I genuinely wonder if people ever get tired of their obsession with pressuring the Church to drop its teachings, to change, to conform to the modern world. It's like... no one is forcing you to be Catholic. Why be so insistent on remaking the Church in your own image? That's an evil intention.

Why not? Why shouldn't people question what they see as problematic with the Church given that the collective Church itself has no issues giving its opinions on what it sees as problems with the secularised, modern world? Is it evil only when others do it?

@@weseye9906 Speaking as someone who grew up Southern Baptist, I admittedly have little exposure to or understanding of Catholicism. I don't mean to disrespect you or your faith, but I have to ask...
You said, "we follow what God wants not what men want. God established the sacraments and the commandments. That will not change. Ever." But actually, we've seen many changes to the Gospel and changes to church doctrine (yours and mine) over the centuries haven't we?
Just for example, no one really thinks the King James version of the Bible is heretical, just because it differs slightly from other versions of the Bible. "Version" necessarily stipulates "changes." And that's with the Word itself.
So when you talk with certainty about the unchanging nature of the sacraments and the commandments, it seems to be without an acknowledgment of history and of how change has already touched your faith and mine in the nearly two thousand years since Christ died for our sins.
The commandments in particular had to be transcribed from God's voice to a man's language, onto tablets. But the original text of the tablets have since been repeated and copied over generations in many languages. They have been studied by linguists who try to translate earlier or later copies of the commandments.
The version of the commandments we read in Bibles today are the end result of countless filters, translations, and conclaves negotiating their current (possibly final) form. I'm not saying God was not always guiding this process, always giving divine clarity to the men who oversaw the journey of the commandments to our most recent version of them.
But I guess I am saying for us to dismiss the fallibility of human beings and their role in bringing us the commandments as we know them today seems arrogant and haughty--human frailties that any version of Christianity understands to be perilous and ungodly.

Damn this journalist went on an activist mission not on a interview mission... so many intended misinterpretations and misquotations I could number a few:
    1st : The Pope didnt say " Who am I to judge in term of homosexual activity and relationships" there is a context , in which he said if "someone who happens to be homosexual confesses, repents, wants to live in the faith and is redeemed from sin , who am I to judge?!" which is accoding to Church doctrine and the media purposefully edited and missed out and widespread;
2nd: "The Pope didnt wlecome on a gala lunch transexuals alone: " he received homeless people, prostitutes and everyone and between that lives in the margins of society in whcih a few transsexuals were included in the group" stop pretendind this was a dedicated theme lunch , it was a mercifull and welcoming lunch to everyone
3rd :"stop keeping purposefully misinforming people on regard of fidducia suplicans , like the Pope said" he didnt allow blessings to same sex unions, if only you reporters dared to read the document, do your job and informed people instead of being activists of the progressive agenda you woulndt have been embarrased yourselves...
4th : "the Pope has always been clear about women not being ordained deacons or priests" this isn´t protestantism , this is the Catholic Church that is faithfull to its apostolic doctrine
Regarding emigration doesn´t this journalist know the difference between refugees and migrants (legal or illegal) someone fleeing persecution is a refugee , the world sees this being diluted time and time again and are aware you are following and agenda
Its funny that i saw many clips that you purposefully left out... such is the embarrassment of wanna be journalists

My understanding is that The Church only agreed to do this interview if it had both input into the translation and the editing of the content as well as final say over the ultimate publication of the interview. The Church also required the questions to be submitted in advance of the meeting and (according to CBS) even returned edits to the phrasing of some of the questions to be more respectful or less confrontational.
BTW, I think The Church was both justified and smart to impose these terms. The media has an anti-religious bias and it would be chronically self-destructive for The Church not to require its oversight and approval in exchange for access Pope Francis.

