Darwin Fly Fishing - I Wasn't Expecting This!

- Saltwater Fly Fishing in the Northern Territory, like many places, can be tough or it can be insane, sometimes all in the one day. Getting a good local guide up in these waters is definitely a worthwhile investment, and Glenn Watt from Barefoot Fishing Safaris is a great bloke who knows these waters like the back of his hand. There are a huge range of species up north, and it's perfectly feasible to catch queenfish, trevally, barramundi, longtail tuna, bream, fingermark, mangrove jack, cod, saratoga, spanish mackerel and a whole host of other toothy critters in a day's fishing.

Hey Steve, that was a great session on the queenies. Nothing beats the sound of a screaming reel. Cheers, Pete
Thanks Pete! Yeah queenies are just so much fun, awesome underrated sport fish I reckon…thanks for watching mate. :)
Great vid Peachy. Those harbour queenies have saved my day many-a-time!
Thanks mate! Yeah they are awesome….I would’ve got in touch with you but I only had the one day to fish this time, lightning trip….hopefully next time we can catch up for a fish. :)
@@PeachyFlyFishing I live across the top in Nhulunbuy, please let us know if you're ever this way.
Mate I definitely will let you know, not sure if and when but I would sure love to visit that part of the country!
Thanks for a fun day Peachy and great video mate. much appreciated.
Ah cheers Glenn! Had a ball mate, hope I get a chance to do it again. :)
Looks like a great outing
It was! Thanks for watching. :)
Absolutely awesome!
Really hectic.. that rod is taking a lot of abuse.. jeez.. what brand and weight is that?
You got skills mate 100%!!!
Thanks Jason! Yeah it really copped a bit that day, the rod is a Sage Salt HD, 9’ and #9 weight. They have newer models out now, similar would be the R8 Salt or even the Igniter if you want a really fast rod. :)
Hi ya Peachy - been a while. Good to see the videos back. Even a small Barra fights well on the fly. Jeremy
Thanks Jeremy! Yeah it takes me a while to edit them, plenty more to come when I get time! :)
@@PeachyFlyFishingI never fished when I was up there but I have been to Batchelor, which is not far from Darwin.
Great queenie session.
Thanks mate, yeah it was pretty nuts! ;)
Top stuff, Steve. Bit sore in the crook of the elbow next day ?
Little bit, the thumbnail was sore for a while though, it’s grown back now… ;)
jeeese a sore thumb from winding, hard times m8 LOL, well done.
Haha! It was more the partially missing thumbnail that was giving me grief! 😂 thanks mate.
Good stuff Steve, queenies are mental! I had one taking a fly that was hanging over the transom about a foot above the surface.
Cheers Jeroen, yes they are incredibly aggressive fish, totally nuts!
Couple of trout strikes early on there Steve,😁 but nice work as always mate.
Haha! Yep I try to remember to combine it with a good strip strike… ;) Thanks mate, hope to catch up for a fish soon.
Great trip man 😁
Thanks!
Hi peachy great video I will get up there one day 3 questions what weight line and tippet, Iam looking at using a action camera is the chest mount for the camera ok or would you go some thing different and what type of head gear were you wearing
Gday Lee! It was a 9 wt, 30lb tippet from memory. Yeah chest mount is the best for on body, good to get a camera on a little tripod that’s not stuck to you too though. And the head gear is part of the Simms Solarvent or Solarflex shirt, one of them has an integrated buff. :)
@@PeachyFlyFishing thank's Peachy keep the video's coming particley fly fishing up north thanks
Cheers mate, I don’t get up north nearly as much as I’d like!
Dream fishing 💪
Thanks, yeah it was pretty cool! ;)
As always another great video well done, though it would appear you seem to be a bream magnet.
Thanks Pete, haha I can’t escape them! 😆
Good stuff! You did really well considering the dreaded cool, Dry Season sou' easter! Looks like it puffed pretty solidly at times, too. Top End fishing can be a LOT harder and more fickle than many people realise, but you certainly had the right bloke in Watty. Well done. That spool spin-off was classic! As was your little Riverdance audition! 😆 Love it!
Haha thanks mate! Yeah Glenn was fantastic, great skills and just a good guy to share a boat with, thanks for referring me!
@@PeachyFlyFishing a pleasure.
Hi Steve
What a sensational day! Your vid was timed perfectly ;). I’ll drop you an email mate.

Cheers mate! :)
