@@giannisfragos722 You're lucky and I'm glad to hear this! When I went to school in the 2000s (I'm assuming you're younger than me) we barely touched the topic of Greek royalty. I believe it had to do with the government of the time and how they ran the educational system and political propaganda they wanted to pass through our young impressionable heads.
It's so interesting that learning about one family can really give a history lesson about the world wars! Queen Alexandrine of Denmark's mother Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna would be a fun video topic. As a young widow she gambled, partied, and had an illegitimate child she actually raised. During WWI her sympathies were with the allies even though her other daughter was the Kaiser's daughter-in-law and her son was Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Shwerin. 3 of her brother's were killed by the Bolsheviks.
Another fun fact: During WW2, Hitler wrote a long personal letter to the king of Denmark to congratulate him on his birthday. King Christan the 10th simply responded with "Many thanks" (so basically, today's equivalent to "k") and Hitler got so furious, he was about to go beserk on Denmark. Sad that you did not mention Alexandra’s eldest child and daughter Maria. Yes, Dmitry is known for bing of the conspirators to kill Rasputin. However, Maria had a very interesting life too. My Family History(noone cares but I like to write it here on this channel because its history)one of my ancestors was a lady in waiting for Louise of Hesse-Kassel,the wife of Christian IX!Their are still records that my mother has, apparently she wrote a letter to the Prince that she wasn't enjoying it and if she could leave,he invited her to stay in the Palace and sparked a small romance before leaving to go back to the Palace, she hated it even more and after 10 years she ran away to Eastern Denmark, she was Louise's favourite lady in waiting and loved her so she sent exactly 35 guards to find her, they did and she was brought back to the Palace, after a year Louise started disliking her so my ancestor legit moved to Norway, where was found again and imprisoned, she only had 1 child and died age 46 in 1863. Her son was 25 and moved to Germany, where he got married to a noble, however my family didn't have records of her,he wanted to never have kids which was unlikely back then, but when he was 52,his wife was 46,his wife unexpectedly got pregnant and she died in childbirth in 1889,her husband died in 1910. That baby that was born in 1889 is the mother to my great grandmother,he wanted to marry a poor farm girl, but his father didn't approve so he ran away in 1905 with the girl who was 3 years older, they went to Monaco and stayed their until moving to Asia in 1914,they came back to Monaco in 1937 and left again in 1939 because of the war, they were scared people would come to tgwir country so as soon as it was declared they left, came back to Monaco in 1947 and stayed their, they moved to England in 1960 and came back to Monaco in 1970,1 years later his wife died and he died another 4 years later in 1975 age 86,crazy enough his daughter,my great grandma died in 2014 when I was 21!She always told me that despite life being hard in the 1910's she loved it and said she'd always go back!

I think there are some inaccuracies on Hakon during WWII. He did not refuse to abdicate but actually offered to abdicate if his cabinet gave into the demands of the Germans of appointing a German collaborator, Quisling as head of a new puppet government that would in turn legitimize the invasion. He also did not flee towards Sweden because he was threatened with incarceration if he crossed the border since the Swedes wanted to protect their neutrality. He was eventually evacuated by the British at Tromso.
@@MarNorMi unfortunately she was the daughter of a King and at the time High born royals weren’t allowed to marry commoners. Wasn’t until decades later when it was more acceptable. So not that simple and Denmark wasn’t the only country where that would happen in.
@@christinaj.jensen4805 I removed my previous comment because, although some comments seem to confuse the two Thyras, aunt and niece, the video doesn't. - As regards royals being allowed to marry commoners or low aristocratics, there has never been a hard and fast rule (look at some earlier centuries of royal houses of different countries too), but considerable pressure was put on, of course. A lot depended on whether those wanting to marry just gave up status and fortune, apparently, in cases where the intended spouse could/would not at all be accepted. And if they were determined and didn't give a damn, they could put it through. Look at Julia Hauke, who was successfully 'incorporated' into high aristocracy of Hessen. Mind you, she was aristocratic, but not high enough on the scale. - Much had to do with politics. In Denmark-Norway, the succession was supposed to be strightly agnatic (through men only), but when they were in need, they turned to the women. And not all those Danish kings were actually the biological children of their mothers' kingly spouses. But they had intelligent and resourceful fathers - high-class servants, in fact - and it worked out quite well!
@@MarNorMi yes, I know. Only ONE other woman, before our current Queen, was as close to being a female monarch, without actually being the monarch. And that was Margrethe the I. The only surviving child of King Valdemar Atterdag of Denmark. She was married off to the King of Norway at the age of 10, but when her father died leaving no heirs, she suggested naming her son Olav as King of Denmark and Norway, with her as regent, because Olav was still underage. Uniting the two kingdoms in a union that would last until 1814. But never was she named Queen nor recognized as the monarch, even after Olav died, because the nobility refused to recognize her as Queen. Despite the fact that she was the brains behind the Kalmar Union. They only let her continue as a regent, if she could produce an heir. She luckily found a Way without marrying again, by adopting her sister’s son, who later became King Erik of Pommern. The reason why we Call her “Margrethe the I” today, even though she wasn’t the monarch, is because of our current Queen Margrethe. As the first recognized female monarch of Denmark, she per tradition would have been expected to take the regnal name Margrethe the I, but in order to honoring her namesake’s legacy, she took the name Margrethe the II. Very honorable to do. The few times Kings have married “to left hand” as it was called when they married a commoner, they weren’t named Queen. And the last King who married a commoner, King Frederik the VII, was also by the time of his third marriage, where everyone had accepted he would never have children and they eventually named Christian the IX his successor, whose claim to the throne was only as strong as it was, because his wife, who had a higher claim than him, signed it over to Christian. Another thing is, daughters May not have been in consideration to the throne at that time. But they were practically seen as tools to form political alliances. Thyra was no different, and seeing as it would be seen as a huge scandal for the Danish royal family at the time, if it was revealed she had a child out of wedlock, at the same time when the father was a commoner. At that time, it was not going to be accepted. It might have been today in 2020, but not in the 1870s.

