I lived for Church Lady skits back in the day! That's when SNL ruled! ❤
Isn’t that SPECIAL!
Soooo many good SNL eras in the past! So glad I lived in this one 😂
Same..
Could you be . . . SATAN !!!
The Superiority Dance was next level!
holy crap how Phil Hartman looks and sounds exactly like Jimmy Swaggart
played that role perfect
+1 He was brilliant in dozens, maybe hundreds of sketches over the years, but this was next level.
For those too young to remember that entire incident, do yourself a favor and search out "Jimmy Swaggart confesses" on RUclips. Then come back here and watch this... you'll get an even greater appreciation for how spot-on Hartman is here.
That is Al Franken.
@@Collageartist69 I'm pretty sure the OP is referring to Jimmy Swaggart. Franken played Pat Robertson.
@@Collageartist69 I thought that was Al Franken.
I brought his Bible and was ask by the pastor to not bring it back although it had been blessed by a priest
Mon couldn't understand why .... I said it must be all about the Wellerman .... BJ.
Anyone can be forgive except those who denounce Jesus Christ in ANY manner and that results in causing one to sin and harm
BJ's Bible. Crossfire Edition is also good. This Dana carvey is hysterical.💯😂
Phil Hartman was a great actor. Gone but not forgotten .
Jamie Wiesner : RIP, Phil Hartman..gone at the hands of his deranged wife.. Such a tough loss.
rip phil
+James Ricker is as full of shit as one twisted sad little cretinous simpleton could be
Sad...he had to pay his life for his wife's addiction! R.I.P.
@@jamesricker3997 No she was a cocain addict for years. She shot him and then killed herself.
Dana Carvey said that he stopped doing the Church Lady because he started having dreams that he was Becoming the Church Lady.....
It was the sensible shoes...
@@sheLovesG And the industrial old lady hosiery, stuffed with tissue paper.
lol!!
well, isn't that special?
JOEJOE JOEJOEJOEJOE oh dangit you beat me to it
It's been 25 years since Phil's death, but his comedy is still fresh and hilarious. We'll never see another like him.
Nope. There never will be . He was brilliant.
This is Al Franken, not Phil Hartman.
@@rr7firefly 3:05
Dana Carvey was so natural in front of the camera. He played great characters. 😆
Loved church chat. Died laughing every time. The facial expressions are priceless.
Same here!
Weeeeell. Isn't that special?
One of the best "Church Chat"'s ever! Also loved the one with Jim and Tammy Faye.
Dana Carvey playing Church lady really back then was the only reason why I turned Saturday Night Live on back in those days. I was in high school. Dana and Phil were, in my opinion, one of the funniest ones on the show.
I miss the days when SNL was SNL. I stopped watching when it all turned to crap.
I totally agree.that's why I tuned in..I don't find SNL funny any more I loved the church lady skits, Phil Hartman was funny. Those two cracked me up. Missed those days. N.j.
Yes, church chat and 'Toonces the cat who could drive".
That's exactly what i did too. I was about 16 and Church Lady was what got me into SNL. So funny.
Phil Hartman's Ronald Reagan impression is phenomenal.
Thoughts and prayers go to Dana on the recent loss of his son.
Al Franken did an awesome job in this skit!!!
Such a shame. Should be running for president now.
@@bubbercakes528 WORD!!!
Too bad his politics suck
The makeup artist is the real star. Wow! They really made him look different.
It was hard to him to not crack up when Phil Hartman squealed, "I'm a SINNER!"
"Forgive me for interrupting-oh I'm sorry, that's not your strong suit: forgiveness."
