    Of *course* I was working on one of these for HUMANKIND! I wish I'd got it out a little earlier in the week, but I hope the concepts and nuggets of knowledge in here give you much success in your time with the game. Let me know down below if you'd like a series, and any topics you'd like to see focused on! While most of these tips apply across the board, I excluded late-game centric elements since they change quite a few factors, and I didn't want the video to get any more bloated - I'll be saving those, as well as other topics, for a later video.

      Really nice content man. take my upvote and sub. Finished my first game yesterday, and even the tutorial makes a great job at teaching you the basics, the depth of the game only shows up in this kind of tutorial.
      I had a lot of interrogations after the tutorial and you answered quiet a lot here.

    I have played every Civ since Civ 1 (ya, I'm that old). I love civ, and was very skeptical of this game. But on my 4th game of it now, and I absolutely LOVE it. It improves on Civ in most every way, and the graphics; music; and voice work are just great (and they have voice work constantly, for just about everything that happens during the game). When you get to the 3rd era, combat starts to be so incredible. It's so sad though that so many of the negative reviews are from people that just have not figured out the game mechanics yet and won't give it the time/chance. This game also have THE best tutorials for this type game I have every seen in my life (included videos that come with the game).

      + Fighting (strategy in battles is pretty nice)
      + Non-fighting (war support makes being peaceful a bit more reasonable than Civ)
      + Flair (I love the cinematics!)
      + Concept of the neolithic era (beginning nomadic is a wonderful touch)
      - Reality of the neolithic era (so random... there are games where everyone advances before you get your third scout)
      - Spawn mechanics (again, everything is so random, you might just get unlucky and have some raiders mess you up)
      - Global spawn mechanics (I had starts where I had access to 4 territories before getting completely boxed in by other civilizations)
      - Practicality of graphics (fog of war vs new land, it all blends together; if you zoom out to get an overview, the game already hides important details, namely troops - the camera angle makes me crazy, if I could just look down on the map by 15-30° more, I'd be much, much happier)

    • @DrZaius3141
      @DrZaius3141 3 года назад +3

      After beating the game on Metropolis difficulty, everything is compounded. Sure, randomness drops massively as the game goes on, but your neolithich and ancient era decide everything.

      Lol, I thought I was bad for having 11 already, what with having a full-time job, haha. I got through an entire game already, unfortunately I was only 4th in score with there being 6 AI. The insane bit was...I was far ahead during every age until mid-Industrial, and then I went to war and it's like I became the barbarian nation as most of the AI seemed to magically surpass me. I didn't even get past having fusiliers and the game was over in terms of turns, I can't imagine how I'm supposed to get to modern era warfare stuff as there is so much to get, and I was doing fairly decently in science too (was Zhou for a few times, then Qing, then ended as China, so the influence was off the charts). Anyways, I do like the game, but like I said, I feel slightly befuddled and disappointed in a way because I don't understand how I'm supposed to get to modern era tech before the turn limit, and I heard that making the game pace slower just makes city production take longer and doesn't necessarily give you more time to get through the science tree. I will say, though, I may have gotten so behind because I had the mentality I had of playing Endless Legends, of being aggressive with unit production, and I had probably about 60 military units by the Industrial age, with about a couple hundred gold production per turn to spare. Wondering if this hamstrung me in terms of science production since I focused more on production, gold, and influence in general..I dunno, lol. Obviously still need to learn the game, going to try out a slower pace to see if it really helps at all, maybe I'll add less AI to give me some more breathing room too

      Me too man... and only to play the 300 turns of the tutorial lmao. i still have to launch a "real" game :p
      that's why such guides are usefull ! i don't want to embark in a 15 hour game without a decent plan to only see after 10 hours i better resign and having this precious lifetime wasted (or a bit wasted, as long as fun is part of the process :p )

    • @lionello_7836
      @lionello_7836 3 года назад

      @@chobai9996 I am still curious what experts thinks about the military approach being great or not in this game. i am by no mean an expert but this was my initial thought before my first game, now i am reconsidering it. The gameplay mechanics induced by the civ picking is huge compared to (to not name it) Civ 6. I think wiping everyone from the map is first of all HARD to do and theres SO MANY other ways to win at the end (again compared to civ where there s only 3 victory conditions).
      i guess 600 turns game is the only way to play with each units the game has to offer. in 20 hours i had the planes available but.. no oil. i did not even made one sea battle... i only made the tutorial taking my time so that's maybe why. I will start one soon with stronger AI's
      i also really like the pollution showing up :p GREAT REMINDER for IRL too lol

    I think someone should do a video explaining the different kinds of bonuses in the game and when/how they apply.
    What does "per tile" mean, for example - and how should we decide which bonuses to focus on?
    It's a great system with a more fluid range of options than Civ but it's pretty perplexing when you first encounter it.

    • @lionello_7836
      @lionello_7836 3 года назад +1

      The first game you play only scratch the surface i guess. The Tutorial makes a great job at explaining the basics if you are new to the genre but imo does a poor job at explaining all the great stuff they putted in this particular game (like war mechanics, passive bonus traits of a culture and the implications of it, territory and outposts, and so on).
      one thing was quiet clear to me : if you want to test a large amount of mechanics and play everything the tech tree has to offer in the game, a 600 turns game is mandatory. I see blitz option in 75 turns i wonder what you can actually

    • @SteinCodes
      @SteinCodes 3 года назад +5

      Let me give a quick run down, Granary should be the first upgrade, then flood irrigation if you are in a river dominant city. All bonuses that add per pop count are good and ones that increase per farmer or scientist gain are important after those. Rest is just having strategic resources as many upgrades need them.
      Basically get Library then rest of the good science stuff then just build buildings as need be.
      Your cities will have 20-30 pop by 3rd and 4th age. And maybe even 40 if you really got a good city, with an agrarian culture to start. Also force growth when ever you need units and get an army 2x the size of the enemy just cause otherwise war will just be hell.
      Expansionists are a must after you have acquired all free territories because war Will happen, just keep expanding and extinguishing enemies, preferably stand your armies close to the place you want to acquire, otherwise your allies will get the good stuff which was just sad in my case.
      I killed all my allies out of rage. Don't judge.

