I really believe you do a service to many with this wise video. 20 years ago, my husband was laid off. We resolved to buy a freezer that we could keep filling as items went on sale. I also began to make sure I had a well stocked pantry, adding shelves in our laundry room for extra food. Relatives who need help with food now and then know they can come to us and "shop" the freezer and pantry. It has been a blessing to us and others during difficult times.

one of my neighbors saved her spagetti sauce jars for me and another friend also saves jars for me. I don't get too many, but its always appreciated since, I took up gardening during the pandemic. I created an editable and medicinal so I am in need of smaller jars for my flowers/roots etc. Living in the city has proven to be a challenge for planting, but I have learned so much and really enjoy it! Thank you for showing "Poverty Prepping" (:- How to Stock up for Tomorrow when You can't afford to eat Today) it is a fabulous book. I see many comments saying they can't afford to prep, they have a hard time buying food for today. We want everyone to be fed, safe and well. One of the tips is you go to the store with your list and one or two of the items is on sale, put the money aside from the sale price from the regular price. Say it is $1.50 in savings, next time you go any of your listed items on sale save the difference from the regular price that you expected to pay anyway. Then you may go and see something on sale that was not on your list, you have the money to purchase that item at the sale price. The change adds up and pretty soon you have breathing room, items put up, if you continue you may not have to worry when you go to the store...priceless. 70 pages, large print, I bought mine for $15 and about $6 for shiping handling and tax. Ms Gregersen lives in Appalachia. I used many of these methods to get out of student debt. I bought this book because I work with low income and just wanted to see what she had to say. I can't say enough good about this book...do not let budget/personal finance scare you. She gives you small items to start with and is encouraging along the way. The only thing hard about managing money is not knowing how simple it is. It is a game changer once you "have it in the wrist". It looks like times may get tough...we want everyone to thrive.

I have been adding an extra item to each week's grocery cart. Store brand rice has been out if stock for past 2 weeks. I just looked at my wish list and picked another item. Last week, I added a bag of egg noodles and this week I picked up a Bearcreek cheesy potato soup mix (on sale).
I find it convenient to have a wish list. Knowing that I will eventually get the items, keeps me from panicking and buying more than I can afford.

I rarely if ever use paper napkins anymore. I use not too special or fancy cloth ones and just throw them in the wash with my other laundry. I feel better about not adding to the landfill. If it's just "us" at the table, spots or stains don't matter at all. The process of even making those paper products is not earth friendly. I encourage others to try it. Save your money and save the planet 😁 Your other preparedness examples are good too, but I just wanted to throw in an idea for another type of economy that can be made.

I hear you on the pasta sauce, but let me tell you I bought the target brand meat sauce for $.99. And it is now my number one staple. It doesn’t really have meat just may be beef broth. But I use it in a quick chili I use it plain I use it with meat sauce it is absolutely divine. Anyone I’ve ever tried the target brand pasta sauceIt’s so good! Give it a try it’s only $.99

Hello Denise! Loving your apron! Yes we should prepare for the worst in all areas of our lives. It would be stressful enough if something terrible would happen and to not worry about the pantries for your families would be one less thing to worry about.

Exactly. There is enough to worry about without having to worry about food. And thank you for the apron. I am loving it too. I just love the vintage look.

Denise, I needed to replenish some of my first aid supplies and found bandages, ointment, peroxide, etc. very sparse. So that’s on my permanent list - what I always look for when I go shopping. Do you keep a permanent list? Love your apron!

Beautiful apron!!! Thank you for this. I'm in the middle of a pantry inventory to make sure I'm stocked on the items we use most. I buy my GF baking flour in bulk and the 25# bag just went up by $25 over the weekend. I've seen fluctuations like this in the past couple years, so I'm hoping it'll go down again, but I'm glad I just got a bag.
    God bless, Ms Jordan!!!

Hi Denise. I have noticed a big difference in our markets as well. I will begin prepping again this weekend as well. I use dried beans a lot and one of my favorites is the 15 beans. That's a pot that goes a long way as well. I reuse certain size jars as well. That's a good tip. The suggestion of setting aside a certain amount just for prepping is a great idea. Thanks for sharing. See you soon.

A great haul and very good advice. Some of the bigger preppers do share a lot of negativity I just unsubscribe and move on because I don’t need to hear the end is near because I have to function until it comes.

  • @JaniceIsLearning
    @JaniceIsLearning 3 года назад

A few cloth napkins and towels may come in handy, so you won’t need to stock up so much on paper napkins and paper towels. I am planning to get a few myself.

Do you have any suggestions on space for our prepper pantry. We are very limited. With 7 kids, a one week supply, let alone 3 month, would take a ton of space. Need creative ideas.

Joanna, just take a look around your house and make a decision as to where things will go. Choose a closet and move the coats and shoes out, or linen closet, put linen elsewhere, or a corner of the dining room or basement and put up a shelf. Start saving foods there. Then, look under the sofa or beds for space. Canned items can be stored neatly under there. You just have to be creative. Take an active look and truly examine your house and see what you could squeeze out.

Move everything non perishable to garage. Baggies trash bags laundry soap. Make room inside. Closets and under the bed . Look for shelving on sale craigslist or garage sales. Must be sturdy!! Add shelving to laundry rooms and closets if possible. Again. Sturdy! Stay organized. Start a cook book. As you find recipes make sure you have ingredients.

We have items in many places in our home. Buy sturdy milk crates. They can be stacked. I believe a long while ago she did a video of out of the way places to store items. I use jars all the time. No cost. The cost of food and household supplies are going up. Also living in Florida we put extra away for hurricane season. Thank you for getting us motivated.

A tip I learned from "dirt patch haven" on YT: take a look at WHAT you store. If you are tight on space, consider tomato paste as a multi-tasker.
I use it as tomato sauce, pasta sauce, enchilada sauce, just add water and spices. Rather than stocking umpteen tomato products, the paste saves so much space. I used to stock crushed, diced, whole, stewed, sauce, rotel, paste, pasta sauce, and enchilada sauce. Now I'm down to paste, stewed, diced, and rotel. 👍🏻
I now have more space. To stock more types of things. I've been doing this for three years. I also limit my pasta to three types -spaghetti, elbows, and rotini.
My guest beds are on metal platform frames. The space underneath the beds is "gold". 🙌🏻 Great for storing larger dry goods I seldom use. Little do my guests know they are sleeping on parts of my extended stores. 😉