I actually felt that deserved a bit more laughter.
My brother and I watched this live when it first aired and were on the floor screaming. Priceless!
Yup
“Little Jimmy out of his pulpit”. 😂😂😂😂
Can't quit laughing!😂
“Didn’t we let something else down like our trousers?” 😂
DEAD🤣💀
"And exactly whose chasm were we sinning in?"
"Debbie" from Dallas
Debbie does church DALLAS
That's the most realistic Jimmy Swaggert impression I have ever seen!
Church Lady was one of the funniest things on SNL.
Gotta give it to Dana Carvey, Al Franken, and Phil Hartman 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 star performers
I'm completely shocked and fascinated by this, I had no idea that Al Franken had a completely different career outside of politics.
You must be very young.
What a great cast
I think everyone waits for the special moment 'she' sayeth, "SATAN!"
Phil was devastatingly spot on.
My two favorite parts: “What else did we let down? Our trousers?” and “Could it be....SATAN?!!!”
Oh, how I miss the late, great Phil Hartman
+daniramc That is one of the writer , not Phil..
+daniramc Sorry the other guy I meant
0:38 Sen. Al Franken
3:00 Phil Hartman
@daniramic, I agree with you!! He was a joy to watch!!
"FIRE BAAAD"
Church lady was one of the greatest characters on SNL. I remember doing church lady impressions when I was 5 years old
Same - only I was 25 😂
The “how convenient” expression was so popular back then.... Thanks Church Lady!
“How convenient!” 😂
my dad let us stay up & watch the church lady on SNL & then tell our mother that we already went to church saturday night so we all could sleep in on sunday's!!
These were the golden days of SNL . I never missed a single one ! So much talent and humor . Bring it back to what it was .
Have fun burning in hell
totally!
they need good writers back on staff
Not exactly. The golden days were 75-80. I remember them well. But this definitely was the 2nd generation of really funny snl. These were probably the best years they had.
I wonder if that will ever happen. The show has had it’s ups and downs but after all politically correct bs people have lost their sense of humor. Cutting down and making of stuff goes both ways. Just not the same anymore. I watched one SNL with a skit with Chevy Chase and The great Richard Pryor. As a country we laughed about everything. Now you can’t say anything. It’s sad because humor is the best medicine.
It's still good. Church Chat came back a few years ago to trash Trump 🤣. Colin Jost and Michael Che are hilarious writers.
"...And didn't we let something else down like our trousers??!!"
Absolute comic genius. BRILLIANT work by all three actors.
Right ??? They were perfect.
Yes, we all miss Phil Hartman, especially everyone from Brantford Ontario Canada, there is a plaque in the downtown honouring Phil's memory as he was a native son! I was proud of his achievements, it hit's home hard as I was born and raised in Brantford as well!
hits
I too miss the late, great Phil Hartman. He was one of those great talents who come along only once in a generation.
One of my favorite Phil Hartman routines was The Anal Retentive Chef.
As much as I love so many of these, I have to say Phil had every talent wrapped into one! I miss him too
Al and Phil were so spot on ! Some of my favorite SNL years.
I have yet to find a character that Dana Carvey played, during his tenure on SNL, that wasn't hilarious. Church Lady is definitely my fav though.
Dana has the mannerisms down truly remarkable one of my favorite characters !!
Al Franken as Pat Robertson is spot on!!!
Al Franken as disgraced ex-Senator is even better.

