I found ‘The Power of Now’ randomly(?) at a book-give-away-shelf early this year and reading the book and listening to Eckhart throughout 2020 made this year transformative for me in a good way. For this, I thank you Eckhart.

They (me included) rely on an image of oneself, proliferated with all sorts of viewpoints, preferences, etc.. Yet, that is not your true Self. Your true Self becomes tangible when you take a seat backwards, so to speak: when you observe your thoughts, then you realise you are not these thoughts, these concepts, these preferences. Your mind/ your brain was just so active that you lost control over it and identified with it. To be Zen, is to overpower your brain with your true Self and not be guided by it, but be able to summon its computal and conceptual powers at wish, like a guided missile. When you don't need it, your true Self can take back control (return back to the here and now) at once.

Another popular Zen saying goes something like this: "before enlightenment the dishes, after enlightenment the laundry". That's why I already wash the dishes manually, ideally using my weaker left hand, so that I can focus my attention completely at the task at hand.

Even if we focus, we can lose a loved one, suffer injury, etc. Suffering still exists, but we handle it better by having our undivided attention on our pain. Blindness causes someone to stumble and tumble, bringing attention to that which you avert yourself from will only help to guide you and prevent unneccessary tumbling. But you can still run into obstacles.
@ To me there is a distinction between pain and suffering. You will experience pain but whether you suffer depends on your state of consciousness. There is a popular quote on that: "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional".

Eckhart is a wonderful man but we find teachings around the power of now in many things. For me I find wise words in many of Rocky balboas teachings, “one punch at a time, one step at a time, one round at a time”.in other words be present in the moment. don’t let your egoic mind distract you from being present in that moment. Otherwise you will be caught out and life is a big hitter and it will keep you down on your knees. Another rocky teaching “keep moving forward”, if we are moving forward in what we do, we stay present we don’t look back, we don’t look far beyond what we can physically see we are moving in the present moment. Rocky is a wise man!!!

Yes I’m where your at. I’m certainly becoming more aware, and it doesn’t happen over night. But it does take practice to consciously become aware. But it feels good to know that we know what we need to do. ✨

This is true of the Buddhist learning process but it's not what Eckhart says here. Instead he urges you do one thing at a time and completely focus on it. It's how to use your attention in everyday life, even when you're not a Buddhist monk.
They both sound the same..each thing requires presence..each step to be completely present in. I was listening while peeling a cucumber and i just started doing it with joy and presence..well a deeper presence since I'm in thep present state most of the time now. There are just different levels.

@@onreact my moment consisted of feeling the entire moment..not rapidly mindlessly multitasking love. I could hear what Eckhart was saying in a semi meditative way, while feeling each time I would peel a slice. it's actually kind of fun when your noticing the feeling of peeling a vegetable with a thick skin. Eckhart was playing to my unconscious while i was doing that and i tuned back in when i was done and had to rewind a bit. I liked hearing him talk in background as I do sometimes. I like Eckharts voice it's calming and makes me feel calm. I hope you understand my moment a little better now and why I chose to let Eckhart talk. Sometimes I will do this while he's speaking. I replay the same talks several times even.Also, How a moment for me, can be like a dance with music in the background or something your doing to the tune of a sound, and still be very present. Women, I've read, are better( or maybe I should say do it differently..) at multi taking than men. I suppose this is why we're mothers. 🤔 😉 🙏✨

I experience unconsciousness most in the morning. And i notice if i go for a walk or bike ride i want everyone to see me (or my ego does) & beep their horn & tell me how amazing i look. Then awareness seeps in & realises in a way, we are all competing for attention with fancy cars & possessions, not just me & my ego. Awareness is the realisation of others, their energy & my own energy too

Yes you are in the present moment already. You just have to notice it by being attentive and by removing distractions (devices, tasks, thoughts). Single-tasking is the easiest way to do it.

They (me included) rely on an image of oneself, proliferated with all sorts of viewpoints, preferences, etc.. Yet, that is not your true Self. Your true Self becomes tangible when you take a seat backwards, so to speak: when you observe your thoughts, then you realise you are not these thoughts, these concepts, these preferences. Your mind/ your brain was just so active that you lost control over it and identified with it. To be Zen, is to overpower your brain with your true Self and not be guided by it, but be able to summon its computal and conceptual powers at wish, like a guided missile. When you don't need it, your true Self can take back control (return back to the here and now) at once.

Another popular Zen saying goes something like this: "before enlightenment the dishes, after enlightenment the laundry". That's why I already wash the dishes manually, ideally using my weaker left hand, so that I can focus my attention completely at the task at hand.

Even if we focus, we can lose a loved one, suffer injury, etc. Suffering still exists, but we handle it better by having our undivided attention on our pain.
Blindness causes someone to stumble and tumble, bringing attention to that which you avert yourself from will only help to guide you and prevent unneccessary tumbling.
But you can still run into obstacles.

@ To me there is a distinction between pain and suffering. You will experience pain but whether you suffer depends on your state of consciousness. There is a popular quote on that: "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional".

There are objective beliefs because there is no reality without them and I love how Mr. Tolle points out one doesn't need to belittle others if they do not yet understand them.

Eckhart is a wonderful man but we find teachings around the power of now in many things. For me I find wise words in many of Rocky balboas teachings, “one punch at a time, one step at a time, one round at a time”.in other words be present in the moment. don’t let your egoic mind distract you from being present in that moment. Otherwise you will be caught out and life is a big hitter and it will keep you down on your knees.
Another rocky teaching “keep moving forward”, if we are moving forward in what we do, we stay present we don’t look back, we don’t look far beyond what we can physically see we are moving in the present moment. Rocky is a wise man!!!

Eckhart's message is so important. But I also like his persona. He seems sweet, kindly. As a beginner, I appreciate the hope.
Like the Buddha said: his training is gradual, like a beach slowly descending under water. One step at a time works best
This is true of the Buddhist learning process but it's not what Eckhart says here. Instead he urges you do one thing at a time and completely focus on it. It's how to use your attention in everyday life, even when you're not a Buddhist monk.
They both sound the same..each thing requires presence..each step to be completely present in. I was listening while peeling a cucumber and i just started doing it with joy and presence..well a deeper presence since I'm in thep present state most of the time now. There are just different levels.

@@onreact my moment consisted of feeling the entire moment..not rapidly mindlessly multitasking love. I could hear what Eckhart was saying in a semi meditative way, while feeling each time I would peel a slice. it's actually kind of fun when your noticing the feeling of peeling a vegetable with a thick skin. Eckhart was playing to my unconscious while i was doing that and i tuned back in when i was done and had to rewind a bit. I liked hearing him talk in background as I do sometimes. I like Eckharts voice it's calming and makes me feel calm. I hope you understand my moment a little better now and why I chose to let Eckhart talk. Sometimes I will do this while he's speaking. I replay the same talks several times even.Also, How a moment for me, can be like a dance with music in the background or something your doing to the tune of a sound, and still be very present. Women, I've read, are better( or maybe I should say do it differently..) at multi taking than men. I suppose this is why we're mothers. 🤔 😉 🙏✨

I experience unconsciousness most in the morning. And i notice if i go for a walk or bike ride i want everyone to see me (or my ego does) & beep their horn & tell me how amazing i look. Then awareness seeps in & realises in a way, we are all competing for attention with fancy cars & possessions, not just me & my ego. @@rupinderh01 IMHO it's a bit earlier - around 3, but the older the kids get the stronger the ego becomes it seems, peaking in the teenage years.

Yes you are in the present moment already. You just have to notice it by being attentive and by removing distractions (devices, tasks, thoughts). Single-tasking is the easiest way to do it.
