      I chose mine before the Ally X was a thing. And I went with the Go. To me the main thing that would have been better with the Ally X is the increased amount of RAM as RAM bottlenecks is definitely a thing when playing on an iGPU. Freesync definitely would have been great. I think that is a reason why they went with a portrait display since that makes the tearing vertical as opposed to horizontal. The reason I got the Go instead of the Ally was mainly the large screen. I rarely ever use it on battery and basically have it as my play in bed device. So neither the weight nor the larger battery on the Ally X is a massive draw for me.

    A got a Legion GO a while ago. I'm supper happy with it.
    I have triple boot on it. 1. windows for gaming 2. bazzite 3. windows dedicated for work.
    It works like a charm.
    I love the detachable controllers, I usually play laying on my back, LeGO on my belly with the kick stand and controllers next to me in hands. If I play it with controllers attached it is a bit heavy and is uncomfortable after a while.
    When I use it for work the FPS mode "mouse" with a keyboard work anywhere perfectly, my clients just watch in amazement when I setup for the meeting.
    Note: 2230 with adapter works perfectly for LeGO SS upgrade.

      You're right. The Lenovo Legion Go is a great handheld with a great screen, the thing that sucks is that you look goofy taking out in public. i sold it last week along with my steam deck then I got a rog ally x.

      @@HipHopFanatic-s8yyeah the X just makes sense, the native resolution of 1080p is way more consistent than the useless res of 1600p that the Go has. The vram being able to be set to 8 and left there is way better knowing that you have 16 left for system memory. The go’s battery life sucks and you always have to be plugged in, constantly tinkering with the resolution, 1600p just doesn’t do it and if I wanted to game at 800p I could have just stuck with my SD. Basically makes the large screen useless, the X screen size is just right, slightly bigger than a S24 ultra and it’s just right for playing away from an outlet now because of the bigger battery. It just makes more sense and is way better, I can now play all my games away from my desktop without having to worry about what res to play it on and having to tinker and always be connected to an outlet or portable power bank. People in the comments just saying the Go is better because they’ve spent the money and now they feel like 800 is too much for another handheld but this thing is worth every penny. This Is a true handheld and the Go doesn’t come close to the overall package in my opinion. Finally don’t have to power lift this huge device anymore, hopefully I can find somebody to sell the GO to. It’s more of a prototype instead of a solid and reliable portable gaming device.

      The Steam Deck is better optimized for saving battery than the first gen ROG ALLY. That's why Asus decided "Screw helping the buyers of the first gen ROG ALLY, let's make a revision that makes the first gen obsolete." They must of known they'd ditch supporting the first design because why even put the same batter capacity as a first gen Steam deck when THEY KNEW the ROG Ally has a higher resolution and more battery demanding chip set. Sadly I own both the ROG ALLY and Steam Deck. First gen ROG ALLY dies way too fast but it does play games with better performance. Also my ALLY doesn't read micro SD cards, developed stick drift and has some weird battery issue where it thinks it's charging when it's not even plugged in. Steam Deck is just wayyy mor3 reliable.

    Tbh with these two units it comes to preference. I now play on the ally x and my son has my old lego. The size of the lego screen is awesome, like trully awesome, but the ally feels better in my hands.
    Hall effect sticks are great on paper, but they always felt really loose to me. The sticks on the ally x have a great feel with their tension, and they are designed to be easily replaceable with after market hall effect sticks.
    Swapping the ssd in the ally x is way easier than in the lego, first thing i did, and with 2280 drives and a mico sd , i hava a 5.5 tb ally x . This isnt currently possible with the lego, i think the max you could go with a 2242 drive or a 2230 with an adapter and mico sd would be 3.5 tb.
    The ally x has superior speakers, there really is no argument here.
    VRR is nice, as well as amd afmf, much of afmf can be negated with buying the $7 lossless interger scaling program on steam for the lego ( the x can use it to but why). Plus the afmf argument might soon be negated , word on the street is afmf 2 will work on both units. So graphically both run games very well and have great graphics.
    The lego is big, for me too big , but hey, that comes to preference. Dont get me wrong a x with an 8 inch screen would be amazing.
    The controllers on the go always felt gommicky to me, i almost never detached them, as they cannot be used for 2 player like a switch. But the times i did try it fps mode worked flawlessly. It wasnt an option i used, and without an aftermarket protector, think killswitch but offbrand, i felt they wobbled on the unit , which always made me worry about a breaking point after long use.
    The battery on the x is aweome. The ability to charge at100 watts is great. That said it was rare i was playing too far from an outlet somewhere, so that argument is totally your preference.
    Personally i think armory crate is better, easier and more intuitive than legion space. Plus and this is a me thing, opening up ac i see my games, the next tab is my ally x's system. Opening up legion space the first thing i see is a store front where lenovo is trying to sell me more stuff. As a consumer that always bugged me, but hey like i said, that is totally a me thing.
    The x has more RAM, the end result is a few more fps,but it really is not a ton, and q lot of times is game dependant more than hardware dependant.
    If you got this far, i hope i helped, and that Prime isnt mad for the mega post. Do not be fooled by the fan boys either on the lego side or the x side. These 2 systems are so close it really comes down to your preference go to best buy and hold them, and see which feels better in your hands, if you have the money, go with that one. I chose the x because it is more compact and portable with a longer battery life, as well as being more upgradable. You may say the lego screen size wins the day. Both are valid. Hope to see you gaming.
    Side note on the resolution for the lego,. Depending on what you play. You will almost never play a AAA game on 1600p , your fps will be in the teens, and if you are unplugged expect your battery to run out rediculously fast. You will almost always drop resolution unless you are running old games on an emulator, or indy games. Most people run the x at 900p and the lego at 1200p or 900p

