    *Tip*
    *When you're in a tight spot like when you were tracing your duct hole, just use a few light shots of spray paint and the mist will leave a perfect outline of the vent instead of squeezing in there to trace it with a marker.*

    When using a hole saw on vinyl siding (especially the large 5 or 6 inch one you had) If you have a pilot hole established, it helps to run the hole saw in reverse to just cut through the vinyl. prevents grabbing/ breaking/chipping the siding, I cold weather it's going to almost always grab and break the siding .

    Nicely done! I would suggest for anyone else doing this, move your range out of the way first makes everything a lot easier. And a word of caution, if you're going to be leaving it in place and trying to cover the glass top to avoid damaging it, unplug the the stove or cut the power to the stove first, before covering it. Otherwise one unfortunate nudge on the controls for the stovetop and you could be burning whatever you put on your stovetop to protect it.

    Great job Jen, I like how you left the hole super tight, as it will limit migration of bugs and drafts. As a professional I could have told you what to do and what not to do, but we learn more from our mistakes. I didn't see many mistakes, just things I would have done different. Different, not better, as you did an awesome job.
    For those who didn't know, the digital functions of the stove / oven only work once you set the clock. Your clock has not been set for the entire video, which has been driving me crazy. When I installed a microwave over my drop in glass top stove, I kneeled on it and cracked the glass. It was under warrantee.

    • @leonhart2452
      @leonhart2452 Год назад

      The digital clock is fine. The camera refresh rate doesn't match the clocks, thus the flashing of the clock. You see this on many videos.

    Im sure this has already been mentioned, but there should be a set screw(s) on the mandrel for the hole saw that would allow you to extend the center drill bit. You needed to have that blade spinning before it contacted the wall to really work well…

    Jennifer, your fervent determination is what glows that makes watching you go through the process from start to finish. Einstein was quoted, "I don't consider myself smarter than other people, I just stick with the problem longer than most people." Regarding enlarging the 4.5 inch boring hole saw opening, or was it 6 inch? By slowly and slightly entering the hole with the bit on a rotating angle, you could have fairly easily bored/ reamed the hole larger, gently spinning the bit, gnawing it out, from one side or both. Bravo. Remember, if you can, the phrase, With what I've got now, what can I do now? You did it.

    If you want to enlarge the hole using the same holesaw then you hold it at an angle uppwards in the hole, 20-30 degrees, and drill. One quarter of the hole will become larger. Then you tillt the drill downwards 20-30 degrees and drill. And then the same left and right.

    • @brinleynicholson4588
      @brinleynicholson4588 Год назад +3

      Yes, I agree. The best way to enlarge a hole is by drilling it at multiple angles repeatedly. Lubrication on the drill bit is also critical. And always keep your tip sharpened.

    Any time I see young people taking matters into their own hands I'm impressed by that! We understand you're not a "professional" but you definitely have a "type A" personality who isn't afraid to jump right in, get your hands dirty and get things done which is great! You saved your family quite a bit of money by doing this project yourself...HOWEVER... having been in residential and commercial construction and renovation for over 40 years this should have been done when you did the kitchen remodel and I'm just curious why it wasn't finished then. You ran the wire or was it there from an original over the stove microwave oven? The kitchen looks beautiful, by the way. I really hope these videos that you're making will help inspire other younger people to get involved, roll up there sleeves and tackle projects like these on their own. It's not rocket science. If someone like me can do it anyone can and I've made a pretty good living on just this kind of thing. As my younger brother always tells me, "There's a RUclips video for that"! I laugh but oddly enough, he's right! Just as a side note, wiener dogs are spastic and when he bit you in the butt I had to laugh out loud. We had one years ago named Judy (after Judy Tenuta) who was a spastic comedian back in the day. Judy bit my youngest son in the lip when he was just trying to play with her. 4 stitches later...