      @@SteinCodes Haha, I like your write up. I've actually played a fair bit of Endless Legend so I was meaning for someone to make videos for other people. @@dhoelbinger well, in Humankind's case it means, "per tile exploited by a district that exploits that type of resource except in the case of non-FIMS resources where it only applies to city center and outpost exploitations" - so, shall we say, somewhat different from Civ's definition? See what I mean?

    The most important reason to stay in the Neolithic is to gobble up more tribes, so your cities start with a good number of pops, which make up a big portion of your production in the beginning.

    • @jaypeezy2812
      @jaypeezy2812 3 года назад

      That's not particularly true. An early city without much infrastructure or districts in it will starve with more than 3/4 pops depending on how much food is in your starter area. I don't see any reason to be neolithic after turn 10 unless you are having a bad start. If you aren't dropping that first outpost turn 2 or 3 then I don't know what your plan is. I tried farming pop until turn 15ish 1 game and I think I barely had 9/10 but most games I try to hit ancient era turn 10/11 and I regularly have 7/8 pop in scout form by then. The only good reason to mass dump a bunch of scouts into a city early is is you took carpentry first and you're converting them into archers.

Since I'm new to this game I though I'd use the "easy" setting to get the hang of it for my very first play through. Was doing great up until the last 2 stars of the "modern era." Took quite awhile to acquire those while the AI went into "contemporary era" and had like 5 stars in like 30 turns. This video certainly helps. I stayed as the Zhou for 3 eras, then went to Qing for two, then China for 1, and honestly I think it's harder to stay as one because you aren't flexible in terms of the new challenges that arise. I didn't even get though the entire tech tree, only 3/4 really, before the turns were over and it ended by default score win

    My only issue wich this game literally my only one is the controls on console ain't the best but that's a known limiting factor with these types of games they really really rely heavily on having a cursor and they didn't give you one on console, and navigation of the menus when everything's linked to a few button combos it's tedious, mmos have the same issue with hotkeys and what not, it's definitely a keyboard and mouse game but personally I'm able to overlook the controller as thats my gaming medium and I know the downsides, tried to play cities skylines and OH MY GOD the promps and button combos is a nightmare and a half, surviving Mars is fun but still a lot and the tutorial for consoles ain't the best so definitely a genre compatibility issue and shouldn't be heald against any of those games as they are all fantastic, humankind is definitely the most friendly I gotta say and if you're interested in the genre of simulator go for humankind is far above the most friendly and frankly really really fun like the custom games you can make is just immaculate I personally see the controls issue as more of a learning curve than anything as they do all function well. My only issue is the camera likes to shoot you around from one side of the map to the other and it would be nice if I could pan the camera up and down left and right. Can I get a good 360 view of everything. The frostpunk is a really good microcosm of humankind so if you're looking for a great game and one that can act as a primer for humankind go get frostpunk it's usually on sale

    You say that you should stay in the neolithic era until you have all three stars, but that cannot be the right approach. The longer you delay, the more time the AI will spend as a proper civ, and thus they will be more difficult to beat. I say, stay until you get the research star, and move on immediately. The others are a bonus.

    Great video! Quick question: attaching a territory seems really advantageous, in which cases it is not recommended to do so?

    • @John_Stuhlmacher
      @John_Stuhlmacher 3 года назад +2

      Attaching lowers the city's stability. You also have to be able to feed the newly aquired population in said city.

    • @chobai9996
      @chobai9996 3 года назад +1

      Honestly, it's not necessarily a case of not being recommended, but rather it NOT being possible! Because, it takes loads of influence to connect them, thus while at the start of the game it becomes easy, during mid game you will have to really choose what land you make outposts, and then what outposts you attach.

    I had a weird scenario occur in my game. I was at war with the hittites, and at peace with the greeks. The hittites caputre an independent city. I capture the hittite capital, then the independent city. The capital stayed with me, but the independent city went immediately to the greeks, who had no military units in the area (but they were also at war with the hittites). Anyone know why I conquered a city and it immediately went to another player?

  • @dandi64yt87
    @dandi64yt87 3 года назад

    So what are the downsides to just having one city and just attaching the rest?

    • @chobai9996
      @chobai9996 3 года назад

      Production and population, as imagine this - you go to war, and then as each soldier unit takes 1 pop (some even take 2 pops or more!), your production capabilities lower with each unit built. Thus, you can't really sustain yourself during war with just one city, at least not an offensive one. Also, I believe it takes more influence attaching to a city that already has more outposts attached, rather than attaching to a city with no outposts or relatively fewer. In addition, there is a -10 stability hit every time you merge, so there's that too. The amount of influence to gain a lot of territory is absurd by the midgame

    • @PartyElite

      Luxury resources all have different effects - if you hover over them you'll see, typically, a boost to stability, as well as an boost to either food or science or gold or some other production on your cities too. I hope that helps!
