  • Rio's Single Handed Spey line is my favourite fly line when walk and wade fly fishing for bass. When I'm wade fishing small creeks like this one, I like to use a spey tapered fly line to help with reaching further when there is limited back cast room.
    Gear Used:
    Rod: Sage Payload (#7 weight)
Line: Rio Single Handed Spey Line (#7 weight)

LOVED this one, Peachy! Cricket ball/ping pong ball analogy was a cracker! Love the focus pulls and stuff on the “big” camera too. A refreshing change from a GoPro view of the world. One of these days I’ll have to master the Spey thing. Maybe next lifetime. 😂

Thanks mate! Was good to shoot some stuff on the nice camera for a change. Yeah spey is fun, it's a whole other world but not too hard to get the basics. How are the bass going down your way, are they eating on the surface yet? Would love to get down your way for a fish soon... ;)

@@PeachyFlyFishing I've done SO little bass fishing this season, and I'm regretting it. Been running around doing too much other stuff and then when I've had the time to do it, the river has mostly been high, dirty and/or in full flood... And now Tasmania beckons again! Too many fish, too little time! 🙄

@StarloGetsReel I guess that’s a good problem to have! :) Let’s catch up when you get back.

Great demonstration of the benefits of spey casting where your back cast is limited. I’ll have to give it a go. Nice bass too! Showed the effectiveness of letting your fly just sit there in the strike zone 👍

Thanks mate! Yeah the bass definitely have moods, but particularly in still water with no flow they really take their time….. ;)

Cheers Carl! Those land based bass on fly spots are pretty rare around here, wonder if there’s any down your way? Ps. Don’t reveal the locations! ;)

I’ve been a bit lazy lately and have gone back to the conventional tackle for the Bass. It’s helped me learn more about our local fish and get some numbers up, but in the back of my mind I’m feeling like it’s time to go back to fur and feathers. Thanks for the inspiration

Awesome! Yes they can be a challenge on fly, they are easier on spin gear. But when you do get them on the fly they are fantastic fun! :)

Yes they are really thick ones that I like to wear when wet wading in light pants, they’re from a company called hunters element. Only thing is they are zip up and fairly tight fit so try them on before you buy….
