Watching Douglas Sirk's movies right now on TCM... Magnificent Obsession, Imitation of Life, Written on the Wind, and There's Always Tomorrow.
Absolutely true . . . a very simple truth that is often lost.

I loved All That Heaven Allows. And the pointt he makes could go a long way in ' teaching' some Oscar losers. One good movie this year was murdered by this very fault.
Reminded me of The Avengers and Avatar even though I am a James Cameron fan.
