There are no real bad cameras these days. Especially full frame. Enjoy photography how you want and what you like. So much choice with the good and bad stuff.
wrong... there are 3 groups of people.. 1 that enjoys taking photo and learning to be better. 2 that only like to talk about gear.. compare gear.. spend their time looking at specs and numbers but never really take photos.. 3 only post negative, hateful comments about other people's photo and either dont take photos or they are not any better.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the technology of the gear and I get why people are talking about or making videos about it. It is so easy to make headlights and searchable content. Heck, I do it from time to time as well and fantasize about getting a new camera or switch systems. But I have to remind myself, that I can get the result I want with what I allready have.
This may not be the most exciting camera to use but it is the best value camera for sure. I own the a7Riv, a6400, a6300, zv1 and some nikon and keica film cameras and the lumix became my everyday camera for the value it delivers at it's price point. Those lenses are tack sharp and it was genius to make them all the same size. I now have only one CPL + ND filter and I only carry 3 lenses with me (18+35+85) or (16-28+28-70+85) and I don't get the analysis paralysis of having to change between so many lenses and filters. Plus I use this camera for both video and photo. The value this camera provides is unbeatable. I was a Sony user since 2007 but to be honest, we have a Sony bubble right now. Yes, they're excellent cameras but the prices are ridiculous.
I own the predecessor, the LUMIX S5, and I am already very satisfied with this camera. The UX is great, the image quality is superb and the AF is great for my use case (travel and street). The S5II is a pretty tempting camera, especially in the all-black version, but a) it’s a little bit too big for my personal taste (the S5 is the maximum I like to tolerate when it comes to camera dimensions) and b) my impression is that the S5II is meant for Videographers who sometimes need or like to shoot photos, too. In my case, I am a 100% photographer with absolutely no interest in videography, this means the camera isn’t meant for me. It would be nice if Panasonic would develop a small, photography-centric camera with a “rangefinder” design, similar to the Fuji X-Pro series but with a fullframe sensor and the LUMIX UX. But I assume this won’t happen, as Panasonic tends more and more towards the video crowd. Bad for me, good for others😅. Thanks a lot for the video, Perre😃👍! Have a wonderful Christmas time and a great start into the new year😉✌️👋!
Agree. A Lumix FF rangefinder-style body would be my dream camera (like a FF GX9). Paired with the compact Sigma F2 primes or the mini Samyang F1.8 primes, beautiful.
I have both the S5 I and the S5 IIX They are practically the same size. I am not selling my S5 I. It is still a great camera. As I planned for a 2 camera setup I got the S5 IIX Otherwise the only reasons a photographer might go for the S5 II (you don't need the X for photography) is for: The Improved AF The 200 photos buffer (compared to around 25) Basically now you can use the Panasonic for event and wedding photography.
Hi Pierre, i really do like the LIVE VIEW COMPOSITE feature, i like shooting Fireworks and it's great to see the process as you are shooting long exposure. This would save a lot of time and the photographer can take more photos this way. Having a Fan in the camera is great, keeping the camera cool, i am a FAN of this feature 🤣. Thanks for all your great videos throughout the year and showing us the latest and greatest in lenses and cameras. Seasons greetings and good health. 😊
Had that camera been out when I bought my A7iii, I would have gone for it. Now I bought the A7iv but only because I'm only in the Sony environment and it's good enough. Panasonic was revolutionary with their video features ten years ago. They just made one big mistake with their autofocus. Now that that's back on track, I think they'll produce the best hybrid cameras again.
honnête , précis, efficace et avec des bon shoot et des exemples sur le terrain pas comme d autre youtubeur qui d écrive la Camara sans bouger de chez eux. merci et bonne année
Thanks for the review! I like the camera. It definitely has many features that I haven't seen in other cameras. One of my favorites is the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. Happy holidays from Chicago!
Nice thing about AF boxes is that you can quickly switch between them by pressing the joystick button and this is something I missed a lot when I switched from Lumix to Sony. Now back to Lumix and happy again ;p
I purchased S5II based on the RUclips reviews, photos shared on Flickr, posts on forums etc. The main factor for me was its low light performance, colours, LUTs and its price. AF was not a big concern for me until I got countless FALSE POSITIVES. Basically, while the camera is telling you that it is LOCKED ON to the subject, it produces blurry images and sometimes, it is focusing on other subjects. The issue with the false positives makes the camera unreliable because I can not check every single photo to see whether the camera was able to capture what it was focusing on. Beside this, although my primary use case is not videography, I tested the cameras video focus performance as a complete noob and it was much better. I wonder how this camera can process 25 images per second and lock on target while it is generating a considerable amount of false positives for stills.
