10:14 The 10 card hand limit only affects Mission cards. Since Imperial Project cards are considered mission cards, they count towards the limit. However, the Rebel Objective cards do not, as they are not mission cards.

Great video, just a couple of things: 12:23 - You can only add a defensive leader, if other leaders in the system belonging to you don't have tactic values (Page 14) 5:38 - Not a mistake per se, but it could be slightly misleading. @@RTFM Just back you in Patreon, hope it helps, thanks for all the good content and keep the good work.
Great review, good use of... something like music ; )... Thank you for helping clarify some rules I did not understand as well as some strategies I had not considered.
Question for anyone who can help (for a person who just got the game and hasn't played yet): I noticed that if you complete an objective card, you gain reputation, moving from 14 to 15 on the time track, but as a rebel, you want the time marker to reach the reputation marker to win. So, why would you ever try to achieve an objective that increases your reputation, if it only moves you further from the time marker?
Completing objectives as the Rebellion actually moves your reputation marker down on the time track, making it closer to the time marker. Sorry if this wasn't made clear in the video.
I'm hyped for Anachrony. I backed the recent expansion kickstarter and grabbed the base game with it since I missed the original one. Looking forward to that.
Hey thanks! I actually let my Patreon backers choose which games I teach. There's a monthly poll that any backer can vote on, and the $3+ tier gets to suggest which games go on that poll.
Great video! Been learning this game inside and out to play with the wife! We had a question about the ion cannon. 16:44 You say “to count from how many they would roll before hitting the five dice maximum.” Can you help me understand your example? 10-8=5? Absolutely phenomenal teach!
Thanks! And yeah, that rule is a little wonky. Because there's a five dice maximum per color, if you come in with a oversized fleet, the ion cannon might not have any effect. Like if you come in with ten dice, you're only rolling five anyway. The ion cannon reduces the ten to eight, but you're still only rolling five. If you come in with a five dice fleet, the ion cannon would bring it down to three though. Does that make sense?
I have a Death Star question. If the Imperials fleet including the Death Star activate a system which happens to be the Rebel Base, does the Combat Round commence immediately or do I have the opportunity to play a "Superlaser" mission card and blow the planet up? If the combat phase initiates, do I get the opportunity to play the Superlaser card at the end of 1 space and 1 ground round? When can I use the Superlaser mission card? In my most recent game the Rebel player ha the opportunity to use the Death Star Plans card after every Space battle round and I was under the impression that I couldn't use the superlaser until the combat was all resolved which was frustrating. Please Help
Frustrating, but unfortunately correct. As the superlaser is a mission card, it is played during the assignments phase. Moving an enormous space station is logistically complicated, so you have to plan ahead if you want to move and attack with it. The Rebels are more nimble, so as long as they have fighters they can keep flying down the Death Star's trench and attempting to destroy it, meaning that having a lot of anti-fighter dice is important to protect your Death Star.
11:23 how does blockade work? Referred in rulebook? Since I could win a space battle which could also destroy ground if before the ground battle, can I only blockade if I got space units with no ground or with ground must always resolve a combat?
If you bring in space units and no ground units to a planet with ground but no space, you won't fight and will immediately blockade it. If you bring ground units with you, they'll have to fight other ground units. I don't think the rulebook uses the term blockade, but the relevant rules can be found in the build units and combat sections of the rules reference.
In terms of strength and goals, absolutely. But as far as each side's mechanics go, there's more in common that it seems at first. At least, in comparison to games like Root or Vast.
8:00 if the empire activates it system into the rebel base the rebel base is always revealed immediately, or with the empire fight the visible forces first? Unless they have to fight the combine forces of visible units and base units? I’m confused because if the visible forces destroyed the space units first there would be no ground to discover the rebel base
Combat happens in both ground and space at the same time, so if the rebel base is revealed, any space units there are added to the space combat. The Empire needs to land ground units to reveal the rebel base though. If they only brought space units, the rebel player doesn't reveal.
Can the player that is opposing my mission oppose with more than one leader? 6:00 In the battles. Does the space battle keep going after the defender rolls his dice? What I mean is do we have to finish combat in space until there is a winner that rules the space? Can the attack stop and we move to the ground battle?
The opposing player can only send one leader, but they can send them whether or not they already have a leader in the space. If you then have multiple leaders with matching symbols in the space, all of them contribute to the opposition. During combat you always do one round of space fighting, then one round of ground (if you have ground units), then you can retreat, but if not, you go back to space.
14:15 if you can only have a max of 5 red, 5 black, 3 green does it make sense to cap your flight a certain size so units that won’t roll don’t just sit and take damage?
It is efficient to play like this if you think you won't take damage, but remember that fights often last more than one round, so having some extra ships can be useful to make sure you're still in fighting shape after taking a few hits.
Great video! You strike a perfect balance of rule clarity, humour and brevity. Any plans to make a similar video of the new edition of Dune by gale force nine in the future?

