My favourite line of all time from Friendly Giant was during the episode they were talking about dolls and Jerome the Giraffe said "It isn't very often that you will find a Giant, a rooster and a giraffe talking about dolls."
@@schneegeist He was American-born Canadian so he had dual citizenship. Not that it matters, but we're both right. I did some research and learned the show was first produced in Wisconsin in 1953 then moved to Ontario in 1958. Jerome and Rusty's performer was Canadian, so I'm used to the Canadian version. I had no idea it originated in the states, though. Hmm...learn something new every day.

In a very similar way to "Mr. Dressup" the shows started in the USA (FG in Wisconsin), and both stars were American born that found more success in Canada when both shows moved to the GWN.
Such a simple concept . Three guys just chatting calmly about books and stories and the simple things in life. And the drawbridge always going up and down to the lilting recorder music playing the same tune. So reassuring for the children watching.
Wow, I watched this as a child in the 70s, I was born 1970... I had know idea how long this beautiful children's show had been on the air. It is amazing how much they stuck to the same format. Simply and elegantly arranged. ❤

I still remembered the intro tune to this very day and I finally looked the show up on Y-tube tonight, not actually expecting it to be on here.
I don't understand it because I used to love The Friendly Giant but didn't care at all for Capetian Kangaroo. Thanks for posting this early 60's one, just the time frame I was looking for when I used to watch it. I only watched it until around 6 when we moved from northern Maine to upstate NY. Wasn't available in NY I guess.
I had no idea until I was an adult that Bob Keeshan got his start as Clarabelle on Howdy Doody before doing Captain Kangaroo I almost fell out laughing on The Sopranos Flashback Scene where Johnny & Uncle Jr., get arrested as well as The Clown and the Cop screams "Get In The Van Clarabelle". Also I remember hearing Bob Keeshan narrating The Story about Simon the Boy who drew things and they came true.

Growing up in Detroit I watched this gentle, lovely show on CKLW-TV Windsor. They certainly understood children’s love of fantasy.
