  • We have been doing countless stucco remediation projects in PA, and throughout the years we have find out that vent hoods such dryer vents or chimney vents are not part of the water management system.
    Builders, home owners and contractors under estimate this opening when doing either siding, stucco or stone, in this video we will take the time to talk about vent hoods, their pros and cons, which ones we personally like and why. We hope you enjoy this video.

    FINALLY someone that explains everything! Your thinking exactly like I am, its an opening to your house there needs to be some sort of water and pest protection. Thank you!

    Another tip not mentioned here, if you love your home family & pets, only use the rigid or semi-rigid duct pipe NEVER EVER use that cheap "tin foil" stuff you find at Lowes or home depot and sadly what many contractors use on long vent runs because it's cheaper than rigid ! Make sure you don't already have it run through your attic if your dryer vents through the roof or eaves !
    If your dryer element catches on fire, your duct will act as a chimney pulling the flames into it like a flamethrower , I have personally witnessed this ! The cheap foil will catch alight , burn & burst apart spreading the fire quicker than you can react !
    If you currently have that stuff GET RID OF IT and replumb with rigid or semi rigid ! And NEVER EVER run a dryer while you are asleep or away from home ! It is also good practice to post a Co2 fire extinguisher close to the dryer location. Thousands of homes are lost each year to clothes dryer fires and even worst, some lives .

    I google EVERYTHING on how to do ANYTHING so I recently moved in with a friend and there are lots of things need fixed around the house, not huge problems just here and there things. So there's no dryer vent cover outside. I asked about it and was told that it's been broken off for years. Oh yeah, and this in farm country in WV... So for the next week I was looking everywhere for hiding critters. Anyhoo, I've watched a few videos on replacement vents however after watching this one thankfully I'm done!!! Thank you sooo much! I like how everything was explained and multiple choices on what in ur opinion is best and why. Can't wait to watch ur other videos as I'm sure they will be of much help to me as well. 😁

    You rock. That was very helpful (single woman about to attempt to replace dryer hood/vent). I love your attention to detail and care for QUALITY work and I wish you were in the Lowell, MA area so I could hire you. THANK YOU!

    Awesome job on this, totally agree. Also on a side note folks never should use a bird cage on front of vent, they always plug up and cause major issues for people especially when vent is very high up and cannot get cleaned regularly.

    You really know your stuff! The vent cover you recommend is the one I was considering & I appreciate your showing it's advantages. The sun destroyed the cover on my bathroom exhaust fan vent & I thought the repair would be fairly straight forward, until I realized when I tried to access it yesterday that someone had stolen my tall heavy-duty aluminum ladder with extensions from my yard. :( Also the access to my attic is only from outside from the highest point on my house...the job is never as simple as it "should be"! Thanks for this video. Best wishes.

    Such a nice house and they’re using flexible ducting… for a CHIMNEY vent? Nah b. And what was that j-channel kit called? EZ Bit? EZ Bead? I couldn’t quite tell what you called it. Thanks for this

    I would hire y’all to come fix my house in Arkansas lol my vent for no logic at all is at the foundation height with little to no pvc which allows water to flow rt in. This makes a lot more sense. This is gonna help. Thanks very much

    They should place the seam of the round tube on top or at least on the side. Sean on the bottom would allow condensation to leak out. I would silicone the outside of that tube seam.

    • @mrkoolio4475
      @mrkoolio4475 2 года назад

      The tube that is going to be inside your wall? Those are alum…or galv…..don’t rust and don’t leak. Otherwise, everybody would always silicone that seam…..and nobody does.

    Instead of using the Azek trim (PVC board), fabricating a drip-cap and then installing j-bead along the entire perimeter, would it not be easier to mount the vent to a j-block?
    The only thing I can think of is that j-blocks could crack or shatter upon impact whereas Azec board is bomb-proof.
    Great video otherwise! Thanks for posting!

    Great video. Any tips for installing dryer vent hood on brick and a exhaust vent hood on siding? Would you use the same kind of vent hood for both? Great tip about not applying silicon on the bottom side. 🙏🏽
