Thank you so much for the panel. I’m a 4/5 w. The sense of not belonging has been intense all my life. I’ve chalked it up to the fact that I was in the incubator for 5 weeks. Wasn’t visited by my mom or even named. So I’ve done plenty of work to heal that trauma. And learning about the enneagram helps me see that this emptiness is just a part of me. I’ve had a deep spiritual path since I was 18yrs old and I make meaning from believing this deep pain of not belonging helps create compassion. And I gotta say lately I’ve been challenged with feeling deeply discouraged with creating community and deeper friendships. Also struggle with wanting to offer anything to the world cuz it just didn’t feel original enough. Step by step. Being in nature and having pets helps tenderly.
Thanks for sharing your struggle, @karenslaughing! 🙏 As your life shows, the suffering of Type 4s often provides valuable fuel for creativity and transformation. Inspiring to hear how you've been able to cultivate greater compassion by turning towards your pain! Not everyone is able to plunge the depths within friendships and communities that Type 4s and Type 5s yearn for, indeed. Perhaps growth and development for Type 4s also includes learning to appreciate the depth within the superficial. Wishing you all the best! 🍀
I am a 4 and an artist and psychologist and I relate very much to all you are saying, and to Jolene, just to say, ' artists' are always pressured to create something unique, it goes with the territory. No artist would ever be an artist and proudly say my work is 'very ordinary!'
And a show off! J/k sorry, I had to tattle on myself because that really was my initial reaction to your being both artist and psychologist which is what I thought I was gonna be, so in true 4.nature, I admit my envy, had a chuckle thinking about it and wanted to share i with you because, only another for could find this humorous. winks 😅
Thank you Nomali. You're one of the best enneagram teachers out there. What i've been trying to understand for yeards through youtube teachers and books you've explained brilliantly in 14 minutes. Thanks. Now i know i'm a social 4.
If your 1st instint is preservation, your 2nd instint is never sexual. It goes in order preservation/social/sexual & around from the beginning. U can act on 3rd instint, one cause u still have it, also because u can be acting pretty extreme unconsciously, or u might make the conscious choice to use ur 3rd instint because u consciously decide u want to use it sometime somewhere.
Thanks for watching, @LeiraHdezP! 🙏 Our understanding is that, for many Enneagram teachers, such as Beatrice Chestnut, Susan Rhodes and Claudio Naranjo, the instinctual drives (Self-Preservation/Sexual (one-to-one)/Social) can be stacked in any order. What is your understanding? And from which teachers have you gained your insights? Be well! 🍀
It's like they are all telling my story. We look nothing alike and are from very different places but we are so similar. I am a self preservation /sexual/social 4 with an INFP-turbulent MBTI type.
Thanks for watching, @MeliMeli66! 🙏 That's one of the beautiful insights of personality type systems, indeed, that many of us share similar patterns of behavior, while at the same time being entirely unique individuals! Perhaps this is why many people, when studying typologies, feel an increase in compassion and understanding, both towards themselves and others. Be well! 🍀
Thanks for sharing your question, @donagh1954! 🙏 There's certainly a chance Pablo Picasso might have been a sexual Type 4. As you perhaps know, Type 4, 6 and 8 belong to what is called the emotional intensity triad within the harmonics teaching. Picasso's art wasn't particularly cheerful and his works, such as Guernica, are profoundly emotional. Also, Picasso wasn't afraid to create a profoundly unique type of art. What are your thoughts? Be well! 🍀
Sorry to hear, @loriwilde3977. From an Enneagram personality type perspective, we might say that one of the main challenges of Type 4 is to balance the suffering of being highly sensitive with a sense of gratitude for being alive, despite the subjectively experienced suffering. What's your perspective on this? Be well! 🍀
So, I’m curious how many severe sexual type 4 nasties also have the demon star, left eye of Medusas head *Algol*as well as Royal star watcher of the West Antares , heart of the scorpion, Scorpio moon, stellia, and Pluto mars Uranus conjunctions. Also Gate 34 in human design specifically. There’s tons of others but these 2 fixed stars and Scorpionic themed planet/houses. I bet there’s a lot of overlay
I don't know if I am a 4? The only person that can "save me from me"- is me . Envy is not a concept I can accept the existence of. My head hurts... Again . Already. Peace out frodo.
Thanks for sharing, @patrickconnolly2654! 🙏 Perhaps it's useful to mention that none of the types fit any human being precisely. After all, the Enneagram typology is a model of reality and not reality itself. Which other types resonate with you as well? Have a lovely day! 🍀
i feel very sure that every single one of these "4s" are actually 9s. first, tests are based on self-reporting and thus deeply unreliable. 9s are a lot more creative, emotional, and sensitive than most people assign to them - the reason they seek balance and peace is because they feel so overwhelmed and imbalanced by others and their own powerful inner states. the thing being mistaken as "self-pres 4s not voicing their suffering" is just 9. 4s are reactive types, and even self-pres 4s are showing their reactivity in their image. 9s have a lot of turmoil but they don't reveal it so they don't harm or overwhelm others. also, notice all the emphasis on 'fitting in', and talking about dark feelings with a smile on their face. Sloth is a sense of sadness, a kind of self-forgetting, so it is sad. Envy isn't wanting what others have (just like sloth isn't laziness, lust isn't sexual desire, avarice isn't greed), it's chronic frustration and disappointment, a rejecting of outside things. That 'sharpness' just isn't present in any of the speakers. 4s LIKE to be different from others - their image is showing people how their inner self is "inaccessible" to others, it's saying "i'm not like you". To be too similar to others, to feel too accepted or too much belonging is a threat to the 4s sense of uniqueness. also, 4s are not nearly this "feeling everything", they're actually very self-limiting and self-narrowing. www.johnluckovich.com/articles/the-confusion-of-type-nine-amp-type-four-or-nota4 heres a long article on the topic.
