  • Today, we're digging into the rear drivers' door of the the classic Chevy. It seems as if the previous owner ran thru a door opening that was too narrow, as both doors have nearly the same damage. This door was the lesser of the two, so we start here with attempting to pull the dents and fill in the imperfections in preparation for paint.

You can take the door to a PPG paint supplier and they should be able to use a spectrometer on it (sort of scanning it) to duplicate the color very closely. Back in the day they used very small metal and sometimes MICA to get the metallic look and "flop" in the paint. In my opinion, if the metal used is larger or too big, it just doesn't look right...or have the "rich" look that you mentioned.

Thanks! I had thought about doing that once I find a vendor near me. We're in the middle of farmland :)

    I
feel like if anyone wanted to get a 50s classic that's affordable (under $11,000) the styleline is the way to go :D

It's a really pretty car.. It's simple and roomy. I picked up mine for a great price almost a decade ago. Sure, it doesn't have the popularity of the next generation, but for a 'goin to Church' car with the family, it's perfect.

Informative but how can you stand to work standing in water? Do not put metallic in your paint!

It was winter, in MN, and it's the space I have to work until we get concrete poured in our shop. Make do with that I've got. Just thankful the garage is heated.