Could it be.....Satan???!
I just couldn't imagine who lol
He's in a lot of places. A busy guy, I can tell you that. Of course you can make people who believe in God look like morons and laugh at them all night long. But then see if you can find a program where they interview people who've been born into generational satanist families, then see if you can laugh your way throgh that one. It'll probably be easier for you to just switch to another chanel and pretend it's all crazy and not real. But it is real, you better believe it is. I know.
Nah he’s too busy creating more gays to cause chaos(aka me)
Satammmmmm!!!
Take your religitard babble elsewhere people
Phil Harman and Dana Carvey: two legends of comedy.
I agree and this period with these guys was the best SNL of all.
I laughed so hard I had tears coming out of my eyes. I loved SNL from this period
5:00 "Could it beeeeeeeeee *SATAN!* " ROFL
I loved Church Lady's superior dance . My favorite part of Dana Carvey's character 😂

Dana Carley IS BRILLIANT in everything he does !
Just as funny now as it was then! God bless Phil Hartman.
This was one of Franken's funniest characters and a great day to watch it 😅
Hartman NAILED Swaggart
Didn't he ? Wow. Spot on. I miss him
Phil Hartman played this role. Dana Carvey is hilarious.
Phil Hartman was simply brilliant...
@Reformed Christian Teaching Why is HE in eternal Hell?....He was murdered by his wife. She killed him and then committed suicide. If anything, SHE's in eternal Hell.
@Reformed Christian Teaching I'm sorry...how do you know he wasn't reborn?
@Reformed Christian Teaching Ok....this might sound silly, but have you been to Heaven? Have you died, been to Heaven, and came back to say what really happens after death?
@Reformed Christian Teaching The point is, you don't really know, do you? Sure, you believe it. Sure, you have your faith. But until you actually die, you don't really know what will or won't happen, as there's no empirical proof one way or the other. My point is, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, etc have just as much a chance of being right about an afterlife as you do. Their faith is just as strong as yours. Their beliefs are just as strong as yours, but in the final analysis, nobody really knows what's going to happen as a matter of fact. It's impossible to know that, so may I respectfully recommend you don't try and tell any one else what has to happen or not happen for anyone to get to Heaven if it even really exists?
@Reformed Christian Teaching Except, what if Jesus wasn't The Messiah, like the Pharisees claimed, and the Jews actually have it right instead of the Christians?
OR
What if the whole Messiah thing was just a really good made up story and neither the Jews or the Christians have it right?
There is no empirical evidence that any "miracle" written in the Bible ever actually occurred. You have to take it on faith to believe it. Every thing you wrote in your last comment takes faith to believe. None of it can be proven(hence why it's called faith-belief in the unprovable).
So, again, may I respectfully suggest you don't claim to know what's going to happen and what one has to do or not do to make it happen a certain way. If you want to tell people what you BELIEVE will happen...you're perfectly right to do so. But until any of it can be measured, recorded and studied through legitimate scientific methodology, you don't really know what you're claiming to know. You believe it through faith. That's the distinction I'm trying to get you to understand.
Dana was so funny I crack up every time I watch Dana as the Church Lady. RIP Phil Hartman.
I would love to see the Church Lady interview Alex Baldwin's Trump. 😎
It's Alec not Alex.
@@ajourneysaved4311 Oof, I was so confused.
YES YES YES! President Trump, are you PERHAPS SATAN?
I’d LOVE to see an ACTUAL evangelist (Kenneth Copland or Creflo Dollar)... If we’re going to GOP, Trump (not Alec) and Pence WOULD be very interesting!! Actually Bryce Harper & Steve Young would be pretty amusing as LDS members ORRR a couple of missionaries.. NOT to make fun of the LDS Church but to mess with Carvey a bit ;)
JUST said the same thing!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😭 church lady is an American icon
Agreed!
Dana Carvey has outdone himself.
Every saturday night!
And Dana was her name!!!😊
I use a lot of SNL quotes in my day to day life one of them being my all time favorites when someone says or does something dumb... “well isn’t that special”
It was the funniest when the church lady said "Satan!" and her voice echoed. I always watched every episode of SNL from 1974-1989. I remember this skit. Those evangelists made headlines during the 1980s because of their affairs and porn, then there were the Bakers. Billy Graham was about the only one of them who never did any scandals.
The very best of SNL. I loved every comedian on there during that time. They were awesome!

Phil Hartman is enjoying being in Al Franken's face at 6:25! Making Al crack up! :)
Dana Carvey got his character from Lutheran women at church and as a Lutheran myself I’ve seen some of these characters who love to act superior to others they meet. I’m in his generation so this goes back a ways when we were kids, I think. Man is he funny. We need him more now.

Fabulous job of impersonating Pat Robertson, by former SNL cast member/❤Senator Al Franken- and then we have the late great, incomparable Phil Hartman.❤
Odd how Franken fell to the same thing.

ah yeah Al was a good comedian but crappy politician, he went to far Left, and became the corrupt characters he impersonated.
Church Lady is tough :))
I love Dana Carvey! I think "Church Lady" is one of the best skits that I've seen him do!
Al Franken had that smile down pat. I've seen that smile, in person. By chance, I saw Fred Phelps( of the Westboro Baptist Church), in person. He had that smile pasted on his face. It creeeeeped me out.
If SNL wants to fix what is wrong with the show right now, they need to look to bits like this to figure out what went right.
word
Pretty sure SNL is doing just fine with all the endless comedic gold the Trump administration is providing to the comedy world. These skits were just as funny then as all the current political jokes they make, are today.
Nah, this type of humor is bland and doesn't work anymore.
@@eyesonwashington1 the Trump skits were good for a bit but they're getting tiresome. The other comedy on the show now is either depressing or juvenile, too, with a few exceptions. But for the most part, I'm not sure if it's the writing or the delivery but skits these days are lucky to get a good, hearty laugh out of me anymore. That's just in my case, though; you can have a whole other experience from me
Could it be.... SATAN? 😗🤔
She always says “could it be Satan” 😂
Now, why can’t the church lady run for President 2020?
Yes!!!
Because she would win.

Phil Hartman wasn't just funny. He was actually the best actor they ever had in the cast. Could have been a successful straight actor, had he lived
I'm tired of holy rollers. There is a church across from me and the have a restaurant inside, I ordered a hamburger with jalapenos. They refused to serve me. When I asked why they said hot peppers are the work of the devil. I said that was crazy. And the lady said I was playing with fire, and that Satan was following me around. She told me to get out at not come back. What a day that was.