I love all of Lindsay’s videos. I am a fan of historical aristocracy. It’s SO interesting, and full of Drama, lol.
Ps- I also found the Girl in the Tiara. Love these!💕
The grown of Finland never went anywhere, because Finland didn´t want the royal family to have an word of Finland´s politics. Even thought both of them where offered and one was chosen to be the King, he never became the king of Finland. So I get why you say "sort lived grown", instead saying the grown was offered to him, but instead they did choose the german prince who actually never became the king of Finland.
As Finnish myself that just hit my ear.
Repeated typo? Did you mean crown not grown?
i love your monarchy videos!
I remember admiring King Christian X of Denmark when I read Number the Stars in 5th grade. It’s such a good book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Thank you!
I love your videos Lindsay 😊
As an extra loop to the Greek story, King Constantine (the current one) is married to the youngest sister of Queen Margrethe of Denmark, Annemarie.
I love these videos so much!
Thank you these videos :)
Yes queen thank you for this!!!
Thank you Lindsay 🌷
I've very much enjoyed these Danish videos. Cheers.
Fun fact: Prince Nicholas's daughter, Princess Marina duchess of Kent, was the last foreign Princess to marry a British prince.
These videos are the highlight of my bedtime routine ☺️😌
i love these videos, you are amazing lindsay!
Wow!!!!! Really interesting. It's surprising to know that valdemar's three sons actually married outside royalty and aristocracy.
25:14 photo of Axel could be easily mistaken for Count Felix von Luckner.
Felix von Luckner?
Yes. Of the "Sea Adler" windjammer commerce raider during WWI
Haakon the 7th sounds like an amazing king!
Margarite was so much fun from what I have read. Naughty like a child until the end of her life. She would have been lovely to know personally.
Lindsay Can You Do is American President Descendent of King John of England
pressed like before i even started watching!
I LOVE your videos! Besides simply loving history in general, your videos give me hope that we in the USA can and will survive this nightmare time in our country. When I see what some of these historic figures had to survive, the strength of the human spirit amazes me. Many Blessings to all! 🙏🏻💜👼🏻✝️😇😷
One thing: Christian X didn't join the Navy, but instead the Army.
Very true. And he was very disappointed that his son, Frederik, didn't join the Army as well. But he was a naval man through and through.
Sad that you did not mention Alexandra’s eldest child and daughter Maria. Yes, Dmitry is known for bing of the conspirators to kill Rasputin. However, Maria had a very interesting life too. Born into wealth, she was first married to a Swedish and Norwegian prince, but that was unhappy. She was a nurse during WWI, after the revolution she managed to get out of Russia. In the 1920´s she opened a famous atelier Kitmir and worked with Coco Chanel.
Your videos are awesome. Will you continue Queens of the World Series Lindsay? I'd like to listen different queens around the World from you.
Louise of Sweden looks like one of those premade Sims in the neighborhood that you really don't want anyone to marry because they are really weird looking and going to make weird looking sims-children.
Can you do Mary queen of scots
The Norwegian movie Kongens Nei, The King's No, about Haakon and the flight from occupied Norway, is a a really good movie. Danish actor Jesper Christiansen, is a dead ringer for the Haakon in that movie.
I'm completely lost because HAD SO MANY ALEXANDRA'S, ok they like to honor older ones, but for god's sake, that's too much.
9pm. My granddaughter is Alexis
Princess Alice of Battenberg was a beautiful young woman!!
Please do the Dutch and Portuguese royal families !!!
I gotta say, you watch enough of these videos and immerse yourself, you start creating a bubble where it’s ONLY European royal families in the world and no one else 🤣
Excellent series of videos. I'm impressed with the accuracy of pronouncing Dagmar in Danish, well done! However, the correct and not at all logical way to pronounce "Aage" is something like the English word "owe" with the "e" somewhat pronounced at the end, maybe more like "oweh".
Is no one gonna comment on how fine Phillip was when he was young?!
Ooh yes, a Greek God.
Will u do the Russian royal family one day?
Thanks for sharing
Great videos
Nice A family photo
2.42 Any reason for not mentioning the prime minister's name?
Carl Th. Zahle.
Holy Schnikies Louise looks hard-core buff as f**k. Wait, she was "strict" you say? 😳 She's got the face of a Disney Villian
Can you make a video on Queen Ingrid?
Thank you for sharing
Sorry as a Belgian I have to react .. It's King Boudewijn en our current King is King Filip. (you misspelled them)
No she didn't, internationally our kings are known by the french version of their name.
He is know as Filip and Philippe. The second name is just his French name. Not the name he is know by internationally.
I love my queen Margrethe. It's fun to learn all this history of the royal family of my country
Excelente producción.
So what happened to Thyra’s daughter???
She was adopted to a Danish family and nothing else is really known about her.
Please be wary of your rhythm when narrating. With so much text, it is vital that it changes once in a while for an unnatural pace not to become distracting.
Otherwise, I really like your channel and your content, and would like to watch more of them.
I love this biography
Thanks