Just played first game last night. Rules are very unclear around combat. Do you keep drawing new tactic cards before every roll of the dice, or are you stuck with the first card/s you draw for the duration of the whole battle?
Rebel objectives move their reputation marker closer to the time marker, meaning that the Imperial player has less time to find their base before the Rebels win.
At 11:19 you mention that if there are enemy units in a system, you don't get to build anything. Can you please point out where that is in the rule book? I can't seem find it myself.
In the Rules Reference under Build Units it says "A player cannot use a system’s resource icons to build units if (their) opponent has a unit in the system"
Unfortunately I haven't tried it. Didn't even know there was a solo variant until now. Hopefully it's good, but I don't play a lot of solo games, so I wouldn't be a good judge of that.
So quick question, if the whole point of playing the imperials is to find the rebels then why wouldn't I just use my heroes to activate systems and hop around instead of using them to do missions? I'm sure the mission cards are useful but if I'm always building an army based on the planets I control then what's the point of missions?
Well just because you find the rebels doesn't mean you automatically win. You may be building a lot of forces, but the Rebels will try to disrupt that. And if you don't have a strong enough invasion force nearby when you find them, they can just relocate next round and stay in the game.
Yes. As long as you move them all before any combat steps happen, and they're able to leave their system, you can bring as many adjacent units in for a combat.
Afraid not. In the rules reference under Build Units it states that "A player cannot use a system's resource icons to build units if (their) opponent has a unit in the system." So not only can you not deploy units there, they don't provide units for the build queue.
@@grzegorzkapica7930 The number of times I've had that exact thought while writing these tutorial videos and realizing I had been playing incorrectly all along... It's a high number.
@@RTFM Ever played Rune Wars? I play it for 8 years now and still get things wrong. Actually every time I start a game I start with getting some rules straight, because everyone is playing differently :D
And the amount of dice we can roll. If I heard you correctly you said that the max is 5 dice total. But the rules say 5 red and 5 black making me think it’s a total of 10.
Haha, I've been asked a few times about that and I always feel bad because I get a lot of shirts at conventions and I have no idea where to find them elsewhere. This one I got years and years ago and I'm pretty sure isn't being made anymore.
Gaining loyalty is referring to those loyalty markers with the rebel or imperial symbols on them. If the system doesn't have any loyalty, you place one of your own. If it has the opponent's loyalty, you remove the marker. That is, unless it's the empire and they have units on the planet, then you flip it to the subjugated side.
The leader stays in the location until the refresh phase. They can participate in other missions/fights in that system and can potentially be captured.
Agreed, which is why I also made a video teaching Rise of the Empire. As of right now it's exclusively available to my Patreon backers. It'll go live for everyone else in a month.

It was a gift a long time ago, so I don't know exactly where it's from. I think it was a limited edition thing, but I'm not sure. If you look up Mark Ecko star wars shirt, you might be able to find it.
@@gaborreder1649 Nothing happens immediately, you just have ships in a space where they gave ground units. However, you can't build new units in a system that contains enemy units, so it is effectively blockaded.
Part of it is that you only have 5 of each type of dice, so you can't go simultaneously. The real reason though is that it's slightly advantageous to go second. You'll see what they've rolled and so will have just a little bit more information when deciding whether to use specials on cards in hand, or to draw new ones.
If we recruit leaders 4 times in a game, that means we will use not more then 8 action cards ( ...More if we already have same leader in pool ), But ...WHY ARE WE PUTTING ACTION CARD'S WE DON'T CHOSE AT BOTTOM OF THE DRAWING ACTION PILE ? If we are not. going to use them ever again ? Why we are holding action cards deck in front of as after 5. round if we are not going to use them again later in the game ? WHY having those action cards in front for no reason , can't it be more easier to just drop them back at the box after 5. round ? ANYBODY ?

I let my Patreon backers decide what I teach. If you want me to make a video on sword & sorcery, best way to do it is to pledge a few bucks and vote in the next poll.
Your Video is very well done. There is one question I got left though. There are times when you sign absolutely every leader to either a mission or combat. When the enemy attacks you, you normal are allowed to bring in a leader from the HQ. In this case there is no leader left (because they all have been assigned). What happens then?
I say slightly because, despite the difference in strength and objectives, the actions you take are largely the same in terms of mechanics. As opposed to a very asymmetrical game like Vast
4 years later, this was still very helpful. Well done