    One little tip when using a hole saw attachment, most especially a very large one, get the pilot drill bit set precisely into the prescribed hole and hold it steady while you get the big round saw bit up to full speed. Then once the saw blade is spinning, then slowly introduce it to the work area you need to cut out.
    On a large hole saw bit, the only way you little drill has enough power to work that thing is by using the "built in" enertia from the fast spinning bit.
    Try that next time you use a hole saw.

Just a couple of tips - 1- take 2 minutes and move the stove next time 2- extend pilot drill on the holesaw, or buy some 1/4" rod at hardware store to make it longer (it doesn't have to be a drill bit if you drill pilot hole first) 3- stop worrying what strangers watching think. Most of us wish our girlfriends/wife would just help us, let alone try to do the things you do on your own! You are smart, beautiful, and amazing. 4- Chris really needs to get you a proper tool set! If he won't there are plenty of us that will adopt you and get you whatever you need :)

    I'm a fan! Love that you show REAL videos w/ trials & tribulations! And the cool fishy passing through the sewer pipe! Recently, I replaced an OLD OLD OLD toilet w/ a real beauty! Two weeks later, I removed it & reinstalled perfectly level using actual toilet leveling wedges (didn't use a level first time) and my caulking job is now PERFECT. Prior caulk was a total glob of a mess as the front was about 3/4 inches higher than the back! Live & learn, right?
    So now I'll spend the next month or so getting caught up on your projects. 😊

I'm about to attempt a job this week that really intimidates me, but I'm going to try. It's something I have little to NO experience on... my car. I'm going to need to do a ton of research for this one. Thanks for watching, Greg!

    You did a great job. When you cut the hole you knew it was a little too small, but you worked your way through it with a smile and grace. Silver lining was that the hole kept everything nice and snug. When you chalked it on the back side then around the outside edges, you did a superb job. I thought the way you did the insulation was just fine. I totally agree with another individual on the comments that you did a better job than some contractors.

    I like watching you figure things out. First of all your cute, secondly you keep trying. If you give up you never get it done so you dont give up. Im a retired carpenter, electricial,plumbing and heating guy ,a little of everything. Ive found that you cant surrender because the cavalry isnt comming you just keep trying. Watching you do stuff is fun. I know how i would do things because i have done things the wrong way alot. You just remember what works and what turns to shit. Keep it up Jen and i will keep watching and telling others to watch too.

    Great job m'lady .. I've done three range hoods and two clothes driers and I totally understand the struggles, hiccups, and mistooks of getting the hole in the right place. Mostly it's dyslexia and getting the hole in the mirror image of where I wanted it. Ha ha ha . Crazy stuff but congrats on your ladder technique too. Thanks so much for sharing your project. Great work ~ I believe you done well! Koodos to you for figuaring out the ways it could work but mostly taking the challenge to start then adjust to whatever it takes to fininsh the job. Now as you sit back for a moment to debrief , or reflect on the idea that much more pleasent would be that jjob if you started the hole just oversize instead of the same size ,but with that said , this is how we strive to learn the best practisess. Thank you very much for sharing this , Koodos for Chris and his support! Halellujah!

    You did perfect for what tools you had to complete the project. You mentioned very early on that you should have probably moved the stove first. I agree 100%. It would have made the inside portion of the job much, much easier but you learned to to work around it and you got your stretches in.

    Jennifer, good job especially considering your difficulties. Three tips, one should check the size of the hole saw is at least as big or bigger than the largest thing going through it, two the pilot bit for the hole saw most times can be adjusted out, but if not just use a regular bit that is longer, and three the cutter on your multi-tool does not HAVE to point straight in line with the body of the tool. You can set it at different angles to allow you to work easier. In this instance, I would have turned it 90 degrees to either side to oversize the hole.

    Love your enthusiasm and willingness to jump right in and do the work yourself, labor is the most expensive part on all projects nowadays. With a little more experience and some instructions on the use of your power tools you can do about anything. First instruction: on your drill, set the clutch to the drill bit icon when drilling any kind of hole. Use the lower speed/higher torque for bigger holes. The numbered settings are for driving in screws to keep from stripping, breaking or sinking them in too deep. Hope this helps.
