Fly Fishing Thompsons Creek Dam - THIS made all the difference!

  • Fly fishing lakes in winter is so much fun, one of my favourite ways to fish! Thompsons Creek Dam has a reputation for being a difficult fishery at times, and particularly when you have a flat calm glass out, but it's great being able to polaroid big fish cruising in close to the shore!
    It's often the case that fly selection is much less important than presentation, but this particular day proved to be very much the exception to the rule - if you weren't fishing with the "magic bullet" then your chances were very low.....

    Tough fishing up there Peachy.
    Back to where I met you.
    Only had two days up there this winters because our local lake is fishing so well.
    Thanks for the video mate.

      Would that blob/fab work early season on the rivers ?

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks mate! I’ve never tried a blob in the river, I would think that perhaps at the very end of season when the spawn run is starting on somewhere like the Eucumbene or Thredbo it could work……good question! :)

    Good one Peachy, I've used the Blob a bit down here in Tassie with not much luck yet mate

      Cheers Shane! Yeah it’s certainly not a pattern that seems to work everywhere all the time, but when it’s hot it’s really hot…

    Really enjoyed this one! Must say, I'd have been tempted to throw a single, unweighted Glo Bug in front of those "false spawners" up in the shallows. I have a hunch they're taking those awful bloody "Blobs" and things as big clumps of roe... not much else looks like that or is that colour!

    • @PeachyFlyFishing
      @PeachyFlyFishing  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks Steve! Yeah I suspect you're right mate they probably most resemble a clump of roe, though intriguingly they work as well if not better when retrieved, sometimes quite fast! I think that more than anything else it's just the particular colour that triggers an aggression response over the winter months, and it's because of it's similarity to the colour of the roe....

    Glassy days at TCD mean you always going to work hard for your fish...

      Yeah absolutely mate, I've always done much better there with a bit of wind. :)
