  • The wonderful world of marvelous microbes. That is how I have come to view the soil microbes beneath our feet. For too many years, I ignored them and did not think about just how powerful these microbes are. I did not understand the functions they perform for our soils, our farms and ranches, and our ecosystems.
Microbes perform a multitude of amazing things. They harvest minerals from the soil and feed to the plants. They produce biological glues that stick soil particles together and form soil aggregates that facilitate water infiltration and retention. They signal plants to produce objectionable compounds to deter pest insects. They are the plant’s principal immune system against fungal disease. They feed plants on a “just in time basis” and on a 24/7 timetable. Applied fertilizers cannot do any of these things.
When we encourage the explosion of microbes beneath the soil, all life above the soil benefits. Plant species diversity increases. Beneficial insect populations thrive. Bird populations are enhanced. This webinar will introduce you to the hidden world of marvelous microbes. We will explore how tapping the power of microbes grows our productivity, reduces our input costs and enhances our net profits. Additionally, these same microbes fuel phytonutrient richness in the food we eat and significantly improve crop and livestock health.

Excellent video! What materials and books would you recommend to increase knowledge of these subjects?

Check out "Dirt" by David Montgomery. Its always good to begin in the beginning.

Videos with microbiologist Elaine Ingham. It is largely her research over the past half century that has led to these discoveries.
