so hard with england, no one could touch me and i could build all i want
The game has some nice features, although I'm not certain it will actually be that good. A combination of Total War and Paradox games sounds fun in theory but I think it's harder to do good than just doing something like ck3 and when a battle starts you enter total war.
Is there a way to increase the number of knights? Or units in an army? Or are they both locked at 8 (technically 9 for armies, if you include the general)? Also I can’t figure out how to build siege weapons. I’ve built the armory and the upgrade for them but can’t find where they are built. EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. There are inventory slots to the left of the general's portrait. They're bought there. /EDIT
maybe in mods later on and such but right now no more knights then 8. the bigger you get the more marshals you should focus on getting IMO. traditions are extremely helpful and should be utilized as early as possible.
Each marshal has four little circles left of his portrait (when you click the marshal on the campaign map) these circles can be filled with ‘equipment’ including siege engines but als a item that expands the size of the units :). The catapult does a lot of damage to units as well

At the end I captured Constantinople but was severely weak-end by the ordeal, broke and starving, I had to deal with two rebellions and then a Muslim invasion… Jesus.