@@RTFM I need to take a look at my rulebook than and revise my play style.
@@grzegorzkapica7930 I haven't, but it definitely looks like one of those games where it can be hard to hold onto the rules.
And the amount of dice we can roll. If I heard you correctly you said that the max is 5 dice total. But the rules say 5 red and 5 black making me think it’s a total of 10.
It may have been said a little quietly, but five dice of each color is the maximum, so five red and five black makes ten total, yes.
I think you need to start including links to where we can buy the t-shirts you're wearing
Haha, I've been asked a few times about that and I always feel bad because I get a lot of shirts at conventions and I have no idea where to find them elsewhere. This one I got years and years ago and I'm pretty sure isn't being made anymore.
When I finish mission cards sometimes it says you earn 1 loyalty. Can someone tell me what that means?
Gaining loyalty is referring to those loyalty markers with the rebel or imperial symbols on them. If the system doesn't have any loyalty, you place one of your own. If it has the opponent's loyalty, you remove the marker. That is, unless it's the empire and they have units on the planet, then you flip it to the subjugated side.
After you complete mission with a leader does the leader leave the board as well? Or do they sticn around till refresh phase?
The leader stays in the location until the refresh phase. They can participate in other missions/fights in that system and can potentially be captured.
@@RTFM Thank you so much!
Combat is much better with the expansion. It fixes a lot of the slowness of the base game's combat.
Agreed, which is why I also made a video teaching Rise of the Empire. As of right now it's exclusively available to my Patreon backers. It'll go live for everyone else in a month.
If send a leader on a mission, can I use that same leader later to activate that system and move troops?
Nope. When you want to move troops you have to use a leader from your leader pool.
Very good video but just doesn't work for me. I was looking for something to teach me the game so I can play after that. This one gives you general overview and helps you refresh.
Can we please get a new tutorial with the expansion?
Already did. ruclips.net/video/-dKMvLbfn5s/видео.html
Where did you get that shirt?
It was a gift a long time ago, so I don't know exactly where it's from. I think it was a limited edition thing, but I'm not sure. If you look up Mark Ecko star wars shirt, you might be able to find it.
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!!!
What happens if you attack a system with space units, but the system has just ground units?
If you don't have any ground units and they don't have any space units, you just don't have combat.
@@RTFM thx, but in this case what happens with the system?
@@gaborreder1649 Nothing happens immediately, you just have ships in a space where they gave ground units. However, you can't build new units in a system that contains enemy units, so it is effectively blockaded.
I believe that it’s pronounced General Rye-kin
How do you fight if you don't have a leader left?
It's basically the same except that you don't draw any cards at the beginning of combat and you can't retreat.
@@RTFM thanks
This video is a lie it says how to play rebellion in 18 minutes but it took me four hours to finish one game
Brah you seriously remind me of jake gyllenhaal
what's the point of not throwing dice during combat simultaneously? i just can't see the reason why "who goes first" is important =/
Part of it is that you only have 5 of each type of dice, so you can't go simultaneously. The real reason though is that it's slightly advantageous to go second. You'll see what they've rolled and so will have just a little bit more information when deciding whether to use specials on cards in hand, or to draw new ones.
If we recruit leaders 4 times in a game, that means we will use not more then 8 action cards ( ...More if we already have same leader in pool ),
But ...WHY ARE WE PUTTING ACTION CARD'S WE DON'T CHOSE AT BOTTOM OF THE DRAWING ACTION PILE ? If we are not. going to use them ever again ? Why we are holding action cards deck in front of as after 5. round if we are not going to use them again later in the game ? WHY having those action cards in front for no reason , can't it be more easier to just drop them back at the box after 5. round ? ANYBODY ?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wow. Great!....
Expaaaaaaansion.
Thanks! I actually did make a Rise of the Empire video, and it's currently available for my Patreon backers to watch right now! It will go live for everyone else in a month.
Reaaally.... to patreon!
Great.What about sword & sorcery? :D
I let my Patreon backers decide what I teach. If you want me to make a video on sword & sorcery, best way to do it is to pledge a few bucks and vote in the next poll.
Cool
I don’t think in your hand of 10 it includes both objective and mission cards they are separate
That's correct. There's a note in the description fixing that and one other thing.
This video is false advertisement. After watching it I can't play Rebellion in 18 minutes!!!
Nice tutorial though I will admit I had to play your video at .75x speed because you do talk a bit fast at times.
Yeah, sorry about that. I'm working on it.
Your Video is very well done. There is one question I got left though.
There are times when you sign absolutely every leader to either a mission or combat. When the enemy attacks you, you normal are allowed to bring in a leader from the HQ. In this case there is no leader left (because they all have been assigned). What happens then?
You can still have combat without a leader, but you won't draw any tactic cards and you can't retreat from the battle.
This is very similar to an old video ga.e of the same name
Yeah, I've never played that one, but it does have a similar aesthetic.
I would recommend using more interesting camera angles
"Slightly" asymmetrical?
I say slightly because, despite the difference in strength and objectives, the actions you take are largely the same in terms of mechanics. As opposed to a very asymmetrical game like Vast
