So what's so special about a sumo deadlift? Does it use different muscles?
T J both deadlifts hit the same muscle groups but where they’re different (aside from the stance and range of motion) is the emphasis on certain muscles. Sumo uses more leg drive through the abductors and quads during the first portion of the lift, while conventional loads more hamstring and lower back.

the owner of the gym was good at explaining deadlift, I feel like there is a great risk of injury at 2x bodyweight if it's done wrong
integral merr he had a dirtier bigger lift in him, I think they were pretty conservative
Even when doing less. I weigh 85-86 kilos and can at most deadlift 150 kg. So not even twice my body weight. But its already enough to get injured. Thats why I never push to the absolute limit without a friend watching my form.
If done wrong, there's risk of injury from picking up a bag of flour.
You forget magnus is already a strong dude, he's gonna be fine.

I love how open Magnus is to new things. He clearly hates deadlifting yet powers through n manages a double Bodyweight sumo on his first day of deadlifting. Guys a genuine god.

For starting out as a random dude at a gym convinced to do something I love that Magnus has now become somewhat of a staple to the channel.. He meshes very well with the two of you adding that bit more to the channel you would definitely miss if he wasn't there anymore. Besides that It gives Tom someone else to harass other than Juji, lol

One of the ways I learned to keep back tension in my sumo deadlift was to actively try to bend the bar with my hands. Of course you wont actually bend it, but actively trying to bend it has allowed me to flex my lats thru the lift. Also, learning how to properly hinge my hips was a huge point of emphasis for me and helped me reach my current PR of 475.
These collabs are a real good mix. I love lifting and I love climbing so I might be bias here
I have been watching videos with a lot of different athletes you have had on your channel. Couple things I have noticed that stands out to me. 1. You are all very competitive by nature. 2. You all take direction very well.
What's the point of Ninja Warrior inviting you guys as press and then not letting you film on the first day?
because the course is a secret and they cant reveal it until after the comp has been filmed otherwise the competitors might see it and gain an advantage.
The cue you're missing was, "take out the slack, shoulders back, crush your armpits, lift"
This will keep new lifters from allowing their arms (and thus, their upperback) from floating from front to rear. Also lowers the amount of travel in all directions for the bar. Additionally, by taking out the initial slack in the bar, you minimize risk of injuries (especially for jerky lifters like magnus).

I really love the side of Magnus that Tom manages to bring out. At first he seemed quite "stiff" and maybe too serious, but seeing Magnus just smile at Tom when they interact and watching Magnus say "I daydream about being on a beach with you" to tom in one of the other videos is just awesome.

I can dead lift 3x my body weight with no supplements. People rely to much on that stuff. Just keep your diest clesn is all you need. I also stopped wearing shoes during my workouts years ago. Much better squating and deadlifting without shoes.

I just fell by your channel one day as I was researching other options for strength training. I thought "well that's nice, but I don't know why I'd be looking at bodybuilding stuff". Then time has gone by and you guys have done all kinds of great stuff and I find videos being recommended to me more and more often. So I guess I'll just have to throw in the towel and subscribe. I'm watching every video that comes out now either way, so it would be dumb not to give you guys the credit.

Is deadlift like...a half crimp? A one arm pull up?
"Que" to stop jerking the bar is to put tension on the bar first, then slowly add more power to lift it, instead of just picking it up with no preparation. I think this wording makes sense to people who have never done it before and they should naturally get a feel for it with a little practice. :)

It took me ages to learn to deadlift properly. With all the manual handling I’ve been taught working in warehouses when I was younger it went against everything I’ve always knew about lifting things lol.
I feel like Magnus' form would have improved a lot if they'd told him to focus on the upper body in the set-up, then focus on the leg drive in the lift.