Norah O’Donnell is bringing up all progressive questions. Global warming, women having more “power” in the church. I can’t believe she uses the word power. That is not what Catholic Church is all about. It is not about individual power. It is about the body of Christ, the Church. It is to follow the Word of God and His teachings. The Catholic Church , since the apostles has appointed men to be shepherds of the Catholic Church as Christ was and is . The priest becomes Christ “ in persona” during the Mass and in confession. How could a woman do that?
Nora also pushes the questions about birth control and surrogate motherhood. Yes, it is sad if a mother cannot conceive. But we cannot change through manipulation of science in a Petrie dish, (IVF) and another woman giving birth to a baby and giving the baby to another woman. It is the birth mother’s child. If the parent’s eggs and sperm were implanted, again man is manipulating outcomes in a persons life. God gives the gift of life, a baby , to a woman conceived in love between a husband and his wife. That is the teaching of the Catholic Church.

True Facts: Amoris Laetitia contradicts the mandate of Jesus & 2,000 years of perennial Magisterial teaching that forbids divorce & re-marriage. The end result is for adulterous couples committing sacrilege. Fiducia Supplicans condones the blessing of same-sex couples - what Cardinal Muëller rightfully calls"blasphemous". Abhu Dhabi heretically states that "God wills a plurality of religions". The list goes on & on. Does Bergoglio hate people who are in adulterous relationships and people who have same-sex attractions and people who follow false religions? He must not care about these people who are in a state of mortal sin and being led to hell.
JESUS, St Paul & the Church are crystal clear about confronting and fighting against false doctrine that will inevitably come.

As a Catholic born in the 1950's we grew up with the depth of Catholic mysteries. Though we thought we we were modern and worldly here in the United States, truth is the world and other cultures were a mystery. Love the media or hate the media, the miracle of the media is how much it has opened our eyes to the world and other cultures. There is much of an information overload in our minds. So many ideologies have become forms of idolatry. Any ideology besides the Church cannot be put on a pedestal above the church. We cannot be beholden to anything but the Church.

Doctrines ? Why pray to Mary or the dead saints when the bible forbids these things?
One mediator between God and man , the man Christ Jesus..
Yet the Roman doctrines teach Mary was born sinless , and is a co redemtrix . Which is against the scripture I stayed above.
The pope said everyone is fundamentally good yet the bible says no one is good not one. The heart is deceitfully wicked who can know it. So saying that all people are fundamentally good is going against the very scriptures that the Catholic church teaches they brought together.
It's seducing people with flattery and lies and claiming that the Catholic church can make up doctrine because they are infallable is terrible.

No only a thousand years. The Church of Rome broke off from the five churches in the east. They broke apostolic succession.

@@marym.338 No, The Catholic Church founded by St. Peter no longer existed in 1054 A.D. since the Church of Rome broke apostolic succession. They started making the sign of the cross differently from the eastern orthodox christian churches and they started beliefs like purgatory that doesn't exist and gives false hope and said the Holy Mother of God was not cleansed because she was not baptised and that she was born of immaculate conception like Christ was. After 1054 A.D. there were popes who had children and over the hundreds of years rampant pedophilia and murders have been happening at the vatican. The only true holy apostolic faith is the eastern orthodox faith handed down by the apostles through Christ's teachings.

My understanding is that The Church only agreed to this interview on the condition that it had final say over the edits and final version of the interview that CBS was allowed to broadcast.
You're right about it being highly curated, but the Catholic Church, not the media, did the curating.
(BTW, I think this was the right decision for the Church to make. Why give the media any leeway to smear the Church?)

The Church wouldn't have needed to impose such conditions unless the media hadn't repeatedly demonstrated such blatant anti-religious bias. :)

@@YAYSandwich I heard a recap on a 60 minutes TV commercial, however, I was able to find this on the Catholic WORDONFIRE website, which is referring to the Vatican's official policy on media outreach, which confirms the controls I referenced, if in much softer language:
"In addition to content creators and consumers of media, the document speaks of the role of public authority in promoting the common good, including in the media. It affirms the freedom of the press but also implores public authority “to exercise a fitting and careful watch lest grave damage befall public morals and the welfare of society through the base use of these media.”11
Members of the Church, too-clergy and laity alike-are tasked with making good use of media for the advancement of apostolic endeavors.12 “Therefore, this sacred Synod advises them of the obligation they have to maintain and assist Catholic newspapers, periodicals and film projects, radio and television programs and stations, whose principal objective is to spread and defend the truth and foster Christian influence in human society.”13 In other words, use media to promote the Gospel and support good media outlets, especially Catholic ones."