      The Go is trash bro, if you play both you’ll know how much worse it is. Can’t even enable RSR and AFMF because of the orientation they had to use because of the massive screen. The engineers didn’t think the Go all the way through. Show me any game you’re playing on the Legion Go and I’ll show you how much better the Ally X is performance wise

    • @stevew145
      @stevew145 2 месяца назад

      @@lorenzothomas2612 The screen is from a tablet, that is why the native orientation is portrait, but I have never seen it cause an issue. Even if performance is slightly higher on the x the bigger screen on the go makes it much better. I would happily go from 50 to 43 fps for a biggter, faster, higher resolution screen. The ally x is also quite a bit more expensive. To be honest I havn't taken my go out of the case since I got the Minisforum v3. 14" screen and 32gb of ram with bazzite is perfect for gaming. If i am worried about fps Id use my desktop. The ally x only has a larger battery, and 8gb more ram over the go. Everything else the Go has had since last year, and the X still doesnt beat the screen. I had the steam deck, the ally and the go. For me, the larger screen makes all the difference. A 5-10% increase in performance is not worth it for me to go from 8.8" to 7". Might not sound like a big difference but when you're trying to get the crosshairs on someones head, it is.

    • @stevew145
      @stevew145 2 месяца назад

      @@lorenzothomas2612 the main reason the ally x will out perform the Go in benchmarks is because the ally and ally x overclock to 43w for a couple minutes when first stressed. The Go does not go past 32ish watts. I have my go so it will do 45 watts for 1024 seconds so i am willing to bet my go will benchmark faster than the x. It has the same speed memory and the same processor. More ram really only helps when the settings require it but it doesn't necessarily speed up fps.

    • @evskeeskee5103
      @evskeeskee5103 Месяц назад

      This!! But I'd also like to add that the only reason the Ally X gets dismally better performance in games at a given top is because of the way the driver splits the wattage between the CPU and GPU. Run pretty much any game with only 4 or 6 cores enabled and watch how much faster your frame rates are. Zen 4 cores are hella powerful and can easily handle most any game with just 4 cores enabled leaving much more juice for the GPU to spread its wings. Ontop of that I get about a 15 - 20% boost just by tweaking the memory timings.. luckily I got Samsung ram in my unit so I was easily able to tighten alot of the timings. The thing is a beauty too.. and can slide in a professional setting as well. Try doing that with those rgb racing stripes..😅 does that little toy even have a kickstand?

In most videos I’ve seen like these, the Ally X does outperform the Legion Go, but only by a small margin. They both basically play the same and I’ve yet to have any issues playing on my Go. I play all my AAA games at 30 watts and I bought this charging dock station off Amazon for it that has dual cooling fans, looks very nice. I definitely recommend getting a charging dock station if you buy any portable PC. I always get smooth and fast gameplay, also solid fps numbers. It may just be mine, but I notice the Ally X tends to pull more power running the same games than the legion go which I would be less surprised in if it was reversed due to powering the bigger higher refresh rate screen. In 3D Mark for instance, its pulling up to 79W compared to the 72W on the LG, but the LG is still scoring higher, and this is with the same dock and peripherals connected and same current AMD driver as opposed to the older official ones (and even the new ASUS one).
    I know these type-C leads with the wattage display, are likely not really accurate, but the consistent results on both are reliable enough. I found the same thing with my mates OG ally which could also explain why it drains so fast compared to the SD and LG. Its no surprise really for ASUS to ramp up power to get more performance, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was behind a lot of the heat issues with the OG Ally.

