Ive been racking my brain hunting for a good grinder as my oxo 40mm grinder has become inconsistant(and my coffe/espresso journey is starting) Somewhwre along the way i stumbled onto the starseeker and found your videos. They were extremely helpful and informative! Especially considering no one else is talking about this griner. I just placed my purchase for the edge. Thank you so much for what you are doing! Wishing you only the best.
I picked one of these up the other day because I had an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, but was pretty skeptical. I mean, I always thought single dose grinders were kind of silly, but for my two espressos a day, it’s actually pretty great. Much less of a mess than using my Rancilio Rocky and it has a tiny footprint. I haven’t had a stepless since I sold my Mazzer mini years ago. It didn’t take me long to dial this in and the shots I’m pulling are very good. I get a lot of static but if I let the grinds sit in the cup for a few seconds instead of immediately dumping into my portafilter and then give it a good tap on the counter it takes care of the static and the cup dispenses the grounds cleanly. Im pre dosing into little mason jars I keep in a cupboard so I don’t have to weight each morning when I make espressos. I don’t mess around with a WDT tool or spraying the beans or any of and it’s totally fine. Seems like a good entry level way into this, we will see how long it lasts.
Thanks a lot. English isn't my mother tongue, but I'm just trying 🙂. I agree the grinder is slow, yet this is one of the key advertised features of it, which should help with creating less fines for filter and more clarity overall in the cup.
Thanks, I'm trying. I hope my English helps me continue. The low RPM is helping the grinder produce very clean cups for both espresso and filter. I like it so much, and I wonder how such quality is coming from a cheap grinder like this one. The body is balanced, not as complex as Niche. You can say it is closer to the DF64v. However, it's a flat burr. The filter is really nice with almost no fines at all, which helps to bring up the notes easily and makes very aromatic cups.
I have both, and niche is 3 times the price. No comparison. But this one is of a great value for the price and the grind quality it provides. Enough that the filter is really amazing, and so much range for espresso too.
have you tried hibrew g5? im still deciding which one should i buy either starseeker edge or hibrew g5 since hibrew g5 also offer 2 grinding speed which are around 400rpm & 500rpm
I actually didn't try it, but the edge runs at 140 rpm. Very slow, which helps alot with consistency and clarity. I think this is why I favor it over the Niche Zero.
Nice video! I have a very very naughty Gaggia pro that doesn’t mess around with grind quality. do you think this one will do the job? Really don’t want to invest $500 to proven grinders…
Thanks, Roman. I actually use it every day, and so far it been delivering excellent results. You can order it and use the code EDGE30 it will give you 30$ off the price during September 🙂
@@morningcoffee1 Thats great, thank you :) not sure if its been updated or if its different model but i can see a 220 rpm version on aliexpress :S it says that the motor is only 48w, is that correct or a typing mistake? seems very low
It's known that slow grinding will produce less fines. This is why a feature like variable RPM started to appear, to ket users play with the speed. I haven't tries the Mignon but I do have a Niche zero and DF64, DF64V and all of them have fast RPM. I still liked the slow grinding more in both espresso and filter. I think that everyone has to try in order to find his best preferences though.
I had a setti 270wi. Plasticy, LOUD grinder. I had alot of problems with the grind settings that kept on getting closer to zero until I couldn't grind finer even after shimming. That's because the burr carrier is plastic. The Edge is waaaaaay better fpr sure.
Yeah, I don't like the plastic body and his loud noise, but it's Baratza, a very well-known and reliable brand, right. Starseeker, I heard of them for just a couple of days... ☕
Nice detailed video on this....If you only drink 99% espresso, and you are not enjoying the medium roast coffees, but you are blaming the Eureka grinder for bad results, and you want to replace it, which grinder would you recommend? I am considering the DF83V. Im consider this because I am SICK of watching all the grinder videos and how much better the 64 is...WAIT, get the Niche....Wait...the Timemore.....wait, get 73..WAIT get bigge 78mmr the flavors keep getting better...WAIT, you want better burrs, spend $150-350 on SSP High Uniformity...WAIT, you should get variable speed.....WAIT, get the DF83V.....So if I get the DF83v I would still need SSP burrs.....Way too much money... .I changed to darker roasts, and I do like them better overall:-) but still looking to upgrade the grinder.
I believe that all grinders are good at a point in time. New models will keep coming, The same crowd for DF83v today will forget it when DF98V comes...etc. Consider your budget and keep in mind that taste is subjective from one person to another.
@@morningcoffee1 yes, taste is subjective, and a bunch of channels are pushing a lot of product based on that. The Eureka is good, but that grind dial is very limiting. You move it just a little, and you are far from where you had it. And I have the older model with doser, although 54mm, I cannot swap these burrs to any others that I know of to get "better" espresso. But the biggest improvement I made for my taste is slightly darker medium roasts, or simply espresso roasts. In the West coast we have good options, so after trying I tend to be able to get the best out of such beans. Maybe I am not doing something, maybe my machine is particularly odd to dial in?. Walla, very frustrating!
@@fhmcoffeethe motor is only something like 80w, with the low rpm speed, it is slow as heck. Waiting for someone to do a teardown video, but I suspect it’s all plastic gears at this price level? (Us$280)

I’m amazed how good the English is while making a presentation! Hope my comment isn’t offensive
The Grinder seems a little slow for me

Great video. This looks similar to Varia s3. I wonder how those 2 compare.
Thanks 🤗, I actually didn't try thw Varia. However, I also believe they might be very similar.
Thank you brother for the review! Bcs of you i bought it, with your code. I am waiting now. It seems better then the Varia VS3. What do you think?
You aew welcome 🙂
I believe both are good, yet the Edge has more magnets, and this makes it more convenient. Plus that it's cheap.
Thanks…Keep up the english videos 😊.. how is the flavour profile of this grinder compared with Niche 0 and df64 for espresso

What are the manufacturers for the hand turn grind distributor and the Porto filter stand?
It's 3d printed, called umikot. I got it as agift feom a friend. And the portafilter stand has no name, there are plenty of them on AliExpress.
Is the niche zero much better and worth the extra money?

I did the edge at 3.5 setting but still not as fine as yours. Is there a reason why
The beans are different, so the settings will be different.

It's called Umikot.

It's called Lelit Mara X. Smart HX with temperature control.

Welcome to the community. This grinder is perfect at that price point. You'll never regret it.
@@morningcoffee1 thank you. looking forward to more videos from your channel
How does it compare to the niche? i'd imagine possibly better due to lower rpm?
I favor it over the Niche, the flavors are way better even though the burr is smaller. I think that's due to the 140 rpm.

Didn't yet compare them, but I will soon post a video about them together.