@@engineer4862 And it still produces lots of false positives and blurry images? Is that in continous autofocus with human eye etc selected? I'm considering buying the S52 , and the reports are fw3.0 solved a lot if the autofocus issues but I'd be interested to hear more
hi pierre, im looking for a camera, i want to spend around 800€ and im totally in love with sony: a7ii, a7iii... i think i want one of those two but isnt the a7ii a bit old already? and the a7iii goes wayy off budget. what would you recomend? even outside of the a7 or sony? pd: i have a super old cannon EOS40D, wich is not terrible when light is nice. but i want video too
Really love the current generation of Panasonic cameras. My only real complaint at the moment is that they don't yet offer a good entry level cinema body. The Eva-01 just doesn't live up to some of the other offerings on the market, and really if they'd just slap an S5 Mk2 into that form factor sony style (looking at you Fx6) I think they'd tap into a a whole other market.
I started off my photography journey with the Lumix system. From the G85, to the G9 and finally to the S1R... i tried to fall in love with the system but it just wasnt for me! 🎯📸
Weird, unless they gave you a special, dark, edition of the S5II you're actually using the S5IIX. If it's the X it's strange that you don't mention it in the video.
That's basically the same camera, with more video formats and external recording. Just for 200bucks more, that's a steal considering high performance SD prices
There was a video about 6 months ago where Pierre was shopping for cameras in Japan, and it really showed that he doesn't know much about cameras. He is very skilled at PHOTOGRAPHY, but he really lacks in knowledge about gear
Warning for wildlife shooters: There are no long, fast lenses. There is the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports but there's nothing faster. So people who really like taking wildlife images and videos will be limited. If there is a fast long lens I don't know about, I would love to hear it. For just about anything else, it seems like a real bargain.
It’s coming but should note that there are adaptors for cannon glass. I’ve used it and it works just fine. But I’d rather wait for a sigma or native lens.
@@EmeraldAudiovisual I have looked into that. There are problems with autofocus speed. There are some lenses that are problematic. Combination of ibis and lens stabilization is problematic for longer lenses. I don't think that any converter exists that is without issues, though the metabones converters are pretty good. I have bought and used a lot of converters, and they are never as good as native performance (though speedboosters can give new capabilities). On the other hand, it's still a decent stopgap until the real L mount lenses become available. I have plenty of really nice EF glass, but I'll just use my Canon 5Ds for that. For the same reason, I am not keen to use EF glass even on Canon R mount cameras. It's possible that firmware updates can fix most of the problems, but I would have to be convinced that all of the issues have been addressed.
Warning Sony shooters, the AF for photography is absolutely chaotic and jumps around. For video it will loose focus if hand gets in frame while filming. With that said it absolutely dominates Sony when it comes to features. Sold my a7s3 for one and don't regret it as I kept my OG Sony A7r3 for photos
Every well know you tuber is now pushing the Panasonic..but no of them are using it….Seems so Panasonic needs help,to,find some people who will buy this camera😉
Absolutely - if a product is good, you don’t need to pay influencers to promote it. Tbey must be paying these guys a TON because all the big YT’ers have been putting g up sponsored content. I posted on my channel the other day about it.
@@kissu_io Lenses aren't the issue. With Sigmas EF to L adapter, you have access to the full Canon EF portfolio. AF works perfectly. I've actually no L lenses. I use EF on the S5-II X.
Bravo Lumix! All new cameras and Lenses are good. I am not even a potential buyer! All too expensive, too big, too heavy! I never needed a Motor drive! Too many images! It's waste of MY time! For those who need all hoohah, wonderful! My gear old, reliable, some of it never ever needed battery. Interesting..
They were 10 years late with this camera. In 2013, I had another thought. why don't they take a full frame? And I bought a sony a7. There is no turning back now...
Beware! Neither this video nor any other video mentions that very few photo editing softwares can read the S5II's and (X) RAW files (it's been many months since release but very few programs have native support). You probably will have to convert the files somehow before you'll be able to use them.
@@AIP404 A friend of mine who uses Lightroom wasn't able to open my files some months ago but apparently they've included support, nice. I'm still waiting for the Affinity programs to add support and it's possible that other smaller softwares don't have it.