I also don't like the back buttons on the Legion Go at all, they're in bad positions, too easy to click, and too big. Thunderbolt 5 is going to be amazing! I might get a chance to test something soon, looking forward to that new Bandwidth

      I will definitely be waiting for that video, Thunderbolt 5 should easily outshine the XG Mobile. 👍

    So I am going to be traveling to France in a month and battery life for 6-8 hour plane rides either direction was what drove my choice. I've had the X for about 2 weeks and am in love with it. Sure, I'd love a bigger screen, but playing some indies for 10-12 hours on a charge is what sold me.

    I have both and have to say they do exchange blows with some games running better on one than the other, though oddly I get frequent excellent to legendary scores on the Legion Go in 3D mark but only good to excellent on the Ally X, with the scores only being in the hundreds at most better on the LG, and 3DMark recognising them both as standard ROG Ally..
    My rule of thumb is simple, emulation and games that don't suffer from video ram related issues, its the LG all the way, that bigger screen alone makes all the difference and the track pad is a big plus. Everything else is the AX for that smoother experience, and I don't mean the VRR display, I care little for that, my eye comfort is better provided for with larger display and higher refresh rate (which irritates me a bit with he ASUS handhelds as they need to be 16:10 like the LG and SD as those big borders at the top and bottom make the screen feel even smaller), I mean less vram related hitching or just running full stop due to ram requirements.
    If there was a 24GB+ version of the LG that had those edges rounded a bit, I'd have grabbed that over the Ally X without even thinking about it, but that said, I do think both are great options, though I am leaning more towards the LG, especially as I just remembered, you don't get a case even for the extra cost like you do with the SD and LG for less, plus the bottom port is so much better for docked mode on my JSAUX 12-in-1 dock as its much cleaner (at least when using the right angled side on lead that came with the previous version, though a right angled adapter does make the AX look a bit tidier :D).
    I will add that I tend to use the current AMD drivers and manually install the 780M driver on both as they seem to perform better in my personal experience.

    Personal opinion, you should mention which version of freesync/gsync as they both have different tiers with differnet operating fps ranges

    I have a Legion Go and I'm happy with It but if I didn't have one and if I could buy one again I would get the Ally X. More RAM and battery is what I need.
    Yet not enough to invest in a new system right now. I'll wait a few years for a new generation of handhelds capable of moving AAA games in ultra.

    Legion Go by far for me. It's just simply awesome.

    Why is the VRAM usage on the Legion Go so much lower than the Ally X? That’s curious, is Lenovo limiting the size of the VRAM allocation for the iGPU? Just found it interesting that the Ally X had almost twice as much VRAM being used in your tests.

    I have a legion go ubtil last november. I like it but there's issus and stutter on screen, with fsr 3.0 it run well. My brother bought the white ally and he as no stutter.

    I prefer the screen and detachable controller on legion go but will choose ally for its 80wh battery

    I keep my Ally X's VRAM allocation in AUTO so when I dock it with my RTX 4090, it has the full 24GB of system RAM (which it needs). AUTO is only a problem on it if you're not closing out background tasks and letting the system RAM get above 16GB usage.

    You forgot to mention that Armoy Crate has per game Gamepad control, working TDP controls and really responsive quick menu. Legion Space TDP is still broken after 9 Months (try setting it to 13W or 20W), also bugs with Gamepad controlls etc. Also the go got a native Portrat screen that causes problems in some games and no AFMF posible, where the Ally has native Landscape.

      I’ve had a legion go for 4 months now since day one setting it to 13 or 20 or any watts works perfectly for me. Idk if it’s another persons system why it won’t set but mine works amazing.

      These are nitpicks at best. TDP setting works just fine, as do all modern games since the past 20 years or so, portrait or no. And who even needs AFMF when you have Lossless Scaling?

    I bought the steam deck and sold it for the OG rog ally, which I then sold for the legion, and then sold it on ebay. Now i have nothing but my phone. Wish I wasn't so indecisive 😞
