Spring Has Sprung! Speckled Trout Bite Is HEATING UP!
Fast & Furious Morning Bite
Been having problems with my trolling motor and power pole. Finally got everything fixed in time for the weekend but the wind didn't cooperate yesterday. This morning, we had single-digit wind and an outgoing tide, so we took advantage of it. Took my brother-in-law fishing for the first time in saltwater.
The morning bite was aggressive. Caught at least 30 undersize trout. Managed 4 slot trout from 15" to 18". Also caught a few flounder. Two slotted at 15" and 16.5". Tried going into the marsh to find some reds to chase a slam, but didn't find any. We went home after about 3 hours of fishing with big smiles.
Spring is definitely in the air!
Tips/Tactics:
Fished the early morning bite on an outgoing tide. Used Marker 54 Glide Shrimp and the new Marker 54 Shrimpers under a popping cork with about 2 feet of the leader line. The new Shrimpers were deadly. They are smaller, so the flounder suck them in further for a good hook set. Also used DSL Chartreuse Flash with a 1/8 Oz jarhead. It's still my go-to color. Caught my larger trout and flounder using the DSL. Only stopped at one bayou, fan cast, and found the fish, and power pole down.
