I was there when the flame was lit, 11/25/1963, as part of the US Coast Guard Honor Guard. I was in the Funeral Cortege and the Ceremonial Platoon at the Gravesite.
respect to you sir
My family was living in Norfolk, VA and we would visit relatives every other summer in Fort Myer adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery. They took us to visit the gravesite in the summer of 1964. I was 9 years old and remember it was surrounded by a white picket fence with hats of the various military services surrounding the grave. I also had the opportunity to see JFK when he visited Norfolk in 1962 as he got off Marine One. I didn't visit the gravesite again until 1978 when I was in the navy. RFK's gravesite was nearby and was marked by a simple white cross.
I'd love to see this but we won't be able to make it in person, will this be recorded & posted on here later for all to see?
